I see your point..I once told someone at work, a really lovely woman actually, who turned to me and said "oh well Belinda, so long as you don't let it rule your life"..I mean hello, this is a woman with three healthy children of her own, falls pregnant at the drop of a hat, and she tells me basically just to overlook what's happening...GRRRRRRRR. I find it hard to know who to tell, and then hard to predict how they'll respond..
Josie, have never heard of the pineapple connection, but would be keen for further information if you come across any, Heather might be a help as well..I also had a general anaesthetic for egg collection, so no pain at all during the procedure. I of course (my luck) developed OHSS and had a vessel perforated during egg pick up which meant not only the procedure had to be stopped, leaving lots of lovely eggies inside, I then had internal bleeding and "free fluid" in my pelvis. I was admitted to hospital and put on morphine, the pain was horrendous..BUT, this was a fairly extreme example, I know of lots of other women who have no such trouble..

Jo, sounds like you're doing really well with the meds so far. I agree with Heather's suggestion about the small cooler bag (perhaps you could even carry it on as hand luggage).
I hadn't heard about pineapple juice either - but it can't hurt trying! I'd also read about herbal teas that are supposed to be good for conception: red clover flower, raspberry leaf, yarrow and stinging nettle. I've got lots of little left over boxes of them now (gave up seriously using them about 6 months ago!). I read in our IVF booklet that you're meant to stop the herbal remedies once you're on the program as it can interfere with the meds.
Belinda, thanks for the tips on general care. Actually I was talking to my girlfriend in Tassie last night and she told me a great story. She had a colleague who went through two IVF cycles and several unsuccessful FET transfers. This lady had two embies remaining, and she and her partner decided this would be their last attempt. Following the final FET she took two weeks off work, seriously kept her feet up (including lying with her legs in the air for several hours after she got home from the clinic), and didn't do anything strenuous for the entire fortnight. It worked, and she now has twin boys. My friend was telling me that the lady was convinced it was the difference in her own post-transfer routine that made it work this last time. And I guess if you're going through all the hassle of the process, it's worth giving it every best shot.
Have any of you seen the movie Maybe Baby? It's based on the Ben Elton book Inconceivable (based on his & his wife's own experiences with IVF). DH and I saw it a couple of years ago and are thinking about getting it out again. It's both funny and moving and worth a look if you're in the mood.

That's a lovely story re. the twins outcome! I'm very much a believer in the taking care of yourself school of thought after embie transfer, poor DH, I even ban sex during the 2ww..poor love!!

My DH is so careful and anxious about these things, I think he'll be the one enforcing any spells of abstinence in our household! And actually, after 2 years of ttc naturally and all the obsessing about dates that involves, it'll be kind of nice to not HAVE to do it for a while!

Ha! Sadly I'm not athletic enough to do handstands, but I certainly did used to prop my legs up above the bedhead and against the wall for half an hour afterwards. Not that it made any difference!!! But I guess at least we have the satisfaction of knowing we gave all those old wives' tales a go...

No handstands for me either. At my age I am likely to break a hip or something! Gosh Belinda, what a horrible time you had. I didn't realise. That makes Annie Charlotte even more precious (if that's possible!)
Glad the appointment went well Tiger. Your doc sounds like a doll. It is unusual to see a clinic that is prepared to work around your timetable and not the other way around.

Hello to you all,
I hope you don't mind me joining this forum. I am a "hope to be grandmother" one of these days. My daughter doesn't have a computer/internet, so I have been doing a bit of a surfing around now and again over the last few months.
Donna had a cancelled cycle last December (not enough eggs). This month she has started again This time needles instead of nasal spray. she started on the next bit (not sure what it is called)yesterday with almost double the dose from last time. She is feeling really sick, headaches,etc, etc, etc, with this higher dose.
One person at her clinic told her not to take nurofen for pain- now another one has told her it is OK, except when she has the trigger needle.
What are your thoughts?
They go back Friday 13 May to have the eggs checked.
By the way we are in Melbourne - Donna is attending the clinic in Ballarat.
I look forward to reading your posts.

My hospital says that the only pain relief that can be taken is paracetamol .. no ibuprofen, codydramol, aspirin (except baby aspirin) etc ..

It is 3:28am and I am awake..... and yes you guessed it - I cannot go back to sleep. I went to bed around 12 midnight - but my brain just decided to switch on and wake me up at 3am. And my tummy is really bloated, very uncomfortable.
Handstand? I have never done that before.....
With regards to pain management - I used to be on 6 neurofens a day for my endo pain (on a really really bad day) but I had to stop that because I heard too much of it damages the lining of the stomach and causes bad stomach ulcers. Side affects of medications are scary but quality of life is also very important ......

Blocked tubes due to endometriosis.
Gosh, I feel a bit of a freaky circus type performer now what with my handstand revelations..Doesn't sound like I'm alone though!..Other things I did when ttc; looked at cervical mucous (gross), checking whether it was tacky or sticky to let me know whether I was at a fertile stage in my cycle or not (usually not), drank copious amounts of herbal concoctions (double gross), accupuncture which was actually very relaxing and I believe quite helpful and some counselling. The counselling was actually very helpful as well.

There is also a pharmacy phone helpline in Australia (I have previously looked them up in the front of the Telstra white pages), it is the cost of a local call and they will answer questions regarding medication at no cost.
