oh, fishing... we didn't make it - the weather got in a way!!!! Our last chance is on very early Saturday morning. Aftre this weekend we are back in Japan.......... not looking forward to it at all. Ah, and your mucous fondling and herbal concoctions - I think everyone's done those!!

Ladies, great discussion on the pain killers by the way, very very educational, thank you. I guess I must get used to only taking paracetamol???

Ahh, hope the weather is kinder to you tomorrow, enjoy it while it lasts I say.When I was pregnant with Annie I got motion sickness so badly that I threw up all the way over the Hayman Island from Hamilton Island (about an hour and a half trip) for what was supposed to be a romantic pre-baby arrival getaway..So once you are "with child" you may have to review your recreational pursuits!!
Mucous fondling..now doesn't that bring back memories!!!, pleased I'm not alone in this department (makes me feel slightly less freakish!!)

Hi everyone,

Just wanted to add my welcome and hellos to Barbara, & all the gals on the other side of the globe.

I picked up my meds from the clinic this morning and had my first blood test to see if I'm ready to start sniffing yet. Hope so, as it'd be nice to start on the weekend.

Do most of you girls give yourself the injections, or is it easier if your partner does it? I'm less squeamish than DH, so will probably do it myself!

So glad it's Friday - I'm really looking forward to a bit of a sleep-in tomorrow (well, for as long as our puppy lets us).

Re giving injections. On Donna's first cycle her husband did it every morning. but he has now changed jobs and often won't be home in the morning. donna had to bite the bullet this week and do it herself. She surprised herself and found it fairly easy.

Hi Barbara, welcome to both you and Donna! Do you live in Ballarat too? It is such a beautiful city, especially at this time of the year. I hope Donna is feeling ok with all of the medication.

Tiger - great to hear that the doctor has been so flexible and that you have everything you need to get you started - the time will fly until August, you will be amazed at how quickly it goes.

Heather - re pineapple juice - just read about it as a throwaway line in a newspaper last weekend, they did a big article about the fed govt budget proposals and somehoe pineapple juice was mentioned in there (ha - not subsidised, I'm sure!!!)

Sniffing if going along fine, took last contraceptive pill today, and lined up for a blood test next Wednesday morning, which will let us know if we start injecting that day, EC should be sometime in the last week of May - it's good having something to do each day - I can only imagine how frustrating the 2ww will be...

Barbara, Your daughter Donna is braver than me! I don't think I could inject myself and we even use a pen-injector so it is 'easier' - my DH does them for me and he loves it

Deanne, good luck with the sniffing, hope you can start this weekend as you plan.

Well its an overcast Saturday here in (sunny?) Queensland. This thread has been a real success, so thanks to the great aussie gals that set it up!, it's my first port of call as soon as I get on the site.

Josie Mack, good luck for starting the IVF sniffing, will all go swimmingly I'm sure. Yep, the2ww sucks big time, I always found it quite stressful, and both times got quite confused about pregnancy symptoms versus those for af. I had positive pregnancy results both times, first one ended in miscarriage unfortunately, and then the next one resulted in the beautiful Annie (Miss Boo). I would have to say that both times I was utterly convinced that I was getting af, I had all of my tell tale signs, pimples, sorry tummy, bloating etc, and then it wasn't to be! I have a real tendency to over-analyse absolutely every sign and twinge during the 2ww as well, so I certainly don't make it easier on myself!

Barbara, that's lovely that you have printed off our replies for your daughter, we would welcome her with open arms if she does venture into the site!

Deanne, Johnie (DH) gave me the injections, but be probably made this decision because it helped him to feel part of the whole process. I think (think?) I would have been OK about self-injecting, but he did such a good job it was all OK. My only hint for the injections is that yes you need to keep the drug in the fridge, but I found the pain was significantly reduced if you let it come up a few degrees before injecting. My doctor was fine with this and actually recommended it from a tolerance perspective, might be worth seeing what your own specialist recommends though.

Hi everyone!

Heather - I don't know what it is about my German dogs!!!! Wow, a dog groomer - hard work I would imagine (Molly is a pain in the butt when we try and groom her), but a great sounding business.

In regards to reality tv - I LOVE IT I love them all! I love The Apprentice, Average Joe, The Bachelor, American Idol, Big Brother etc etc..... We are even having friends over tomorrow night for a Big Brother opening night party (is that wierd?????!!!!!)

I can't remember who was asking about EC pain, but I would not worry too much about it. I had lots of pain, but a lot of women get very minimal. I think the reason I found the pain so bad, was because I was not expecting it (I was worried something was wrong). If you are prepared for some pain, then I don't think it will be too bad for you.

Dh and I are going on a lovely holiday in August. I can't wait. We were talking about things, and decided that a holiday is what we both need (even though we had a holiday in Feb - but that was pre-IVF!). I am also turning the big 30 in August, so the holiday will also be for my birthday. I am not looking forward to turning 30, simply because I always thought I would be a mother by 30 - that goal had gone out the window!!!! We are going to Broome to stay at Cable Beach Resort. Has anyone been there? If so, what is it like?

I've never been over the WA, but it is a place I would love to visit..Margaret River make some fantatsic red wines..how sad is that, all I know about the place is their alcoholic beverages!!

And no, having a BB5 launch party is so not wierd, wished I lived near you so I could come along..I just hear the BB theme music and get sooooo excited, I even get goose bumps when those Grettyl ads come on with her talking about the new series (I think she's fab!!). I read in the paper today some rumours re. the new series. There were suggestions of a 2 lane bowling alley in the house, indentical twins who will be swapped in the house week about, a penthouse style room and spa etc to encourage raunchy behaviour and a Paris Hilton intrusion (but then I reckon she's always an intrusion!!)..sooo looking forward to tomorrow night..Enjoy!

How fantastic would it be if Paris Hilton was the intruder. I know what you mean about the theme music - it sends me into a mad frenzy!!!!! A guy I work auditioned & made it down to about the last 50. I was sooo hoping he would get in. He has an interesting story - he used to be gay, but is now married with 3 kids! He is really funny & would have been good to watch. Bring on tomorrow night! It will be a good distraction from treatment.

I too love reality TV. I watched an Osbournes marathon last night!! Not too sure if these people experience or even recognise much reality though.

Deanne, I did the injections myself. The needle is so tiny that you really don't feel it. This was my favourite part of the treatment....sounds a bit weird but I really hated the sniffing and I think I was excited by this stage as it meant the treatment was nearly over. I also found that the FSH made me really mellow. I just wanted to hug everybody which is strange as I am not a touchy feely type person...it was a nice feeling though. Did you get the ok to start sniffing? I hope so and I hope it is going really well.

MissMolly, I have never been to Broome but would love to go. My in-laws went several years ago and stayed at the cable beach club. They loved it but suggested that bug spray wouldn't go astray. The cabins did not have insect screens. That said, it was a while ago so this has probably been remedied. I have been to the southern parts of the state....lots of rellies there....and loved the place. Can't wait to go again.

Jo, everything seems to be going really well for you. I hope the blood test gives you the ok to start injecting. Wow, not long to go now! How exciting.

Tiger, sorry about the fishing trip. Did you manage to get out yesterday? Enjoy your final hours in Oz and I hope you have a great trip back to Japan.

Barbara, infertility treatment can be so isolating and very emotional. I too find myself crying at some of the posts....the women here are so supportive and I am constantly amazed by that. HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY to you too. Donna is lucky to have a mum like you. I hope Donna's injecting is going ok...she must also be getting close to EC! Yay!

Hope you are all enjoying your weekend. Sun is shining here and I still have all the doors and windows open. I hate it when I have to close them and drag the heater out....hopefully it will be a short winter and I won't have to keep them closed for long.

Well, Monday morning is here, Annie was six months yesterday, so today we're off for our six month vaccinations..Is not a fun experience, she cries, so do I, and then my breasts leak in sympathy!!..I tell myself though that we are lucky to have access to vaccinations, it would be much worse if she actually got sick!

Has everyone seen in todays paper that Costello has announced a reversal of the IVF decision, there will be not cut to IVF Medicare rebate, not in this budget anyway. Is a huge victory, and a credit to the power of women writing letters, sending E-Mails and basically rallying together to fight this ridiculous discriminatory call..Ahh, I should get off my soap box now I reckon!!!..Unfortunately Costello has also said that he cannot rule out this decision being made in the future, but that a medical reference committee will be set up (with representatives hand picked by the Howard Government of course!) to review IVF success rates and make future recommendations regarding medicare funding..So there you go!

Miss Molly, how did your BB5 party go last night??..I felt a bit let down to by honest, none of the housemates warm hugely to me..I don't mind Michael (nose ring fellow) and at this very early stage he's my tip to take it out..Looks like the producers are just aiming for a huge uncut type version this year, all the contestants are single bar one, and of course all terribly glamorous. I also liked Tim and Angela, but not sure how they'll fit into the house given that they seem actually quite intelligent, thoughtful and mature, completely unlike the rest of them!

Hope you had a great weekend, and Belinda and Barbara a great Mother's Day.

Belinda, I hope that Annie's vaccinations go ok today. It is tough for the little ones, and I think it might be even harder for the parents. Now I know I can't compare my puppy to your darling daughter(!) but we had a somewhat similar experience on Saturday taking Yoshi to the vet for his final shot. He likes going to the clinic as the staff all fuss over him, but this shot seemed to hurt him quite a bit, and he was out of sorts for the next 24 hours. But he's all fine now and back to his playful self, much to the relief of his anxious parents

I'm so happy about the govt cancelling the plans to cut IVF funding. You're right Belinda, it's a real credit to everyone who came out and lobbied for the change. Hopefully it won't just be a temporary reprieve...

I started sniffing the Synargel on Saturday. I've never taken a nasal spray of any sort before and felt pretty stupid as the first couple of doses I took just sort of trickled out (I did the priming bit to start with, but think I was just too tentative with the spray). I had to get DH to do one for me and now I've finally got the knack. So goodness knows how I'll go with self-injecting!! Anyway, so far I'm feeling fine.

We have two beautiful dogs, Holly is a blenheim cavaleir king charles spaniel (v. high maintenance!) and Barney is a 13 year old pound puppy (variety of breeds). They are such fabulous dogs, and are great company..They don't cope at all well with needles and are always out of sorts for a couple of days after their annual vaccinations. Annie coped OK, she is in her cot now, sound asleep..I think its as hard on Johnie and I as it is on her!!

Re. the nasal spray, I lost a few early attemots 'cause I don't think I was vigorous enough with the spray action..you'll get the hang of it!!
