Is anyone considering donor sperm?

Post by StefScott »

Hi. I haven't been on the boards in awhile. DH and I had our 1st FET in April. Unfortunately, it was a BFN. We still have seven embies waiting for us, but they are not the higher quality ones, because the two best ones did not thaw well so we used up the 4 good ones. I am trying to stay optimistic, but I feel like our chances are just slipping away. We will not be able to afford another round of IVF (this has put us into a deprssing level of debt that I do my best to try not to think about). I was wondering if anyone has/is considering donor sperm if it comes to that? DH has expressed negative feelings about this idea. He has three children from an earlier marriage, so I don't think it is such an issue for him, but I can't imagine not having a child of my own. Since our problem is male factor, I would imagine I would be able to get pregnant with IUI and donor sperm. DH just hasn't been receptive to the idea. I just don't understand why, considering he has talked about adoption. How would this be any different than adopting, as far as it being his biological child? Do you think it is just a male ego thing about me being pregnant with some other guy's baby? I just really need to understand this. Anyway, any thoughts you have would be greatly appreciated. Sorry this turned out so long!

Hello Stephanie!

I cannot tell you how glad I am to have read your post... in a very good way...

I'm Rita, we haven't got any sperm at all and we're just figuring out what to do next.

I can totally relate to what you said - I too am considering DI but feeling DH is not particularly eager although he's ok about adoption.

The first time the doctor suggested it i didn't like the idea but couldn't dismiss it either so I'm afraid we'll have some problems lying ahead for us...

I'm in the middle of a break and i'll get to you soon! Good to have found you!

Hi Rita! Thanks for the response. I am glad to know I am not the only one dealing with this. It just doesn't make sense to me. Of course, I would like for us to have a child biologically from both of us (and hope that ends up being the case), but if it comes down to it, I would hate to have to give up on getting pregnant, when the option is available and relatively inexpensive. Hopefully, if it comes to that, DH will begin to see how important it is to me and change his mind. I'm not too optimistic about that happening, but, hey, he also was against IVF before we found out we had no other option to have a child together. Maybe he will be the same with this!

Anyway, hope things work out for all of us in the end! Let me know what's going on when you get a chance!
