iui question?

Post by NickiMark »

I am wondering if it's ok to have sex during the cycle of iui?

I will tell you am worried as we are using a donor and if we have sex after insemination, I am worried that dh's semen (he doesn't have sperm only semen) will drown the sperm from the donor, or react with it to prevent a success.

Can you see my delemma, of course I dont want to be with out sex as I think during this time we need to have lots of quality closeness but equally I am worried about the mix of dh's semen with the donor's sperm.

Nicola

I wish I knew the answer to that - have you tried a Google search on Donor IUI to see if there are any pages on what to do and not to do :?:

Other than that the only thing I can offer is maybe talking to the hospital you're going through - not an easy question to ask I know, but one I feel they will have heard before :!:

I hope you get some answers quickly sweetie - other than that how are you doing?

Yes I have searched

Apparently it's said orgasm helps to make to sperm travel upwards, but what if the semen from dh and donor sperm mix and cause a reaction?

that's a tough one... Guess Lp is right there, you'll need to ask the hopsital. Probably they'll say no sex for a couple of days and then all go... I'm just guessing here, i really don't know

when we did our IUI we had sex with condoms - but that was before the actual sperm insertion, although we were not using DSperm. We did ask our clinic and the nurses were very earthy about it - they said it was good for me to relax

we had never used condoms as dh had a vasectomy and then after the reversal we were ttc...dh bought the wrong ones, too small  and they split    was a hell of a giggle but not much satisfying sex I must say

Dont forget they put the donor sperm right into your womb and if dh comes, his ejaculate will stay in your canal and probably not get through the cervix, I would have thought dilution wouldn't be an issue but maybe you are right about unknown interactions

I'd go for the condoms. have lots of orgasms and just make sure the condoms are big enough

Dont know about this subject but condoms have spermicide on them that kill sperm so could some not get in and kill the sperm?
I think I'd just ask clinic!
