Hi All!
Hope everyone is doing okay. We're doing well. Bought some more maternity clothes yesterday. It seemed like a must. I went thru most of my winter and summer clothes (spring cleaning of sorts), and found that precious few fit the way they should. Normally you put the winter clothes away and bring out the summer. Not the case this year. My closet was left rather empty when I was through. Figured I might as well buy some now before I get totally frustrated.

I'm pretty used to the baby moving around a good bit now. I can see how women get nervous when they go too long without feeling a kick. I find myself making mental notes. She seems to start moving around at about 11-12 noon in the am and then 11-midnight in the pm. I laughed and told DH that she's going to be just like him (a night owl). I can just picture the two of them hanging out late at night watching tv while I'm fast asleep =)

Sue ... hope you're nuchal went well yesterday. As for travel and the socks, I didn't have a pair. I just walked around a bit on the plane and did circle exercises with my ankles while seated. Sounds like the socks would be a good way to go. To answer your other question, I was super careful not to get any sun. My doctor warned me that sun could cause any skin discolorations (due to pregnancy hormones) to darken, or could cause some to appear for the first time. I haven't had any skin issues so far, and I really want to avoid it if possible. Therefore, I just used sunscreen the whole time.

Edi ... good luck this week with your scan. I'm anxious to see if you and DH can resist the sex question =) It would be great if one of us had a surprise in the end!

Love ya,
Kelly

Hi Girls,
Wendy - congrats on your boy, a little brother for Benjamin that's so sweet.
Kelly - Congrats on your girl. With all that kicking going on, sounds like she's going to be an international soccer star!

Had 20 week scan this morning. It was great. We had to go back and forth a couple of times (fill bladder/empty bladder/walk around the building for 10 mins) coz they couldn't see baby's heart. But eventually they got everything they needed for measurements and it all looks perfectly normal. We were thrilled. Not having had any of the nuchal tests etc we were both a bit anxious about today. But as far as they could tell, everything looks good.

So now I'm back at my desk with my 3 photos and unable to do a tap of work. But who cares today.
And we DIDN'T ask about the sex. Don't ask me how in the end I agreed to that
So no blue or pink for us for the next six months

I went to my first antenatal yoga class last night. have to say that the yoga was nothing special (I'm glad I've kept up my ordinary yoga class) but I thought that the practical advice and the sharing of experience with the other women there was fantastic. I think particularly for us IVF ladies who worry about everything it's brilliant to hear what others who are months ahead are doing and what is working for them.

Sue - i spent more time at the back of the plane doing ankle, shoulder, head and neck exercises than i did sitting. I drank loads of water (which ensures that you do lots of walking to the back of the plane!) and I brought my own fruit to nibble on during the flight. The best part about being pregnant and flying is that because you take such good care of yourself, jetlag is a breeze.
I'm afraid I don't have any advice on the sunbathing front, I'm more of a sunscreen and freckles type of person so have to defer to others on that front.

Kelly - I will be following suit this weekend and buying MORE maternity clothes. Now even my gym gear is too tight. I also had to do a clear out of my wardrobe. It was getting totally depressing looking at a wardrobe full of clothes none of which fitted. So I banished the whole lot to the attic. Now I have four things hanging up but at least they all fit ... for now

Wendy - By the way do you have one of those Gym Balls (they're sometimes called Swiss Ball or even pregnancy balls)? You can get them in Boots for about 10 quid including the pump. If you sit on the edge of one of them rather than a chair they're brilliant for back pain. They force you to sit up straight whilst at the same time being gently on the pelvic muscles. Also gently bouncing on them exercises your pelvic floor muscles - very good.
Just make sure that it's blowwn up enough so that when you sit on it that your hips are higher than your knees.

Love to All and the Bumps,

Edi

balls and stuff

Post by Wendy »

Hiya, thanks for that Edi, I do have a ball and found it incredibly comfortable last time around in the later stages ( and was excellent for leaning on whilst watching coronation street in the later stages to keep baby in the right position) I had forgotten about it but will root it out now.
Fantastic news with the scan - we're hoping our 22wker will give us a bit more reassurrance that we made the right decision not to have the amnio.
love to all - phones ringing wendy xxx

Hello girls!
Great news on your scan Edi. It's great hearing that the baby looks healthy. What a surprise that will be in the end =)

I only recently heard about the ball. I'm in a prenatal exercise class and we started using one there. One girl is a week past her due date so she was bouncing like mad today. We're all hoping we won't see her next week!

Love ya!

Hi Girls,
Its lovely to see that you are all doing well and the babies are all progressing nicely! I am pleased to report that our nuchal went really well and both the babies are low risk for Downs, which seeing as I turn 40 next month I was extremely relieved to hear. The consultant said that based on that he would recommend no further testing(amnio or CVS), which is good. Next scan at 20 weeks on 10th June. Something else to get myself into a panic about nearer the time I guess!
Exactly the same happened on this scan as the last, one of the twins is dancing about all over the place and the other looks like its having a snooze. Then it woke up and they were both jumping around. It so weird that you can see them doing it on the screen but not feel anything. I cant wait til I can but I guess thats a while off yet.
Edi, We have decided not to find out the sex either, so we will be buying lots of cream and lemon too! I am convinced that they will be boys as I read that blastos lean towards males and frosties girls! Although seeing as one seems to be more active than the other it may be one of each, the lazy one being the boy of course!!
Kelly, I to have been through my wardrobe, stupidly I tried on a few things as I thought I may get away with them for my holiday, how depressing was that!! So like you I am putting them out the way and hoping that one day I will be able to wear them again?!? God knows what I will wear on holiday. I have however been wishing I have a bigger bump, as most of the other women at antenatal(and we were all there for our 12wk scans) had bigger bumps than me!! I just feel fat!
Thanks for the advice on the flight girls, I guess if I drink lots of water I will be moving around a fair bit to visit the loo!!! Think I will take some nibbles too, thats a good idea. With luck my friend may well be able to get us an upgrade as she works for the airline and is meeting us at the airport to see us onto the flight, so fingers crossed!
Might invest in one of those balls as you all seem to think that they are good. I normally have a bad back anyway, and that seemed to be much better when I exercised on a regular basis. However since I got pg I havent done any exercise and its been fine?!? But I can start my swimming again now! yippee! Am actually starting to feel less tired than I was which is nice.
Well girls, hope you all have a great weekend.
Take Care
Love Sue xxxxxx

went for a monthly blood and urine test today and met another english girl there whos 2wks ahead of me but she doesn't look pregnant at all, but she says she feels fat, I wonder what she thought of me - I look like I'm carrying quintuplets compared to her !! Needles to say bumps vary tremendously, theres a great site that I used to go on with photos, can't find that one but have found this one
www.amazingpregnancy-pictures.com - gives you a good idea of the variety of bumps !!

feeling loads of movement, usually around 7pm - 10pm when I'm slobbing out watching tv !!

Hello!
Hope you all had a nice weekend. We had a busy one! Went over a friends house on Saturday. They have two children (boy and girl) and they are just the best kids. Well behaved, polite, outgoing ... so I was picking their mother's brain all night trying to figure out how she did it. Walked away with tons of advice and helpful tips (a few books too =). She also gave me some suggestions on strollers, carseats, etc.

I made my first trip to Baby's R Us yesterday. I wanted to go just to see what's out there (as far as strollers & carseats) and start doing some general research. Wow ... was that ever overwhelming. I'm quite sure I looked like a deer in headlights several times, but I'm glad I went. I have a feeling I'll be making several trips before actually purchasing anything.

Sue ... congrats on the good news regarding your nuchal! I'm sure you feel a wave of relief. I think that's when I finally started relaxing into this pregnancy a bit more. Happy to hear that there will be another surprise birth on this thread! I'm so impressed with both you and Edi. I can't remember when you were going on holiday, but I wanted to mention something else. Try to resist buying clothes for your trip until you're really close to leaving. I made the mistake of shopping about 2 weeks prior and by the time I left I just barely fit into anything.

Wendy ... the belly website was fun to check out. Amazing how different every pregnancy is. I was talking about that with a friend the other day. The differences in belly size, symptoms, etc.

Hope everyone is feeling well!
Love ya,

Kelly

Hi Girls

Hope you are all ok. I have been visiting my Mum who lives 150 miles from me. Didnt think I could tackle the driving etc until now as I think I would have fallen asleep at the wheel or had to stop for a wee too many times!! But I had a nice time and am feeling pretty good at the mo?! I actually have some energy.
Kelly, thanks for the tip on holiday gear. I have been out on a spending spree over the last few days so hoping that they will still fit next week and throughout the holiday, otherwise I could be travelling home in a sarong and one of Robs T shirts!! Must admit I dont much like myself in swimwear at the mo though!! Will have to hope that Greenpeace dont have a boat off shore as they may think I am beached whale :D We have a Babies R Us not far from us, but I havent ventured there... yet!!

Wendy, Loved that site that you provided a link too!! Its amazing how much people vary. My bump has grown a bit and I can really notice that the top of my stomach, above my belly button, is much bigger. I ordered a pair of maternity linen trousers from Next, they were huge!! There is no way you could wear them until you were heavily pg, but it was quite scary looking at how far they stretched and thinking that I will probably fill them in a few months
Hope you are ok Edi?
When should I expect to feel something? Some books say 16wks other much later? And what does it feel like? Am 16wks while we are away and dont want to mistake it for something else!
Its a beautiful day here so am going to spend it in the garden, the weeds wont know what hit them.
Take care all
Sue xxxx

Hi Sue,
This is going to be a quick once ... it's BEAUTIFUL out here today, so I'm headed out to enjoy some of it.

I was also pretty disgusted with how I looked in my bathing suit too. Not really very pregnant looking at the time, just a bigger than normal belly. Enjoy it anyhow though.

I was asked by my Dr. if I felt anything yet at 16 weeks, but I didn't. Then I did at 17 weeks, and there was no mistaking it for anything else. I don't think that's the case for all, but that's what it was like for me. And I know a lot of women (especially 1st time moms), don't feel anything until later (20-22 weeks). So I think time frame varies as well. Mine felt like someone was literally tapping on my lower abdomen from the inside. It's light at first, but becomes stronger and stronger as the baby grows.

It's a great feeling though! Even better (in some ways) than seeing the scans. Enjoy your holiday!

Where is everyone??? It's awful quiet on here lately! Wendy - did you have your follow-up scan to confirm gender? Edi - it's been a while ... how are you and baby? Sue - I think you're off on holiday.

Not much new here. Trying to get in as much exercise as possible. I have my monthly check-up tomorrow. Should be short and sweet. I'm anxious to see if I put on the 7-8 lbs. he was looking for. I think I'm close (almost can't believe it). I'll be 21 weeks on Thursday. Looking forward to that wonderful 25 week mark.

I'm off to South Florida for a long weekend tomorrow. Most of my family lives there, and they are all anxious to see me with a belly =) This will be my last plane flight, so I'm crossing fingers and toes that all goes smoothly while I'm away.

Hope you all are rolling along nicely.
Hugs,

Kelly

Hi Kelly

Am still here and off to Antigua tomorrow for two wonderful weeks!! I must admit I am really looking forward to it! I guess it will be our last holiday like that for a while
It is quiet on here I agree, hope the others will keep you company whilst I am away!
Lucky you having family in Florida, it will be great when your little girl is older and you can take her to the attractions. It still seems weird to me to think that I will be doing things like that, its like I always dreamed of it and cant believe that the dream will hopefully, finally come true.
I have soo many clothes in my case!! Ones that still fit and fatter ones too incase I suddenly expand!
Thanks for the info re movement, I will keep aware and cant wait, but I dont think it will be till I come back off my holiday.
Hope everyone else is ok.
Have a lovely weekend Kelly and will be back on in a few weeks!!
Lots of love

Hi Sue,
I believe you're still in Antigua soaking up the rays! Hope you're having a marvelous time. Looking forward to hearing about your adventures, and curious to see if you felt your babies move yet =)

My trip to FL was nice. Everyone was excited to see me and the belly. It was fun, but I was happy to get home. I had some swelling from the plane flight home, so no more flying for me. It is nice having relatives in FL. My Dad lives about an hour from Disney, so I'm sure we'll be making many trips in the future. It is like a dream come true ... something I never thought I'd get to do.

Wendy and Edi ... what happened to you two? It's been a while since either of you posted. I hope everything is okay???

It's late here. I have a cold that's making me quite miserable at the moment (keeping me awake as well). My stomach and back muscles are so sore from all the coughing. If I don't feel better by tomorrow night I'm calling my doctor. Baby is doing fine though. I'm so happy I can feel her move, otherwise I would definitely be a basket case worrying.

Good Night and Hugs!

sorry i've been away for so long

Post by Wendy »

Hi everyone, so so so sorry I havn't posted for so long - no reason, everythings fine, just one of those things, busy busy, loads of relatives visiting and busy getting ready for the season (our holiday cottages)
Had my 22wk scan the other day (fri 13th of all days !!!) everything was great, he confirmed its definately a boy and we have named him Thomas Martin Blakeman. Thomas was a name we had chosen along with Benjamin and Sophie, 22 yrs ago when we first met and Martin is Chris' second name and named after his great uncle who was killed in the 2nd world war. Thomas is growing very nicely as am I, probably because of all the sugary foods I'm addicted to - can't stop eating !!! trying to do it healthily but the cakes and croissant just call to me. Still managing to keep up with Benjamin - just.
We are going for anther scan on thursday at la rochelle - hes a specialist and has a really good machine and can say things like - no cleft palate, no club foot, 10 fingers, 10 toes, etc etc which is very reassuring.

Sounds like everyones getting in some great holidays and weekend breaks - excellent idea, unfortunately the holiday season is our busy time, so we can't get away anywhere just yet.

Glad everyones ok. I'll try and get on more often.....
loads of love, Wendy, Chris, Benjamin and (((Thomas))) xxxx

Hi Girls

I am back and I had a lovely holiday. Spent a lot of time resting, reading, swimming and eating all that lovely fresh fruit they have over there!
The only prob I had was when we hired a car for a few days and sitting made my feet swell up, cos of the heat! However since returning to freezing england that problem has been resolved!
I had my midwifes appt yesterday, and at 17 weeks I am measuring the same as a 22wk woman with a singleton  !!(I always wondered what a fundus was!), but you should be about a month ahead they said, So yes I have a bump now! I have gained a stone in weight too!! Have been told they like you to gain 24lb by 24 weeks in a twin pregnancy, so I guess I am on track!?! I heard both heartbeats for the first time which was amazing, they sounded different too. Apart from needing iron for anemia, everything was fine, so I just have my scan to worry about now in three weeks time.
Wendy, great news on your scan and I am sure your little boy will be thrilled to have a brother. You seem to get far more scans in France than we do here, I guess thats the NHS for you!
Kelly, glad you had a great time seeing your family, I dont think I have felt anything definate yet as regards to movement. The midwife said about week 18, so should be soon...I hope!! Hope your cold is getting better.
Wheres Edi?!
Take Care girls, all for now,
Lots of love,
Sue xxxx

Hi you two!
Glad to hear you had a nice holiday Sue. The fruit is addictive isn't it?! That's probably the thing I miss most about Hawaii. Colorado's fruit just isn't the same. Wonderful that you're weight is on track and you're measuring correctly. That's always reassuring. I'm sure you can't wait to have your ultrasound. 3 weeks isn't that far away! You said you were going to keep the sex a surprise .... correct?

Hey Wendy! Glad to hear that all is well and that you've been busy. I was getting worried. Good news about Thomas! Soon Benjamin will have a little brother to run around with. The specialist scan sounds wonderful.

All is well here. I had a miserable battle with allergies last week. The coughing and nose blowing was really starting to strain the muscles in my back in stomach. Thank goodness it's all calmed down now. I'm feeling quite large these days. It's getting harder and harder to imagine my body returning to normal. DH is fascinated by the whole process. Sugar seems to be my weekness as well. I'm trying to watch how much sugar I'm eating, but it's tough. I think I've gained about 10 lbs. to date. Our little girl seems to be doing well. At my last appointment my doctor said they were going to do another scan in 10 weeks to check on my fibroid. Apparently it's low on my uterus and could cause a problem at delivery. I'm not to concerned about it, but it will be fun to see the baby again. We have our names narrowed down to two ... Anika Sage and Ella Sophia. We love both, but can't seem to pick from there. I think because they are both so different that we may wait until we meet her to make the decision.

That's about it here. Glad everyone is doing (and growing) well!
Love,
Kelly
