Thought I'd post to just say hello to you all and to introduce myself.
What a great site! It's so good to be able to communicate with people who are going through the same sorts of things and having the same feelings as yourself.

We've been trying to conceive now for just over 3 years, and have been diagnosed with unexplained infertility. We've just been offered 3 attempts at IUI by our local health authority, which I'm thinking of starting in the new year.
I've been dreading the thought of IVF (because I'm a coward), so am I'm quite relieved to have been offered IUI as it doesn't seem quite so involved, I'm hoping it will break me in gently for what might be the long road ahead! I Don't sound too very positive do I, It's almost like I'm expecting it to fail. Although with a 1 in 10 success rate, you have to be realistic.
I'd be really interested to hear about anyone else's experience with IUI.

Looking forward to chatting with you all.

Suzanne.

Hi Suzanne,

I am on the waiting list for IUI, another 6 months to go, I am not sure whether to pay for it privately or not, let me know how you are getting on.

I am currently trying to get my Mucus right once that is OK, then IUI is the next stage.

I must admit I thought the success rate of IUI was higher than 1 in 10!! it doesn't sound very hight whe put like that does it.

I was with my ex-husband for 11 yrs and tried to get pregnent, but he wouldn't come to the clinic with me, in the end we split up. My current partner Mike is a gem, and is very supportive, so fingers crossed.

Becky

Hi Becky,

I know, the odds don't seem so great do they, but who knows we could be one of the lucky ones.
Our Consultant actually said that 2 in 10 treatments end in pregnancy but 1 is then lost due to miscarriage. I suppose they have to tell you the way it really is rather than you thinking you're being offered some miracle treatment.
I was really surprised by the difference in the cost of treatment, apparently IVF would set us back £2500 and yet IUI costs I think she said £350. It made me feel as though I could have been pursuing that avenue privately instead of just getting increasingly depressed that I wasn't conceiving, but to be honest I don't think that emotionally I've been ready to get treatment previously.
I'm glad to hear that you have a supportive partner, it makes all the difference doesn't it. My husband Steve is great, whenever I'm feeling low he offers positive words of encouragement even though he's feeling as crap as me at the time.
Any way this is a bloody melancholy note, so I'll sign off before I make you want to start slashing your wrists!

Speak soon,

Sue.
