Anther New Girl!

Hi Everyone

I have been following this site for the past month and just want to say how much help and support it has given me, not to mention the friendships which have been building up between you all.

I have just gone through my first cycle of IVF and today is day 11 of my 2WW - unfortunately AF has arrived and so realise it is all over for me. I am supposed to be testing on Thursday. Although I'm completely gutted and upset I definitely want to try again and not give up hope. I just wondered if anyone could give me some advice on any questions I should be asking the clinic about why the cycle may have failed - or is it just that it's not my time!

My other question is anyone else having treatment at the Oxford Fertility Unit and if so how have you found it. We are not sure whether to continue with them or try the London Fertility Clinic in Harley Street which I gather has good success rates.

Anyway, just wanted to say good luck to all of you who are testing this week as I think there are a few of you and also to everyone who's just starting their 2WW.

Thanks

Andie

Hi Andie,

Am sorry you're treatment didn't work, it's tough isn't it, but at least you sound positive still.

I had a failed ET a few weeks ago myself (which was done in a natural cycle). I've got a follow-up appt with my consultant today, and too am wondering what happens next, what can be done next time to hopefully make it work (we have 8 embies left as frozen). I'll let you know what they say. x

Hi Andie

I'm sorry too that it didn't work this time. Did you have any "frosties" to use for next time?. I am due to start my first treatment at the Oxford Fertility Unit in January, off for the "group" meeting next week.

I am trying not to get my hopes up too much for the first attempt, their statistics show that your chances improve the more attempts you have, although that's hard to think about right now I'm sure.

I'm from the Bracknell area, so my choices were Slough, Basingstoke or Oxford. All the medical staff that I've spoken to recommend Oxford as they are supposed to have the latest technology, being a teaching Hospital and all that.

Just looking forward to enjoying Christmas now and starting in the New Year. Maybe we'll be cycling together?

Take care of you.

Kathy
x

Hi Andie and Kathy
Andy, so sorry to hear your IVF cycle failed - have you got any frozen to use?

I am at Oxford too and have been extremely lucky to have a positive result 1st time. We had ICSI as dh has low sperm count with low motility. I found them to be brilliant right from the start. I live in Windsor and my choices were Slough and there was an awful consultant from the Lister who had a satellite clinic at Princess Christian but was told by someone who had dealings with him not to go anywhere near him as he was a horrible man. He told me to wait a few years and save the money, he didn't understand that we wanted to start immediately. We went to Oxford and were really impressed with the friendly staff and they never seem to get fed up of the endless questions I ask them. They were even kind enough to do the preliminary blood tests for FSH etc as my local doctors were too mean and said I had to go private, so Oxford did them on the NHS for us. It meant an hour journey but saved us £200. We have been very happy there but at the end of the day, it is a personal choice about where you feel comfortable. Good luck both of you.
Lots of love
Louise XXX

Hi Louise & Kathy

Thanks so much for all the advice. I'm so pleased to hear from other people at Oxford aswell as me. I have to say that the staff have been very good so far so I think we are going to try again in January and stay at Oxford - we'll be cycling together Kathy. Hopefully we'll both be lucky. Unfortunately we had no frosties as they weren't good enough so it's a complete cycle again for me!

Louise, I'm so pleased that it worked for you first time, you must be so excited. When did you get your positive result?

Good luck and take care

Andie
