How long after transfer can you test for pregnancy?

Post by andy354 »

My wife had egg transfer on weds 4th and the doc told us we should not do a preg test until this Monday (16th) it is now Saturday evening (14th) and what I am wondering is that if my wife was pregnant would a pregnancy test show positive now?

Many thanks

Hi,

I think it is best to wait until the 16th. Your wife's HCG may not be high enough to pick up on a home pregnancy test if she is pregnant. A false negative result may cause you both unnecessary stress. I have not yet been in this position myself, but the many wise and sensible girls on this site always say wait the full two weeks.

Thanks Olivia - Well too late I am afraid. Despite me tellling my wife a million times not to go behind my back and test early she went and done it today whilst i was out and it came out negative :( I am SO CROSS with her that right now I cannot stand to be near her. I told her so many times not to test early and it seems I was talking to myself!

Yes I know she may be pregnant still but I am certain that with just 35 hours to go before she was due to test this to me is conclusive.

To say i am disappointed in her for doing this behind my back is an understatement

Andy ... 35 hours can really make all the difference. Don't give up, just hang on in there a little longer.

Andy,

Please don't give your wife an hard time, these test sticks always get the better of us.

I was like your wife I tested early 24 hours early and I got a negative but I did then test on my official test date and I got a positive.

I am now blessed with a 15 month old son Alex-Mitchell.

Wishing you all the luck in the world.

Love
Shell.

Hi sand,

Yes today at 6am she tested which was supposed to be her test date and it was negative :( This was our 4th attempt and we are wondering if there is any point in continuing as maybe she just cant keep her eggs. They implanted 2 grade 1 eggs and the other 2 we left both turned to blastocyst so the clinic were confident these two would take.

My wife held her urine before she slept so the urine she made this morning was quite strong. Although she still has not had her period the clinic say because she did a week longer on Suprecur and took steroids during these past 14 days this may lead to a delayed period.

we have a follow up tomorrow morning but I am afraid we are running out of options now and this is somewhat depressing to say the least.

Cheers

Andy

Hi Andy .. I've just seen and replied to your post on the general forum. I'm so sorry it hasn't worked out for you both this time. Has your wife had any immunological testing done ?? I'm certainly no expert on this, but it is a fairly hot discussion topic on this site. If you have a look on the General Forum, you'll find a thread called "Ever Wondered Why IVF Fails ? Read on". It might be on page 2,3 or even 4 by now. It's certainly worth a read.

I hope your appointment tomorrow proves useful.
