Hi Girls
I'm not sure if any of you will remember me. I used to post on the boards regularly during my 3 IVF treatments. On our third attempt our dream came true and we have a beautiful 7 month old baby boy called Jake.
I stopped breastfeeding a few weeks ago and have just got my first period since Jake's birth. My question is, am I mad to live in hope that I may fall pregant naturally? I have mild PCOS, but they actually put us in the unexplained category. I know that it could happen naturally and you do hear of it (and I'm sick of friends saying oh it will probably happen naturally next time) but after 4 years of trying and only conceiving with IVF I'm sure our chances are slim. We're going to try to start trying this month as we don't want to wait in case it takes years again. I'm so happy to have Jake and don't want to start obsessing about having another baby, but I don't think I can help myself. If any of you have any useful tips or inspiring stories please tell!

Our darling son Jake was born in October 2004 on our 3rd IVF attempt. I have PCOS. We're now trying again naturally, before embarking on our next FET IVF possibly late 2005... so watch this space!!!

Jake sounds beautiful!, my Annie is six months old, so they are about the same age, and it is a fun time now that they're engaging with you and laughing (most of the time...grrr I hate teething!!!)..I absolutely don't think you're mad for wanting to get pregnant again, and to hope to get pregnant naturally is completely normal and understandable, and I feel exactly the same way..Though I must be slightly loopy as I am still breastfeeding but thinking that maybe just maybe it could happen??..So we live with hope, I think that's a great thing!!

what a lovely positive thread! Trying again now we've our tiny miracles isn't such a suprise. Even if Jake + Annie are relatively young now, they'll not be by the time a younger baby comes along, so why not try naturally and see what happens?

We had ICSI in July 2003, and were lucky enough to conceive first time, we now have a 13 month old son. I breastfed him until a couple of weeks ago, but my periods returned when he was about nine months old and went down to 2 feeds a day . . . we decided not to use contraception after the birth, and see what happened, thinking it highly unlikely I would ever get pregnant naturally, or if I did it would take years (but of course hoping like mad we would be proved wrong) . . . three periods later, I DID fall pregnant, and am now 11 weeks!
I too have/had PCOS Michelle - but my cycle was entirely regular after having Frank, for the first time since my teens. Our fertility issues were mainly with my DH though, whose count, motility and abnormality levels were all severe - hence the ICSI. Of course, we have been astonishingly lucky, and I'm not suggesting what has happened to us is common. Nevertheless, it can happen. Particularly if your situation was unexplained perhaps?
Anyway, I don't want to raise false hopes, and I used to get heartily sick of people saying it would probably happen naturally for us. I guess I would say though, assume you may end up with two children very close in age!!!
The only tip I have is that I really wasn't obsessed this time and just enjoyed the nooky(!) for what it was, without even particularly aiming for fertile times . . . which was much more fun than last time, when we tried for a year and a half and got pretty miserable about my cycle and not knowing when to try. Good luck and enjoy your boy Michelle - he must be fab if you're up for trying again so soon.

Bel, Annie is absolutely gorgeous! How lovely that she is almost Jake's age - wouldn't it be lovely if we both fell pg naturally! I don't think Jake is teething properly yet, everything is in his mouth but no signs of the actual teeth yet....he is sleeping pretty well and I'm just waiting for it all to change!
Debra, you are so right, Jake and Annie would be nearing two if we fell in the next few months!
Becky, I am SOOOOO grateful for your thread. Huge Congratulations, I am so happy for you, you must be completely over the moon. How bloody marvellous and it just goes to show that miracles can happen. Oooooooh I really hope I follow in your footsteps. Well done on breastfeeding for so long - that is amazing, one of the main reasons I stopped is so that my period would return and that we could start trying again....I must say I felt guilty stopping but I fed Jake exclusively for 6 months and then weaned him onto formula for another two weels so I guess I gave him a pretty good start. I must say I really miss nursing him, it was so lovely. He is rather enjoying his solids now, but his poos are now human-like and not so nice!!! Becky you are so right, I should put trying to the back of my mind (more easily said than done though!) and just enjoy the nooky...for the sake of nooky not babies!
So good to be back on the site - I remember now what a support it was and is.

we werent blessed with our babies to raise here but we our blessed with our grandaughter

Hi Michelle and everyone else. You arn't mad at all. After our first baby through icsi, I knew I wanted more and we never even discussed contraception - we had tried for a baby for 8 yrs no sucess so the likely hood of conceiving naturally was practically non existant so we just ENJOYED THE SEX !!! without the thermometers and drugs etc etc and enjoyed our baby. Nothing happened but I hadn't expected it too, so when we were ready we went for the ivf again - it worked second time and i'm pregnant again (5mths). I'm already talking about squeezing another couple of goes in, in a couple of yrs, for some more siblings and I havn't even had this one yet. Miracles do happen but don't expect it to - just incase - its not how life should be, but even if you don't conceive naturally, you can always do the ivf route again. My advice - enjoy the SEX !!! love from wendy xxx

Annie is teething at the moment, she already has her bottom two teeth, but I think the top two are about to break through as well..Through all of this her day sleeps are up the creek and she is not her happy little self..but I would still love another one just like her (we're shockers aren't we!!!)..
Well done for feeding Jake exclusively for six months, Annie was also exclusively fed for the first six months and I really do think its a wonderful start for them..Its no mean feat though and doesn't work out for everyone, so good on you I say!!!..Know what you mean about the poos, is rather a shock after those lovely mustary breastfed poos isn't it?!?!?!?!

Great thread - Becky your story REALLY amazes me! We are in exactly the same position although I REALLY dont think even in my wildest dreams we would ever get PG naturally. We too had ICSI for VERY severe male factor (NO sperm in ejacualute....had to ahve TESE to get any at all). But your story is pretty inspirational.
I was just opening the website to ask about FET as I too am considering a 2nd one. We are so lucky to ahve our beautiful baby gorl , half of me wonders if I'm not being really greedy wanting more....but I think it would be so lovely for our little girl to havea sibling - so I figure I may as well investigate!

Don't know if any of you will remember me - I'm a real old timer on the site and don't often post these days. However I also have an unexplainable success story to relate. Tried for 4.5 yrs before falling pg after IVF with my son Max (born Nov 2002). Had some failed IUIs en route. However in Jan 2004 I discovered that I had falled pg naturally! Our infertility was unexplained but we never thought that it would happen to us. Unfortunately that pg ended in an early m/c and we had no further success in 2004. This year we decided to go for IVF again but decided to try clomid for a couple of mths beforehand. There was no reason why it should work and the consultant told us we were wasting our time - but hey presto, I'm 10 wks pg after 2 mths on clomid. Who knows how it happened (and quite frankly, who cares as long as it did!). Fingers crossed this one will be successful.
So never say never. For some reason a pregnancy seems to trigger something in some people which increases their chances of falling pg naturally afterwards.
There is no logic in this game.

14 weeks of breastfeeding is fabulous..my child health nurse says that every day they get is a bonus. I know what you mean as well about difficulty feeding in public, on a recent plane flight with Annie a fellow an aisle in front was literally turning his head to look at me during the feed. He was just about dislocating his neck to get a good old look..what a strange man!!.
As she gets older she pulls off my nipple in the most in-discreet manner as well, she comes off and throws herself across my lap looking up at me, so of course my breast is there for the world to see...
Anyway, just wanted to say get over the guilt, your little one is doing beautifully by the sounds of things!

Dee, huge congratulations! What fabulous lovely news. I was thinking of also possibly trying Clomid...although not until we have tried naturally for a few months first. Did your GP give it to you? I would much rather go down that route than use our frozen embies (we have 3 which aren't great quality). I'm so happy for you and as I'm typing I've got a huge grin...
Caz, you did so great breastfeeding.....looking at Annie's picture she is thriving! I kind of carried on for so long because as well as wanting to, I didn't relish the thought of preparing the bottles, sterilising etc. Now though I miss the ease of just whipping out a boob!
Bel, how is adorable Annie's teething? Have the other teeth appeared yet? I was with my niece who is 4 weeks younger than Jake today and she already has two bottom teeth which look so cute. I wonder when Jake's will appear....hopefully he won't have too many teething symptons as I've only just got him on a good routine....and I'm scared to even mention the word routine, just in case he wakes up!!!!
Wendy, how amazing to be 5 months pregnant - you must be looking swell by now. I was in Next the other day and saw all the lovely maternity clothes (seem much nicer than last summers!) and it really made me miss my bump....also, I miss eating fattening foods and not feeling guilty (she says after eating Pizza for dinner).

I have to say teething isn't a great deal of fun!!..Annie has her two bottom teeth and I'm pretty sure the top two aren't far behind..I really think it's harder for them just before the teeth appear, maybe they're kind of moving around in the jaw a little, once they came through she was fine...
