Just curious about this one.
Ive been told to do a hpt, I know some of you are against hpt's and the clinic's do blood tests.

I've just voted its a blood test for me but have to wait an extra 2 days because of the bank holiday. At our clinic we test 12 days after ET but I've seen how most of you have to wait over 14 days what a nightmare.
My clinic actually does a blood test 6 days after ET and then 10 days after ET...so no 2WW but a 1WW. My HCG was extremely low on 6 days so the clinic knew for sure I wasn't preggers...but I think if you are borderline or above then the use the 10day to compare.
Also they have an intranet site so I can actually see my results...which is helpful cuz german is my second language and I don't always catch the small things on the phone.
I was just quite shocked when the doc at my clinic said ' off you go then' after the iui I said 'do i need to book appointment for pg test?'and she said 'you can do but we just do the hpt the same as you would at home' So i am doing it at home..... Save's a 46 mile round trip!!! and if it's -ve I wont be in the mood for driving!!
Just feel after all the scans and monitoring ive been through, this end bit is a bit slap dash!!!
Also been reading about the test in various books and web site, most say do bloods.... Most say hpt are a sin!!!

That's me voted HPT - although I could have gone to the hosptial but they only test your urine NO blood test (probably because it is the NHS - not sure)
DH wanted to go to the hospital - as it turns out we were away so had to do the HPT but I think for me (especially as it was -ve) it was a better option - except it took a few days to sink in
Me 32 DH 37 ttc 2years
Male Factor
First ICSI October 04 - cycle abandoned high risk of OHSS
ICSI April/May 05 -ve
ICSI Sep/Oct 05 +ve result 12th October
DD born June 2006
ICSI Oct/Nov08 -ve
My clinic tells us to do a HPT (they recommend ClearBlue) on Day 14. If it's a +ve then you come in for a blood test. I'm happy with that. I would hate to trudge up to hospital, have bloods, wait for 6 hours then find out it's a -ve. Had to do this when I had the +ve in December; up there for tests, went home, passed so much blood I knew I'd lost the pg, went back for results, was told I was pg, had to return 4 days later for another test, which was then -ve.
My clinic does HPT but i find it drags it all out longer. last time my period didn't arrive until 3 wks after ET and my clinic insisted i carried on doing HPTs every 2 days so i basically had a 3ww.
This time i've still not come on but had a -ive on my test date (weds) and another -ive this morning so i know it's negative, period or no period and i certainly won't be testing again.
