Hi,

I have been told I have poor mucus, although my partner has super sperm, I kill it....

I have taken Ethinyloestradiol 50mgs a day and it didn't work, so now this month I am doubling up and taking 100mgs a day to see it that makes any difference if it does then they will put me on the injections. If not I am on the waiting list for IUI.

I wondered if anyone out there could recommend a change of diet that might help, I will try anything even "Sprouts" if I thought it would work

Becky
Hi becky,
I have a similar problem although its not quite the same, i have whats known as Hostile Cervical Mucus, maybe you know about this, its when the Cervical Mucus is too thick at Ovulation for the sperm to penetrate, they need a hammer and tong ! We were told we only have one in a hundred chance of conceiving naturally.
Your the only person i've come across apart from me who has this kind of problem, we account for about 3 % of the infertility problems.
Did you have the Post Coital Test to find this out ?
Anyway to get back to what you asked about diet , the only thing i've heard of avoiding is dairy products mainly milk as a cervical mucus can become sticky , just as a mucus in the lining of the nose becomes when you have a cold (hope this isn't too graphic for you)
Sorry i cant be of any greater help, only consulation is that the IUI treatment could prove very successful for you.
Good luck and keep me posted on what you decide to do next.

Take Care
Julie M
XXX
Hi Julie,

Thanks for replying. It was through a Post Coital Test that I found out about my mucus, I have had two now, I am due another in 10 days so fingers crossed.
I will avoid dairy products now, I have nothing to loose by doing so.
If I find out any other information I will email it to you.
I am on the waiting list for IUI, it is about 10 months, I won't wait that long, I will try the injections alone for 3 months if that doesn't work then I will pay to have it done, it is a lot cheaper than IVF.
Are you taking Clomide, because that can cause thicking of the Mucus, which is why I would have to use injections instead which of course is a lot more expensive!!
Are you going for IUI?

Take care
Becky
xxx

Hi Becky,
We have had one IUI which failed due to ovulation taking place before the egg was mature enough to be fertilised, moved onto another attempt with fostimon and bruserilin to prevent this, but this resulted in the production of 27 eggs of which 9 were mature enough to fertilize so this was stopped before the insemination stage.
We then decided on another go with the dosage of injections lowed but this resulted in 5 eggs so clinic said this could be switched over to Ivf because each time there were too many eggs growing for iui to be an option . Sadly this failed in September .

The Cervical mucus has always been too thick apparently, possibly from the age of eleven when AF kicked in, but nobody picked up on this as its not something you can openly discuss is it ? The hospital did Post Coital test and said that was the problem with not being able to conceive, i had a D and C and they wanted to repeat the test , but i knew D and C hadnt cured it.

Anyway after paying out for treatment we have just found out we have an appointment on NHS at Manchester Royal in december after waiting nearly 18 months for treatment.

Hope everthing goes well with you, hope you are taking your folic acid, i threw mine in a cupboard somewhere as its a reminder that the Ivf failed, must dig them out again before christmas.
Take care and post soon
Julie M
XXXXX
