infertility - too much exercise

Post by paulsmith »

Does anyone have any evidence that too much exercise can cause infertility ?

We have been ttc for 18 months

I am addicted to jogging and run about 6-10 miles every day
sometimes i will do a long run at the weekend. (20 Miles)

Surely being fit must help fertility?

Hi Paul ... I'm just reading a section of Zita West's "Fertility and Conception".

She says "If you're not used to exercising regularly, avoid launching yourself into a gruelling fitness regime. Strenuous exercise more than three times per week can have the opposite effect from what you have in mind and inhibit your chances of conceiving".

I don't know if you can read the above 2 sentences in isolation. You're obviously used to regular exercise.

Hi there

Have you googled about this?

I've always heard that being fit was good except when associated with some eating disorders such as anorexia or bulimia.

I've read somewhere, can't tell you exactly where, that cycling could be a problem but that's nor your case.

I'd do some research if i were you.

Good luck

Jogging or biking excessively can cause damage to fertility.

Our dr. suggested that continuous heating up of the testicles can kill sperm.

So moderation is the key. Be healthy, but don't overkill it.
