Have anyone found -that their little one seems to have quite radical mood swings?! Happy one minute that screaming for no apparent reason the next. This has just started with us in the last couple of weeks (from about 4 months)
Also she seems to not be crazy about being passed around lots of people either (having been fine with it to begin with) and has also taken to screaming when she sees some men. Generally being a bit clingy
Nightmare - I'm so keen for her to be sociable.....but its a bit tricky at the mo. I still love her though!!!!!!!!!
Am wondering if she just gets a bit overwhelmed and tired - - how much sleep should a 4 to 5 month old be getting between 7am and 7pm do you think?
Would love to hear from anyone whos baby has been though this slight "cranky" stage?!
Suddenly not liking certain people (esp. men) was a phase for us too. Being passed around was never a big hit. It took me some time but I did learn that everything is a phase. Pulling out plugs, yanking on all leads/wires etc. being obsessed with remote controls, switching off the tv, adjusting the oven/radiators/lights...you name it, it's to come!!!!!
We're struggling with the 2s....we've watched it getting closer and closer and now we have terrible trouble dressing her, feeding her anything other than Weetabix...this evening she had complete hysterics as she wanted to watch 'LaLa' but then ejected the disc each time I put a dvd in. I couldn't win. I put the stereo on for her (gentle jazz), closed the study door, and left her to play for 30mins whilst I calmed down.
I'm with Debra on this one..this too will pass!!..
Annie is six months old, and we have very much done the mood swings, and we have certainly done the not wanting to be handed around thing too..We're currently up to trying to eat grass (despite me placing her on her mat on the lawn), crawling up the cot then getting stuck and SCREAMING for help and generally shoving everything and anything in her mouth (this morning it was one of our dogs....)
As for sleep, 7-7 is fanastic!!!, I have found when Annie is teething (as she is currently) she wakes once or twice during the night, sometimes she can be successfully patted back to sleep my her dad, and other times I feed her back (bad mummy thing I know!!)..Annie has three sleeps per day, 2 in the morning of about one a half hours each and then one in the afternoon of about an hour. My rule is that day sleeps should be at least an hour, so if she wakes before then I try to get her back to sleep..I figure though that whatever works for you guys is great. I really loved "Secrets of the baby whisperer", and I know Gina Fords "Contented little baby book" seems big amongst the UK gals..
Good luck and have fun!
Your mantra: This too will pass!!

hi caz,
I am so impressed with your efforts to have a socialble vhild - no reaoson to think you will not succeed. I agree with Bel and Debra it's a developmental phase, we have had this with Nadia since she has been 6 months, especially the crying when she sees some men. Not Alexander, he is the world's best buddy ready to smile at anyone - as long as he's had his food! But our girl even got scared of her grandfather last month and it was just as I was leaving them for the first time with my inlaws! it was incredibly difficult to go away on our planned trip then - but then she got used to granddad later and was ok when we were back. But as for the mood swings - I know four months is early but could it be teething? Alex started at five months and has been quite cranky when the teeth broke, by now he's got five!
Greetings Bel and Debra, Debra, I replied to your sad news on the other thread. Bel, it seems that Annie is getting more and more adventurous, does she try to crawl?
love,
juliana
HI gals,
Julianna, how are you going??, how old are Nadia and Alexander now?? Annie is definately trying to crawl, she rolls happily onto her tummy (she used to HATE tummy time), then gets her little bottom up in the air then just gets frustrated..Poor little mite..She knows she wants to move along, just can'ty get it all together..She is such a determined little girl though!!
Take care
Belinda
Hi, hi Bel,
Nadia and Alex are eight months now and not too different from Annie I imagine. they eat well and grow and get more interesting by the day. Nadia is like Annie very determined so she learned to crawl in the last 2 months and explores all around the room, but Alex just lies there in the living room like a beached seal and cries for me to pick him up! I don't know what I am going to do with his motor skills! As a compensation he is everyone's friend, smiles at anyone who comes to visit and laughs aloud when he sees his sister (used to be me but now I am boring I think). In a certain way, they are getting more difficult, I am slightly apprehensive about coping with this new phase, we've done so well so far, but when both head in opposite directions I am a bit at a loss...But they are impossibly cute (that's me being objective)...
well, that's our news, hope all is well with you!
greetings and kisses to Annie,
love,
juliana
Julianna,
Eight months!!!, wow that's gone fast!!, Annie is teething at the moment, what a nightmare..She has rosy red chaeeks and just cries and wants to be cuddled all the time..Her day time sleeps are all over the shop and I'm pretty exhausted to be honest..Am at mum and dads house in Sydney, so is nice to have them around to share the carrying..baby panadol is a godsend, it seem to take to the edge off somewhat...Have Nadia and Alexander got their teeth through yet??, Annie has the bottom two , but these ones seem to be causing her no end of grief!!
Your little Alexander sounds like a real charmer, boy you must have your hands full though!!!

Hi Bel,
Sorry to hear Annie's teething is going so difficultly, we have been relatively lucky with this so far. Alexander has worked hard on getting the biggest number of teeth possible, he got his first two at five months and a half with about a day of fuss and the top three came out in the last ten days, he's been a bit more difficult about them but on the whole, not too bad. Nadia got two only and with her it was half a day of being fussier than usual and she was ok. But Alexander has been difficult the last fews days teeth or no teeth he just cries all the time to be enetertained and with two I cannot carry him all the time. yesterday they really wore me out, completely on my own as dp has been at a conference. Cannot wait for him to come back though, it's way too difficult alone with twins. on the other hand I can imagine when one baby's cranky it does not help that it's only one...It's very nice that you have your parents to help with Annie. Hope the teething is over soon...Sydney is one of my dream cities to visit, do you have the chance to take her out a bit? I have only been to Melbourne and surroundings but absolutely loved it and the aussies so I plan to come back as soon as they are old enough to face that monster of a flight!
now I hear them waking up, better run.
love,
Juliana
HI Julianna,
You would love Sydney!!..its a truly beautiful city, the harbour is so lovely and the shopping unreal, Brisbane is also beautiful (where I am from) but Sydney wins hands down for me..Would be a huge flight with twins (or one I'd imagine!!). I fly back to Brisbane this afternoon with Annie. DH is already back at home but will meet us at the airport..The flight is at 3:35pm, which unfortunately coincides with Annie's slightly cranky time, so that coupled with two teeth trying to break through and a confined space and seatbelt could be a dreadful combination..Its only an hour and a half though, so hopefully it will go OK..
Do you have a baby carrier / sling type thing??..A friend of mine with twins just loves hers, she will often have one in the carrier and one on the floor..Though I always wonder doesn't the one not being carried get jealous???
thanks so much for reassuring replies! She is getting better with men but just needs to have good look before being handed over and generally isnt great with being passed around lots of people. Now I read this thread I realise that its not too abnormal. PHEW!
Hi Bel,
did you get home? how did the flight go?? Was Annie cranky?
yes the problem is not that one annot carry one but that that at least with my babies the one not carried gets jealous. it upsets me a lot not being able to lift both at the same time. But then again, they are such a blessing, it's a small price to pay!

Caz,
I think it is indeed quite normal not wanting to be passed around all the time! Yet I notice Nadia is less wary of strangers now, so this phase ight be getting better...?

juliana
The flight home was AWFUL..Annie had a rough couple of days, not sure whether it is because her top two teeth are about to come through or because I was arguing with my dad and she picked up on some tension in the air..She was very whingy on the flight, didn't want to sit on my lap, and there was lots of turbulence so I couldn't get out of my seat to walk with her..Never again!!!!, Johnie and I are now convinced that travel alone with a small baby is too bloody hard, we will do it together so at least we can share the nasty glares from un-child friendly people on board..
Caz. I would be very interested to hear your baby's routine as 7pm to 7am sounds pretty good to me!!!
Despite having done this twice before I am struggling to get Tilly to sleep through the night consistently. She is still very small, only 10lb 4 oz at 5 months and does need feeding up. However, she has slept through several times but then reverts to the 5.30 thing. Last night, I left her to moan and she went from 8 til 7 with a feed at 11pm.
Hi Bel,
Sorry to hear of your flying experience. I totally agree I would never fly alone but then with two babies it's just a theoretical possibility for me although there may be some brave and heroic women on this forum who have done it. I guess it all depends what shape they are in as with so many things. last week i was alone with them for just 3 days (baby sitter for 2 days durng the day) and I must say I fell apart. They were especially cranky one of the days and Alex keeps dribbling or even throwing up his food so when DP came home I was a wreck! So being alone with crenky baby(ies) is my least favourite thing...Hope Annie is better now, with us things improve as soon as the teeth come out...
Hi Fiona,
My babies started sleeping 7 to 7 from about 4 months old, Nadia was also very small (don't know how mcuh in pounds but she was smaller than most) but the Gina Ford routine helped me get them sleeping through. following the book, we did not take them out before 7 am which helped but I must say it did not happen too often that they were awake earlier. we started adding some baby rice flour to their last bottle about at that time, which I guess is more difficult if you breastfeed exclusively till 6 months... I hope this helps and good luck...

The good thing about my flight with Annie was that we had a spare seat next to us..that did make a difference, at least I was only getting death stares from across the aisle so could easily turn away, would have been much harder to deal with in very close proximity..flying with twins would be sooooooo tough, but yep, there probably are some amazing women on this site who have done it..surely not on there own though??
Sounds like you have had a tough week, I hope you have a lovely and relaxing weekend (as relaxing as life can be with small babies X 2!!).
