Bleeding started on my 23rd day of embryo transfer

Post by bexdanco »

Need more information. What's happening to my babies ?

I have been bleeding several times in a day. It started on my 23rd day of embryo transfer. My doctor is on vacation. When I talked to the substitute doctor about my bleeding, I realized a grave mistake. I was referred to an ob-gyne instead of a specialist. My world almost collapsed when I was told "let nature takes its course". I was asked to have bed rest and no medicines / injections were given. When I asked for injections to keep my babies, I was warned about over-watering/ over fertilizing.

May 1 - 5 embryos transferred; started 1 crinone gel & estrofem 2mg daily

May 6 - stomach & belly grew so tight as if it was about to burst 37". Top, left & right side of stomach cramping & tightening after each meal. lots of burping & gas

May 12 - tightening disappeared totally after several bottles of gatorade. diagnosis: hyperstimulated & low sodium level

May 17 - hcg 85; urine test negative
May 20 - hcg 331; urine test negative; estradiol 7520.8
May 21 - tapered estrofem from 2mg to 1mg; started aspirin 100mg
May 23 (am) - hcg 804; urine test positive
May 23 (evening) - 1st bleeding (gush of bleeding that lasted for a minute); returned estrofem to 2mg
May 24 (evening) - bedrest; 2nd bleeding (same amt); released crinones (golf ball size)
May 25 - bedrest; several bleedings (same amt)
May 26 - bedrest; hcg 780
May 27 (am)- estradiol 2885.7bj/ml; progesterone 172 ng/ml; ultrasound result showed 4 sacs. physical exam showed my cervix are tight.

Am I losing my babies without any fight ? Is my case (bleeding) something that modern technology can solve ?

Hi Bex

Im sorry to hear what you are going through and I cant offer you any personal experience on this, but from reading the boards a lot of women who are pregnant suffer from bleeding and dont miscarry. I know its easy to say dont worry because I would be the same, but the positive signs are that only yesterday you had 4 sacs seen on ultrasound and your cervix was tight so they are good signs. Keep to the bedrest and look after yourself. I will be thinking and praying for you.

Hi Bex,
I know how scary bleeding can be. Unfortunately your doctor is correct. There really isn't anything they can give you to stop it. The only thing you can do is put your feet up and wait it out. I had a lot of bleeding the first 2 week so my pregnancy. Cramping as well. Outside of the progesterone supplements, there was nothing else I could do. And yes ... having them tell you "let nature take it's course" does not help. But just remember that MANY women bleed during the first couple weeks. You have four sacs in there ... so there's a lot of activity going on. The process of the embies implanting will (in many women) cause the uterus to bleed. That may very likely be what's happening with you.

I actually had two bleeding episodes during my 1st trimester. The first was the first two weeks of the pregnancy. It stopped for a week or so then started again for an entire month. I nearly lost my mind with worry. But it truly is amazing how strong the embryos are, and how much they can endure. I am now 25 weeks pregnant with a little girl.

Relax, put your feet up, and continue to thing positive. Like Kim said, that's easy to say put next to impossible to do, and I know this. But remind yourself that it happens in many pregnancies that continue on to full term. I will be thinking about you.

nice to hear from you. My stress level has gone done to "0".

I had 2 shots of Proluton. Bleeding is less frequent. 2 incidents of bleeding within 24 hours of injection. no bleeding for next 24 hours. 1 incident of bleeding on the 3rd day.

my doctor will be back tomorrow. blood test for hcg, estradiol, progesterone & ultrasound will be done tomorrow also.

to be continued.....

Glad you are feeling a bit better.

It's amazing how many people have bleeding in pregnancy - myself included. I know it's easy for people to say 'try not o worry' but it's easier said than done. But, you must take it easy - there are so many 'normal' causes for bleeding - implantation, haematoma (which I had), irritated cervix, if you have more than one, the womb is apparently particularly sensitive and can be 'gripey'...the list goes on.

Whatever you do, stay positive and rest easy. Good luck

Hi there
I am half way through my 2ww and have had slight bleed yesterday, and a slight one today. My Test is due on 9th June, and although yesterday's worried and unnerved me a little, there was not a lot of blood and it did not last very long.
My Aunt, who had already had two children, was pregnant and having monthly periods, so didnt even know!! She had monthly bleeding throughout most of her pregnancy apparently.
So, although it is worrying...try not to think about it. Thats what I am trying to do. I am trying to think of it as implantation bleeding, or as I know I have a Fibroid, it may be the Progesterone Pessaries feeding that and that bleeding. Could be anything really, but as its not a lot I am carrying on as normal and hoping for a good test result next week...2 days before my Birthday.
I wish you all the very best, stay in bed and rest, and I hope it all works out for you.

my dr s back.

hcg went down further to 500. had proluton shots. bleeding less frequent. definitely, not all 4 embies intact. but, level shows at least 1 embryo s still there.

when d bleeding was less frequent and i started hving staff meeting at home, my worry level has drastically decreased.

still in bedrest.

p.s.
my hubby just found a new career... caregiver. love him even more.

my hcg increased slightly last Jun 4.

I was advised by my dr that ... if my hcg does not double by Jun 7 wednesday, it means I dont hv viable pregnancy and all medicine support will be stopped.

may 17 85
may 2o 331
may 23 804
may 26 780
may 29 1018 after 1st proluton
jun 1 569
jun 4 584

dont understand why my hcg increased immensely from May 17 to May 20. then, i had my bleeding. when my hcg went up after my 1st proluton shot, we thought our hcg problems have been resolved and i just have to accept the bleeding as part of my pregnancy.

now, i am more confused on why my hcg went down after my 2nd proluton. it seems proluton is not the right solution to my predicament. if its not, then how come my hcg went up after d 1st proluton.

hayyyy ! this seesaw feeling is killing me.

even my dr cant explain this hcg issue to me.

Hi Bex

Sorry to hear all you are going through. My HCG levels caused me nothing but worry in the begining. Sometimes they dont always do as they should, but it can sometimes turn out ok.
Im afraid I dont have any experience of the medication you are on, so I dont know what it is surposed to do.
I will be looking out for you and hope your HCG levels have doubled on weds.Take care.
Love Kim.
