School's almost over but this is going to be a terrible month - assessments, exams, meetings, you name it!

Hmmm - it's still so hard to imagine you scared of anything... You're always cheering everyone on but let us spoil you for a change will you?

How are you feeling? Are the mood swings better? Is it your first go at ivf?

A big hug

Rita

Thanks, that hug was just what I needed.

This is my 4th IVF cycle - I've had a weak positive before and a m/c which is why they referred me to the new hospital. Thank goodness they did because they have found out about the NK cells straightaway and we are dealing with those now.

The mood swings unfortunately are still lurking around - I seem to cry at the drop of a hate and get very angry for no reason, but hey at least for the time being I have a jolly good excuse. DH is a miracle - I don't know how he puts up with me sometimes.

I am trying to stay focused and positive, but it is easier said than done - I do know that if it's going to work then I am with the right hospital now, so fingers crossed and positive vibes!!

I don't envy you the next few weeks then - it sounds like a lot of hard work, I do hope that you have nice students.

Take care of yourself and don't work too hard - remember to have some fun when you get the chance.

Have you booked a holiday yet?

Big hugs and love

Little P

Hi Ladies

LittleP, you must be feeling a bit like a pin cushion at the moment. Are all the drugs injectibles or do you get a reprieve on some. You poor thing. I hope you are developing tonnes of lovely follies and that you will get the go ahead for EC soon. I think that our DHs are too scared to be anything but supportive....a hormonal woman is a force to be reckoned with!!

Alias and Daisy...yay holidays soon. It sucks that you have to go through such a busy month before you get there! 'At least you will be really ready for the holidays when they come around. Hope you are feeling a bit better Daisy and that both of you are enjoying that wonderful weather.

I am going to whine now.....

My clinic contacted me yesterday to ask if they could put EC back two days as they had scheduled too many ICSIs in one day. I am fine with that but then she went on to tell me that my ET would be two days later. From what I can gather, 2 day transfers are done when there are few embryos available. I guess they want to get them back in there so they have something to transfer as they may prove to be poor quality and not fit for transfer should they be left longer. I understood this on my first cycle as I only had two embies and there was no advantage to leaving them any longer but this time around I would think they would like to find out how the little blighters develop. Are they already so certain that I am only going to get a couple of embies and if so, why have they not indicated this to me in any consultation and allowed me to make a decision about further treatment. They have always told us that everything is rosy and only discovered a fertilisation issue last cycle that was probably the reason why we hadn't conceived naturally thus far. I would think that on my second treatment, regardless of the number of embryos, they would leave them for a bit longer to see how and if they develop. I feel like stopping the whole thing now and moving to another clinic (not an easy task as I live in a rural area and would have to travel 650km for treatment by another clinic). I would like to ask for my file but don't want to risk p*ssing them off in case moving to another clinic turns out not to be an option. Any suggestions ladies? Sorry for my rant, I am just really annoyed at my clinic.

Hope you are all having a great day. We have a long weekend this weekend (yay) for the Queen's birthday. Do you have this LittleP? I am not sure that it is actually her birthday but will celebrate the holiday anyway!

Cheers

This sounds very odd behaviour by your clinic and at the minimum I would ask the question why they are wanting to do a Day 2 transfer without waiting to see how many and what quality your embies are. I sincerely hope they are not just scheduling your ET to suit their diaries! Until they have done EC and waited until Day 1 to see how many fertilise etc I would have thought it would be difficult to know. It is true that clinics do make some sort of assumption of likely quality based on previous cycles (my clinic for eg will provisionally mark me down for the Day 5 blasto programme based on prior cycles, BUT this would always be dependent on how the embies were on Day 2).

Heather

OMG I hope that you get a satisfactory result from your clinic - it sounds like stress and hassle you really don't need at the moment.

It is the Queen's Unofficial Birthday this w/e but we don't get any Bank Hols to go with it - typical hey!!

Sending loads of +ve vibes your way.

Afternoon Ladies

How are you feeling LittleP, as Heather mentioned a bit like a pin cushion I should imagine. As for the mood swings, I empathize with you. Although mine have never been a product of IVF drugs, my very unwanted, unloved periods bring an array of hormonal behaviour - crying, anger, bitterness, paranoia etc etc etc. Like you say it´s amazing how the dhs can cope.

Rita, I empathize too. June sucks - tests, reports, parent teacher meetings, yuk. The only good thing is the light at the end of the tunnel getting bigger ie 3 months holiday.

Heather, you poor thing, did you ask why they want to tranfer 2 days after. Perhaps there is an element of truth in what Nicola says. Also I always thought that EC was not something that could have a set date but was very dependent on how things were developing. Perhaps you should call them up and get to the bottom of it.

Keep us informed xxx

Hi Daisy

How are you today?

It's another lovely day here which certainly helps keep the spirits up.

I hope that everyone is coping alright and not suffering in silence - let us know how you are getting on.

Hi there LP

Had to take another day off work. I feel lousy, the only prob is that I am going to have to make up classes in my own time now, which is a real bummer. To top it all AF arrived today too. I am supposed to be having a blood test on day 3 of cycle which works out to be a saturday and the labs aren´t open here at the weekend. UMMM will have to call clinic.

Did anyone happen to hear about a sterile woman in the states who thanks to ovarian tissue transplant from her twin sister has had a baby. It´s amazing how IVF etc has evolved. My sister had IVF treatment 15 years ago, unfortunately it didn´t work for her (she only tried once but now has 2 of the most gorgeous children I know by adoption). Anyway EC and ET was done under general anesthetic and by cutting, she still has the scares to show for it.

Also saw a report here on Spanish TV that green tea for all it´s benefits is not good for pregnant women and foetus´ but it´s so hard to know what to believe and what not.

Hope everyone is well

besos

Interesting about the green tea - I read that too in the UK. I drink organic green tea during the day (trying to cut the PG Tips down to 2 a day) as I read that caffeine is to be avoided whilst ttc. Green tea is also very good for you - full of antioxidants. It's very difficult to know what to do when you read these conflicting things. The great (?) thing about IVF though is that you know immediately when you become pg, so you are in a position to give up straightaway those things that could possibly be harmful. I have a friend who conceived naturally but didn't know for 6 weeks (during which time she partied madly imbibing and inhaling god knows what!).

Nicola - In case you didn´t see my post on the work and IVF thread have a great time in joli Paris. If you´re back already I hope you had a fab time!!!!

From what I have read and been advised by you ladies caffeine is not good for our friendly little sperm and by all accounts decaf isn´t much better but is that just because of the liver having to detoxify it or is it bad for our little sperm friends too? ie would it be better for dh to have a decaf than a normal? (he says could get used to the decaf if need be). I feel so sorry for him since I´ve forced him to stop smoking, drinking, nearly there with the caffeine and make him eat vegetables with his dinner AND take his vit supplements. I tell you I feel like a mum already, when it is my turn, I´ll have it down to a T!!!!!!!

Hi Daisy ...

I've read the decaffeinated / liver info in Zita's book.

I've also read something else recently, in another book .... It says the switching to decaff is not the same as quitting, since decaff stil contains caffeine. In addition, most coffees are decaffeinated with methylene chloride, a carcinogen (a substance believed or known to cause cancer), which you then ingest with your decreased caffeine.

It goes on to say that the only exception is Swiss water-processed decaffeinated coffee ...

I may have to check this out, as I surely can't live without my coffee .... Maybe it's hundreds of £s per jar ..!!

I don't know Daisy ... but on that basis, maybe the caffeine is the better option ?
