Thanks Alette you are right

trouble is that at the moment we only have one car, and dh has some really good new business in Hamburg which is fantastic, but that leaves me stuck here with no way of getting out of the village - there's nothing here, and we live in the old pub! Will be much better in a couple of weeks when we get an old run around car on the road. Then I can go to the beach, the shops, meet friends

Going to the beach today when dh gets back from work 8)

Loads of sunshine to you

Julie, what about one of those bra-extender things? you can buy them in most shops that sell bras and definitely in lingerie shops. They're cheap and extend the bra by about 4cm.

You can't be uncomfortable until your scan, what about some things from DH's wardrobe for a few weeks? Talking of which.....Sweetheart, you're pregnant, start to enjoy it :) . The worries never stop, never, so you'll have to start to live with them. We all just swap one set of concerns for the next. Your scan is weeks away, you can't be in torment all that time so get in practice for taking it easy and positive thinking. I'm being very bossy here because I know exactly how easy it is to ruin a pregnancy with worries. I didn't stop all through my perfectly healthy pregnancy with Maya.

I hope the 2nd car helps get you out of the village! the beaches sound sublime...I'd love to live near the sea... I guess with the dogs, cycling is out of the question????

hugs

Got my doppler this week and have been listening to the twins every night, and recording their heart-rate. Expensive - but worth it!

Hi all

We had our 12 week scan yesterday and the twins are doing fine - bouncing around all over the place.

This was a great relief as I had had a second bout of light spotting about 6 weeks earlier & had decided not to go back for another scan (both lots of spotting occured about 2/3 days after a vaginal scan) as I felt that if anything had gone wrong there was nothing I could about it now.

Sonographer kept telling me to relax my tummy muscles - difficult when somebody is pushing down on your full bladder!

My blood pressure is bordering on high so I have to get it checked again in 2 weeks. Otherwise my next scan is in 8 weeks.

We were there all morning as we also had a 'booking in' appointment & blood/urine tests with the midwife and had a chat with the doctor. DH had to keep running out to add another hour to the car parking ticket

On the plus side, the doctor said there was no problem with me having my roots & highlights done :D in fact she thought I was mad for asking.

Have finally made it official at work & have been boring everyone with a picture of the scan.

Only 2 more weeks & I 'm off the meds & will feel 'properly' pregnant.

BigJ - didn't you have your 6 week scan yesterday? How did it go?

Good news Jude!!

Are you staying in the hospital?

I am under control of the midwife now and I must say I am not really happy about these arrangements; I am treated like I am a normal pregnant person (that is okay) but they forget I am 41 .... these stupid expectations to give birth at home (I am giving birth in the hospital) and besides that I am not given extra scans... Next time I will see her, in about 3 weeks, I will ask her for an extra scan at 24 weeks...

Thanks Alette, hope you are well and not feeling too'fat' yet

Over here you tend to have shared caring between your GP and the hospital midwife/obstetrician.

They did say that due to age/twins that I'd probably have most if not all my appointments at the hospital which is fine by me.

The midwife is slightly younger than me but a lovely lady so I'm very happy with the treatment so far. In fact I pushed my GP to refer me to Kingston hospital as a friend had her baby there & it has a good reputation.

Its your pregnancy - tell them what you want.

Hi girls

I am so sorry I haven't posted, I know you have been worried and you are so sweet to worry.

We had our scan Tuesday afternoon, all went well, one little tapas baby 1.8mm and faint chance that there was heartbeat (too early really). Then disaster struck Tuesday night, went for a pee and was bleedling lots of bright red blood, not spotting but bleeding. Basically we didn't sleep for the rest of the night and I was convinced we had lost it. DH was wonderful and positive and said it must have been the vaginal scan and the internal examination. First thing Wed I was at the gynae for an emergency appt by which time bleeding had stopped. She did another sacn and all was still there      and looking quite fine, and she is convinced it was the internal examination. What I hadn't realised at the time was the other gynae on Tuesday had taken a swab to test for chlamidya   Obviously we had all those tests and a full cancer screen BEFORE ET to avoid just that   Anyway, a warning to me that over zealous gynaes need to be kept in line. They wont be doing anything to me now that I don't know about and discuss with them first. I think the second gynae (my normal one) was a bit suprised that the test had been done, although she didn't say so.

So phew!! first nightmare out of the way, everything back to normal, no more bleeding just strict rest for a week. Next scan 17th June.

Jude- glad things are going so well, you must be so excited to have your sweerties bouncing around   Interesting that you had spotting after vaginal scans, I didn't get any bleeding after the second scan on Wednesday, but I know she was very careful.

Alette - home birth   sounds like you ne4ed to give them a bit of a talking to about mature mums!!! I am being very lucky with scans here as the machine is in the gynae practice not a hospital so I seem to be able to get them whenever I want...not that I want too many more after last time

Joy you are brave with the doppler, must be an amazing experience!! wont you worry if you can't hear them one night????

Caroline how are U????

Thanks for bossing me about D - I bought 3 pairs of jogging trousers in a sale on Saturday, quite nice ones with flared bottoms, so at least I am comfortable for home / casual. Jeans still fit but not for much longer (I hope  )

Susie - thanks for asking how I am that's very sweet

Will be back more over the next few days

thinking of you all loads

Love and hugs

BigJ

Lovely to hear from you

Spotting/bleeding is very scary but seems to be quite common. I think that maybe some sonographers go at it with a little too much enthusiasm when carrying out a vaginal scan & this can cause the bleeding/spotting.

Glad to hear that all is well now and but you must make sure you rest up. I know its hard, I was up every few minutes to go to the loo & check there was no more bleeding. I don't think I've ever examined loo roll in such detail

Try not to worry too much, the follow up scan has shown that everything is still fine.

Like you, my clothes are now getting far too tight. DH took me shopping after my scan & I bought 2 pairs of drawstring linen trouers for the summer. Felt sooo fat as I had to buy UK size 16 (I'm normally a 12) & wanted to shout at the snotty shop assistants that I wasn't fat I was pregnant - with twins! Boobs have grown too, when even a size 16 top felt tight I gave up & nearly burst into tears. I want to get to the stage where I can wear proper maternity clothes & look pregnant - maybe that way I'll get a seat on the train.

Take care BigJ.

Love

oh big J, what a horror ha!
and we will be worrying all the time!
there is nothing we can do, can we?
except for eating healthy and doing no stupid things...

these first 12 weeks seemed to go sooooooooo slowly...

I am also getting fat and I like it!
already bought a lot of maternaty things for the only thing that is really growing now (from week 14) is my belly (and boobs but I already had, from my previous pregnancy which ended in a miscarriage, maternity bras).

in the first 12 weeks, I only lost weight, really I could not eat. I tried but I could not. Everything tasted so strange.
In week 13 my appetite returned but this weird taste in my mouth stayed. I still have a strange taste in my mouth, like rotten cheese or metal.
I understood this will be over once the baby is out, so it is for good purpose...
now, week 16, I gained 2 kilograms.
somehow I would like to be fatter but on the other hand, once the baby is out, I would not really like to be 85 kilograms and be a fatty. I never was thick!
My sister on the other hand gained more than 30 kilo's during her first baby and now, she is due first week July she already gained 25! I like her wobbling through the house with her big belly. We are teasing her that she will give birth to a really big baby!

my next appointment is next week monday, just to hear the heartbeat, I am still thinking of hiring a bellytalk.. on the other hand, I am afraid... I will be so obsessed with the heartbeat...

keep in touch!

Alette - lucky you, only putting on 2 kilos so far. I've put on over a stone already, was feeling guilty but then found out that with twins they like you to put on a pound a week for the first 24 weeks then a pound and a half a week for the rest, so I'm only a couple of pounds over!

BigJ - bleeding is a nightmare, you just feel so powerless. Glad it has stopped and baby is fine.

Love my doppler - hear the twins every night. Sometimes they move around, but I just leave it for an hour and try again - never failed to get a heartbeat yet, but if I did I'd just wait a day and try again. Also recording heart-rate. One is always around 150 and the other is usually around 140. Midwife and doctor say it is safe to listen every day.

Jude - I've been in maternity clothes since 10 weeks pregnant. Found a shop where I am the smallest in the - Evans! The have some great drawstring trousers in the petit section for shorties like me. And M&S do some great maternity tights - not looking forward to wearing tights in the summer, but I am at risk of varicose veins so have to be careful.

Got my 'baby on board' badge from London Transport - and it works - def. get offered a seat more often with badge on. Not sure why other commuters respond to a badge - I am very obviously pregnant!

Only another couple of weeks and I can find out the sex - I think it is two girls........................

Hello All

I am monitoring all your progress on a weekly basis and glad to see I am not alone on most of the subjects mentioned.

I am now 14 weeks and find myself with nothing else to worry about except my expanding waist line and boobs. According to my scales I have gained 4lbs (2kgs) but my shape has changed completely. I have an early 16 week check with the midwife next Thursday who will no doubt weigh me accurately - OMG!

I am in maternity clothes at the weekend for comfort, but still squeezing into my work clothes during the week. My client will be told of my pregnancy next week, and when I return from a break in Cornwall the week after next I will be in full office maternity gear (friends have donated well)!

Fathers Day next Sunday (18th June) and I have found DH a 'Dad to be' card - (inside says 'You've got so much to look foward to - your going to be a great dad! ) - I weeped buckets in Tesco's when paying for it - cant wait to give it to him, he will be chuffed to bits.

Alette, Jude, BigJ, Joy - I seem to be in the middle weeks of your pregnancies so I know what I have left behind and a hint of whats coming up.

Look forward to your updates - BTW still knackered in the evenings and need a sleep on weekend afternoons - but I thinks thats my age!
