Hello everyone just found this site and wish I had found it weeks ago! I have just completed my fist IVF attempt which failed, I started spoting last Thursday but was flooded off my feet on Sunday! Test was Monday to confim no pregnancy. A good bit of news was I bumped into the girl who was in the next bed who was haveing ICSI which had resulted in a pregnancy for her!

Looking on the bright side however I do have another attempt at IVF on the NHS but I thought I would look into the options available beyond this. The clinic and NHS I go to does not offer IUI but I have just read about it and was wanting to know other peoples experience and a rough cost?

I think It may be suitable for my circumstances as I am nearly 30 ( husband 31) both of us have been checked and have unexplained infertility. I have had two normal pregnancys in the last 4 years both resulted in miscarrage. I produced 23 eggs during IVF resulting in 16 embryos however none were suitable for freezing (don't know if any of this is good).

Any advice etc welcome.

Thanks

Anna
Hi Anna

'Fraid I don't know much about IUI but just wanted to say hi because our stories sound almost identical. Me and DH both checked and nothing wrong with either of us and we too have had two natural pg's in the last 3 years that ended in MC. Also just had our first attempt at IVF which failed. With no frosties to fall back on we have to start from scratch hopefully in the new year.
Must admit that having been pg before I though we would be prime candidates for luck first time around on the old IVF route, but seems it's not that easy.

Anyway, welcome to the site and I'm sure there's bound to be someone on here that can answer your questions.

LOL
Terri
xxxx
Thanks Terri you sometimes feel as if you are the only one! Everyone else is popping kids out left right and centre! I thought the same as you it would probably work first time.

I am trying to be sensible and don't want to get to the point of throwing every penny I earn at this, as I think that in itself can become a problem, but thought I would at least look at the options IUI looks interesting and it is supposed to be cheeper than IVF but I don't know how much?

I am waiting for a clinic to rig me back with some info.

Anna
Hi Anna,

I am undergoing my first IUI. We were considered for IUI as we have been ttc for 3 years now and have unexplained infertility.
It is much cheaper than IVF. At my clinic they charge around £3,000 for IVF whereas assisted IUI is £550. This does not include all the drugs you have to buy as well.

IUI is less invasive than IVF however the success rate for IUI is lower, I think and don't quote me on this I was told it was about 18% for IUI compared to 25% for IVF.

Best of luck in whatever you decide to do.
Chrissi
hi anna,
Firstly, welcome to the board, glad you found your way here.
I've just had IUI, did have a positive hpt, but unfortunately i had a very early miscarraige, but at least i know that the IUI did work, and i can get pregnant.
Our clinic, the Cromwell, in Swansea, charged us £1300 for IUI, including drugs, but i suppose each clinic is different and have their own prices. Oh, forgot to say, that £300 of that was for donor sperm as we decided to use a donor, so the atual IUI with drugs only cost £1000. I know that sounds like a lot, but it doesnt come into it if it actually works, does it?
We have had to take out a loan to cover the cost of our treatment, and we have some left for another go, if that's what we decide we are going to do. Our clinic told us that there is a 25% chance of a pregnancy with IUI, increaseing with each attempt.
Hope that whatever you decide to do goes well, and keep us posted.
Love,
Heather xxx
Got pregnant with IUI triplets in March 04. One triplet stopped growing at 9 weeks. Gave birth to twin boys in Sep 04, Ciaran sadly lost his fight. Brennan's thriving.Looking to give Brennan a sibling soon.

Hi Anna,

I'm due to have IUI in the new year. We've been offered 3 attempts on the NHS. However the consultant was advising us of the cost of treatment in the event of failure and us having to go private. She told us that IVF would cost £2500 and that IUI would cost £350. She made no mention of this not including the drugs, however when you compare it to the costs that Heather and Chrissi have mentioned, there seems to be a massive difference!

Anyway, good luck with whatever you decide to do.

Take care all,
Suzanne.x
