Hi Folks,
Scorry here on the dreaded 2ww (D-Day Fri 13th - funnily enough)!! After reading some of the questions and answers on this site, I've become a bit confused(happens alot) re; what exactly is a good quality embryo. The 2 that they put back in moi, last Thurs were a 4 cell and a 5 cell, how good or bad is that?

Hi there

I think there is a group of us testing on Friday 13th now!
I have just had an FET where they put in three embyros consisting of one with four cells and the other two with only two cells. The embryos lost some cells during the defrosting process.

When they froze mine they were Grade 1, eight cells but although this sounded like the best quality they didn't take. The doctor said that as long as they had two cells to divide there was still a chance that it might work.

It anyones guess as to why some embryos take and some don't.

Good luck with 2ww
lol
Lissa
xx
Hi Scorry,

We too had our treatment in Aberdeen, and have been lucky enough to have been succesful with ICSI and now have twins. The important things about the eggs seemed to be if the cells had divided, I think ours were only 4'ish at that point but they also mentioned that there were no tears or deformities in the outside ring. Did you watch them on the screen before they implanted them? We did and that was when they explained about the quality factors. sorry if that ain't much help but how are things in sunny!!! shetland....been up there a couple of times with work and don't envy you the travelling back and forth at this time of year....a sideways landing at Sumburgh is better than Alton Towers!!

Good luck with your 2ww it will go faster than you think.

Nicky
Hi Nicky and Lissa, thanks for replying, I think there's 3-4 of us testing on the 13th, I'm going round the bend and I woke up with Boobs like Dolly Parton this morning!(prog. pessaries)! We had a nightmare journey back to Shetland after the implantation, 20hours instead of 12, don't know why we bothered with a cabin, my husband spent most of the journey in the toilet and I was hanging over the side of the bunk with my head in the waste paper basket crying my eyes out in between bouts of vomiting. Weather has been so bad there have been no sailings to or from Aberdeen since!
It's nice to talk to someone with a success story who also attended the Aberdeen clinic, we also had ICSI. Yes, we saw them on the screen, it made it more real.
Best of luck Lissa

Scorry

[Edited by scorry on 03-Dec-02 13:31]

Hi scorry another member of the fri 13th clan here.Cant really be very helpfull but just wanted to let you know my 2 embies were 4 cells aswell, did look at them on the screen but didnt really take anything in they were telling me, was to nervous to concentrate.Really glad you asked this question will read everyone elses advice.
Love
Amanda
Hi i had 10 eggs ,4 of which fertilized,on the day of e/t they said i had 3 grade 1,s and the other one was fragmented so it was no good basically.
Mine were all 4 cells and i am pretty sure they are graded on (not so much the cell division)but but if the divides are rounded and unbroken.
I did look at mine ,i actually thought they were pretty cute(how sad am i).
Mind you i was out of it on diazapan(find e/t so nerving i cant relax).
I guess whatever embies are put back have just a good chance as the next.
GOOOOOD LLUUUUUCCCKKK
To all us fri 13th testers
love to everyone
sammyxxxxxxxx
p.s im going back to work tommorow, sure going to miss those little naps.
hi scorry, havnt said hello before.Im glad all went ok for you.
Bet its nice to be back home.Cor you really have to do some travelling.I,ve everything crossed for you.
Its quite ironic now how many of us are testing on the 13th
take care
love sammyxxxxxxxxxx
First of all - good luck to everyone testing on Friday 13!

When we had our IVF in August, the embryologist told us that of the 4 embryos we had, 3 were grade 2 and 1 was grade 4 - so they implanted the three best ones, (unfortunately it didn't work, so we're going to hop back onto the 'crazy train' early next year).

Apparently, grade 1 is the best sort to have, and grade 5 is the worst ... but she did say that it's mainly women under that age of 35 who get grade 1 embryos, and then they only tend to get one of them, with the rest being grade 2 and below. How much of that was to make me feel better, as I'm 37, I don't know!

Hope this helps.

Andrea
<><
Dear All

This whole embryo grading really gets your knickers in a twist and I have tried to find out everything I can about it.
Unfortunatly I have been popping into this site for a year now and have seen girls get pregnant with all sorts of grade embryos. So try not to read to much into it. All clinics grade differantly.
We have male factor infertility and produce great embryos grade 1/2 and have even made it to the blast stage but I am still about to go for my 6th attempt in January.
I have this theory that it is not the egg or embryo quality but the nest that they are put back into!
Best of luck to all
Lucy
Thought I would "pop" my comment onto this thread - with all you Friday 13th-ers.
"Friday 13th" is a GOOD omen - I passed my driving test on that day - Good luck to all

lisa xxx
Many Thanks to everyone who replied to my question, so to summarise: It's all just really a lottery for all of us!! All the very best to the girls testing on the dreaded Friday 13th, it can't come soon enough, at least then we can all try to get some kind of normality back to our lives.
Scorry x
