IVF, any of you with 50% ICSI / 50% standard?

Post by jetperf »

Hi, I am new to this site and preparing for my first IVF. As I live in the middle east, I am cross-checking 2-3 things (about the procedure) before I get started... Of course we checked to different centers with different methodes... Your experience can help me

(TTC 3.5 years, 5 fert. treat (3 art. ins.), unexplained infertility)

- Dr suggest 50% ICSI / 50% normal of potential eggs retrieved. I was a bit surprised... Never heard before of "preemptive ICSI" in case of no natural fertilisation... What about you?

- As I am light (165cm / 43kg/90lbs) Dr will not use Decapeptyl but Letrozol... any similar experience?

thank you for sharing your esperience!

Hi there ... I've just replied to you on the other forum !!

ICSI is a very common method of fertilisation, and many on this site are / have gone down that route. It's used when there is a male fertility issue.

If your dr is suggesting a 50/50 split - ICSI / standard IVF - this suggests there is a possibility of 'normal' fertilisation.

Good luck

I hope you can get some answers and I sorry I cant help. Perhaps they are confident they can achieve a high number of follicles with you or perhaps this is a good idea but mopst clinics dont do it because of teh cost. ICSI is so much more expensive ie. if natural fert. works and is slightly more succesful and is cheaper, why do ICSi. Yet incase natural isnt succesful for you and you have a large no. of follies then why not do ICsi tooas a precaution?

Maybe there is a question over quaility of swimmers? Not bad but not good?(I am ICSI)

Sorry for rambling on........good luck with it all :D

Hi

I was on an ICSI cycle because they were originally using fresh sperm (My DH had chemotherapy several years ago, so had severe male factor).
He also had some frozen sperm taken prior to his treatment which they decided to use instead for some reason. They said it was v.good quality and because we had 12 eggs, did we want to try half IVF\half ICSI.
None of the IVF fertilised. 4 of the ICSI did. I had 2 good embryos which were transfered. I am now pregnant with 1. If we had just had IVF we would have had none. There were no answers for why they didnt fertilise.
The embryologist was surprised. If they are suggesting ICSI I would seriously consider it.
Good luck with your treatment

Many thanks for your information!

I just wander that some Dr suggest to do 50% ICSI (at the same cost...! :? ) of the eggs that would be collected, and some other not...
maybe she wants to train someone to do ICSI???

I am just a little bit cautious with the local "know how..." or methods

Hi "jetperf"

Our experience was that we were told dh sperm was great, but we did ICSI any way using donor eggs from a 23 year-old donor. However we only had 3 fertilise, so if we had done normal we would have had none. I would go for ICSI every time even tought the cost is extra, the cost and stress of repeating the whole cycle is far worse.

Hi there and welcome

Just wanted to confirm that the two hospitals I have used were keen on a 50/50 split. It gives you the best of both worlds apparently.

We don't have male issues I have high levels of NK cells but they were very keen on doing a split with our eggs - we did do it and we had a very good response to both IVF and ICSI.

I wish you loads of luck
