Reliability of Home Pregnancy test kits

Post by padme »

Hi, sorry to jump into this thread like this but I would like to know whether a positive home pregnancy test reading two days before the 2ww is reliable? Has anyone had a positive hpt reading before the blood test, but for the blood test the result was negative? Would the hormonal pills / injections / pessaries we are using result in a false positive on a hpt?

Thanks for sharing!

I tested 3 days before clinic test, it showed positive, and later the blood test confirmed it. So I guest it's reliable. But everyone's HCG level is different. Some have low level which HPT can't detect but the blood test can. If HPT shows positive, most the case the result is true.

Good luck.

Hi HM, thanks for sharing your experience. I, like many others, could not resist the temptation of doing the test at home, 10 days after my FET (blastocyst) - the positive marking was faint so I'm still not quite convinced that it was a true positive reading, but I told myself not to get more test kits and to wait patiently for the blood test instead. The mental torture is just too great! In the meantime I'll just try and take my mind off it - it's not easy but it's great to read through the inspiring and encouraging words of the other forumers here.

Thanks so much to everyone here for making things a lot easier for me.

sincerely,
padme

I feel it for you. I was there not long ago. Even the faint sign still good enough for you to enjoy and relax for the 2 waiting days. I slept much better after knowing that the hope was there, all the pains and discomfort had gone. I also told myself not to test any more at home, but the morning before the blood test, my took another HPT, the faint sign appeared again. I couldn't restrain myself from doing it. I just wanted to prepare myself metally for the offical result. So relax, you just have 2 days to go.

Enjoy every moment when you feel good. Best best luck, I know you can do it.

Hi Padme

It does sound like good news if it is showing a faint positive. I will keep my finger crossed for you that you get a BFP (Big fat positive!) on monday.
Then you can come and join in the first trimester thread!
Good luck!

Hi,
I've also been led to believe that HPT's can show false negatives, but not false positives, so in other words..sounds like you have a BFP to me!!

Oh gosh, thanks ladies for your support and encouragement - I'm so glad I found this forum! It really is a huge relief to be able to finally share my experiences, worries and fears with those who understand exactly what I mean - a huge bouquet to all of you! :D

I'm now keen to test again, perhaps the morning before - like HM I just want to be prepared. Hopefully the result on the hpt will be a little more distinct this time!

Love all of you, and best of luck to all.

sincerely,
padme

Padme

I like a coupleof the others have been told that you don't get false positives unless you test in the first 7 days (because of the trigger injection!) - looks like it's sounding good :D

Keeping my fingers crossed.

Just want to add, I did a HPT the night before my 2ww was up and it showed negitive, however the blood test and HCG levels told a different story the nest day and I was pg and at 8 weeks I found out it was twins. My clinic said that this was often the case.
