HI-
I was wondering if anyone out there has had acupuncture with their IVF or FET cycle and have been successful. After my - ve in JUne, I will try anything(within limits!) I am going to a woman associated with my clinic and have had 2 sessions so far. I had a "Hystoscopy"- flushing out of the uterus" 2 days ago and I am having some slight bleeding so I am a little concerned... That wasn't fun at all. My inlaws are in town and it has been a little difficult because their daughter gave birth in Feb to a little girl. SIL is my age and that makes it a little difficult. Thanks for any advice any can give. OH,,, Is anyone taking herbs or drinking special tea?
I had a -ve in June too and am up for trying different options. I would also be interested in peoples accupuncture experience. What is a Hystoscopy? Sounds nasty!
I am trying to follow Dr Gillian McKeiths 'You are what you eat' to try and regulate the diet, I have also read a good book called The Phyto Factor by Maryon Stewart which talks about how foods like can balance hormones. Its all worth a try. As for special teas... fruity teas are tops for me and hot water with a slice of lemon in the morning, yummy.
Oh dear what is happening to me!?

Is anyone else out there considering accupuncture or has had it?? this thread seems to be very quiet. I would have thought that given Zita's reccomendations that someone must have tried it?

Hi girls ... I've now had 5 weekly acupuncture sessions. I went, obv., due to not conceiving, but she said that until my energy levels as a whole rise, she's not even going think about the uterus ..! I'm always tired, so not really thought much about it ..
When I went last night she told me that she can feel my energy levels having risen, although I can't yet feel anything. She reckon's it's like someone bulding a house on the next street - the builders are building every day, and you don't notice any change until one day it suddenly hits you that the house is built.
That'd be lovely - We'll see !

I didnt realise that clinics have accupuncturists linked to them? I have a follow up appointment in a few weeks so I will ask them if they can recommend someone. I am near Birmingham, does anyone know of a good one?
Thanks

I also answered Jodi's post on the introductions site. I had acupuncture, my first IVF\ICSI and got a positive. I would definatly reccommend it. Once the needles are in its very relaxing too!
Good luck with your treatment.

Sandra - does she check your pulse? my acu doc says she feels cold running through my body said it is getting better but we have a lot of work to do and she is very happy I did not go for a July cycle but waiting until Sept. She wants to do alot more work on me. I really believe in what she says because it all just links together and is pretty amazing.
I don't like the needles going in at all but the last time (yesterday) it went much better and I fell asleep bigtime!! I woke up and didn't even know where I was ....but I was also very tired.
I have new herbs/medicine I picked up today...smells like curry
I also had a -ve result for June. I am booked in to have acupuncture next week - I am also having a FET (hopefully!!!). I will give anything ago at this point. Worst case scenario & I will just end up nice and relaxed.

Hi Traci .. Yes, she always does the pulse thing - and somehow gets 3 or 4 different readings from it (?!?) .. upper / middle / lower / bladder energies .. something or other. She said that they're all starting to rise now, so she can concentrate on the uterus energy.
I'm trying to best to believe in it all, but most admit I'm finding it pretty hard. I'm just waiting for that day when it all clicks into place !
How long are your needles left in ..? Mine are about 15-20 mins. Last week she put one in my lower calf, and I could feel the spot for about 4 days. She said this was a good sign. ?!?
We'll see !
The curry smeling herb sounds good (I'm a curry freak). What it is ?

Hi sandra
My needles were left for approx 15-20 mins as well.
Some of my acupuncture spots used to be sore after for a while. My hands (between thumb and finger) and also, because I also have problems with my right hip, (I had a condition called perthes disease when I was a child) my thigh, which was especially painful during treatment and sore for a while after. It certainly cured my hip pain though (for now anyway) so I am totally converted to acupuncture.
I also felt v.relaxed and calm. She also did pulse and tongue diagnosis, and I could tell my pulse became slower during treatment.
Im probably also convinced because I got a positive. She had also treated other women going through IVF, only approx 4 of us I think (Shes only been practising for a year) but we had all become pregnant....
Good luck with your next treatment.

Im starting my first IVF in July and ive been having accupcture for 6 weeks now. I was quite sceptical about it, however I always feel very calm for a few days afterwards so I guess it must be doing something. I dont find it relaxing at the time though, I seem to lay on the table as stiff as a board, but it does get easier each time and im willing to give anything a go
I drink lots of water and also green tea if im honest though I could kill for a bottle of wine at the moment

Hi Kim .. Thanks for your post. It reassures me when I hear that others are convinced it's helping .. I will keep going for another few weeks, and hope to feel the benefit at some point.
As you say, Gail, I don't find it relaxing at the time ....
We'll see !

Just to add that I too have started acu in readiness for my 3rd attempt. I don’t find it that relaxing, especially because I have very sensitive skin so feel the needles coming in – also taking them out a couple of times I tend to bleed (similar reaction to when I self-inject my IVF drugs). That said, I try to relax when he leaves me for 15/20 mins and I have even drifted off to sleep on one occasion. I don’t have any real issues that my acu guy can help with (our problem is male factor combined with killer cells) but he will work to improve on what is pretty OK already and on the basis that it can’t do me any harm, I think it’s worth trying. He’s also very clued up about the whole IVF process (he is linked with the ARGC though I am not treated there) and I always take in my basal temperature charts to show him as they give him a very clear idea of how my cycle is progressing, which I find reassuring. He’s also given me a few tips for next time to help ease the mild OHSS symptoms I suffered last cycle, so it’s money well spent in my opinion.
I really want to do acupuncture before I start my first cycle but I can`t find anywhere that specializes in the IVF area. Is it worth going to one who doesn`t specialize? I know it won`t do any harm but will it be a waste of money?
