HELP! HPT????

Post by lumi »

Hi girls

I am after some advice. I am due to test on Tuesday but DH is going away on Sunday for the week. This is completey unavoidable, we are both very annoyed and looked at all the options for him to not go, but he is and that is that.

However, what do we do? Should I HPT on Sunday together? I havent had a HCG injection so I cant get a false +ve.

We really wanted not to HPT this time, but maybe it is best?

Or do I test alone and have him on the end of line when the doctor calls with our results?

DH suggested I dont test until Friday when he is back. That would be awful! A 2 1/2 ww!!!

I am not so much worried about the result, as surviving Sunday and Monday without him. :( I feel very bad for him, as I know he wants to stay but he's between a rock and a hard place. He is also so excited about the result.

Any advice would be appreciated. :?

If you are due to test on Tuesday, that's when I'd do it. Unless you think you cannot bear to hear the test results without him that it. I had to do a HPT which I did on my own. Then went quietly to DH (still sleeping) and told him results. When I went for the bloodtest I went alone and didn't tell him the results until he got home that night. But that's just me - I even went for ET on my own! I'd be quite OK testing alone and then giving DH the news on the phone myself.

Given that you've not taken an HCG though I guess you could test early but personally speaking I'd prefer to wait the extra 2 days. Maybe a false +ve is not possible - but it could be a false -ve and I'd find that just as painful.

Hi Lumi,

I would do the test on tuesday. Since Dh won't be there, it will be terrible for you to wait till tuesady. What ever be the result, you can tell him on Friday. Atleast internally, you don't need to be anxious and not know what to do. Or least if you don't want to do the blood on tuesday, get the kit and find out. Many times these kits are also accurate.
I know its hard, but I don't think I can wait till next friday.
But be sure to yourself that its your year and its going to be a BFP.

What a horrid dilemma - I wish I could give you some advice but really don't feel I have the right to say which way you should go. Deep down you know how you want to deal with this and you should always follow your heart.

Whatever you decide know that we are all here routing for you and wishing you loads of love, hugs and +ve vibes.

Keep the PMA up

First of all - are you ok, as you're in London. You probably won't see this til you're back from work and that will be hours by sound of the transport chaos. Hope you're unaffected and have a relatively stress free journey home.

About your HPT dillemma - I've been wondering how early I could test as I have to use an HPT. I'm supposed to wait 14 days but you can test after 12 days with a blood test, so my guess is that the blood test is more sensitive. I asked a nurse at the clinic today and she said I could try a week after EC but it might be too early - bear in mind that would be Tues for me, as I had a day 2 transfer. I mentioned your situation and she said she thought it probably would be a bit early but everyone is different. As others have said the danger is of a false -ve.

I think what it boils down to is how much do you think you'll be able to convince yourselves that a negative on Sunday might not be negative. Will you be able to keep positive for another couple of days? And will he? If you think you can, then you haven't really got anything to lose and might get to celebrate together. On the other hand, if you think one or both of you will get really despondent and give up hope (especially without the other's support) then it might be worth hanging on a few more days. I'm still wondering whether to try on Tues or Wed or wait til Thursday because of the same dilemma (though DH isn't going anywhere) and I think it's a very personal decision.

If it were me, then an even more serious consideration would be, given that you have this enforced separation, how are you each going to get the support you need in the run up to the test - and afterwards if (and let's hope this isn't the case) but if it's not good news. You've got us, but have you also got friends or family on hand who can give you an actual hug. And what sort of support will DH get, away from home? How much can you arrange to speak to each other? Has he got a colleague he can confide in? Get those things in place because whether you test or not on Sunday, you may need to test again on Tuesday.

BTW I agree with others, it's a nice idea to be there together but I don't think you can be expected to wait til Friday.

Good luck whatever you decide

Thanks so much everyone. I am okay - I work/live quite a way o ut of London. I teach and term is over, so I have pottered about in school today but home now.

I have to say that all the chaos in London has put everything into perspective. Here I am worrying about, basically, my feelings and all those people are suffering and even losing relatives. Reality check for me!

I think I will wait until Tuesday, as planned. My main fear is a false negative so that can be avoided if I go for my normal blood test then. It would be lovely to get a +ve together on Sun, or a definite -ve, but I dont think I'll risk it. I cant get false +ve - no HCG injection.

DH has left all this to me. He will go along with what ever I want, bless him. I think I will be posting lots and lots on Monday!!! I know he will be on the phone loads on Tuesday (even though he is literally 1000;s of miles away :( )

SO, I wont buy a HPT. I can always go and buy one on Sunday morning if we change our minds.

Lots of love and thanks Lumi

ps as I hpt last time, I have bad feelings about them

Hi Lumi

What a choice.

I did a HPT and my hospital are ok with that (use clear blue though they suggest) Also Maci and I had EC and ET the same day and she tested two days before me and got a +ve. So I think (my opinion only - and of course Little p is right you know what is best for you) I would do a HPT on sunday but maybe test tuesday as well what ever the result sunday.

One thing is for sure you can't wait till friday that would just turn you mad

Good luck and look forward to seeing a BFP whatever day you decided to test

Love

We'll be here to give as much moral and cyber support as possible - I know it's not the same as having DH there to hug you and hold you when you need him, but we will do our best to keep your spirits lifted and positive.

Love and hugs

Gosh Lumi ... After reading all the posts and advice I think you've made the choice I'd have made. There is absolutely no point in testing on Sunday, and still wondering if the results correct.

Just think how elate dh will be on Tues when he phones you for the result ...

Lots of PMA

lumi-
i was going to just add a little note.... most HPT only measure 50 units of HCG, and there can be positives with less then that.... so even if you get a -ve HPT, it still can be a +ve with blood...

Oh my gosh!!!! I have just read statistics on First Response early test kits and THERE IS NO WAY I AM GOING TO HPT!!!!!!! If I understand correctly, they only detect a +ve in about 1/2 of pregnant women 3 days before period due. I need a 99% accuracy result!!!

I had assumed early test kits were accurate too. OH DEAR.........
