My First Scan!!!!!!

Post by Sarah30 »

Hellooooooooo

sorry didn't post last night, didn't get back till late, then dh had his sister on the phone for 1½ hours so couldn't get online.

Well

Scan went absolutely fine - consultant said baby (just the one) looked perfect and heart was beating strongly.

Wasn't quite what I expected, he was finished in no time and all he pointed out was the heart and the head - couldn't really see much else, was quite fuzzy.

I thought it would be a very emotional moment, but strangely we both just sat there (or lie there in my case) staring at the screen. I still really don't think it has quite sunk in. Am I wierd or what!!

Got a second scan booked for 3rd Jan to have the down syndrome scan and check measurements and stuff - they said that scan would be a lot clearer and the baby would be bigger, so easier to see. Got a couple of little photos, but can't see much on them.

Am sooooooooooooo glad that's done and everything is ok - maybe can try and relax a bit now.

Couldn't stop seeing the picture in my head last night, didn't get to sleep for hours!

aaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhh what a relief.

Love Sarah x

Well done Sarah30 you must be relieved now. I am having scan biweekly at the moment as I am having twins. My next scan is next week where I will be 11 weeks. I just can't wait to get to the 12 weeks mark. How are you feeling?

My First Scan!!!!!!

Post by Sarah30 »

Hello Pru and Michelle

pru - am feeling suprisingly well at the moment - for the last week and a half I've been feeling queasy on and off all day and evening but for the last 3 days - nothing! so am wondering if it's passed. Apart from that I still feel really normal, which is one of the reasons i was desperate for the scan as the last few days I've been worried that it's all stopped- thank god not!
Congratulations on the twin by the way. I was sort of sad only to see one little baby but in another strange way slightly relieved. Am just so happy that I have one! how are you feeling - are you getting double strength symptoms?

michelle - how about you, how are you feeling? any signs of anything yet? might still be a bit early yet. 24th will be here in now time - what a magical date to have your scan.

sarah x

My First Scan!!!!!!

Hi Sah
Well done, fantastic news about your scan and your little baby. I hope you will be able to relax a bit now and enjoy being pregnant. My sickness is on and off, yesterday I felt fine and today I feel a bit queasy - it really varies day to day. I am really happy as I reached 10 weeks today and I want to tell everyone, but am being really good and waiting. If scan on 17th is OK, I have a party to go to on 20th so may tell people then. Have you told many people yet?
Take care Sah and talk to you soon. Congratulations.

Hi Pru - congrats on your twins, I am having twins too and sound the same way along as you. How do you feel? It is interesting about you having scans bi weekly. I thought I would have more antenatal care with twins but I seem to be the same as if I was having 1 baby. I have a scan on 17th but that is as a favour by a friend and I had to ask for the scan for Downs syndrome which is on 24th. The next time I see midwife is 18 weeks. I thought they have to monitor you closely for twins. I have a rubbish health authority which is probably why. Take care and talk to you soon.

Lots of love
Louise XXX

My First Scan!!!!!!

Hi Sarah
I must say I'm not having any symptons at all (yet!). My bloating has gone down which I'm delighted about...I'm not even feeling more tired than usual. I'm 21 days post e/t - did you feel anything at this stage?
For the first time today I have got generally nervous feeling that something may go wrong - up until now I've been dead positive and I don't know why my attitude has changed - I guess it has been so hard to get here that we are bound to worry, but I've given myself a nervous tummy. DH keeps telling me not to be such a wally and that everything is going to be fine....the 24th just seems like forever away.
Sorry to complain - I just feel out of sorts today.
Love, Michelle x

poor you michelle

I think we all have those downer days when we feel it's all going wrong. 21 days post et would be about 5 weeks pg then wouldn't it? I don't think I felt anything until mid week 7 started to feel queasy. Have been pretty knackered all along but doc reckons that's probably just the emotional stress of ivf and all the worrying - pregnancy tierdness doesn't start till about week 7 or 8. I am definatley feeling more tierd now!!

i'm sure everything will be fine michelle - like dh says, you're just being a wally! 24th isn't that far and you'll be busy running up to christmas so it will go quickly.

just look after yourself and you'll be fine. wonder how many for you?

sarah :o)

lou - I have told everyone - all family and friends - the only ones that don't know are work people (except my boss and a couple of friends at work). Everyone knew I was IVF, we were very open from the start, so they all knew when we were cycling and when the test was. I'm glad they know in a way. don't know how you can contain yourself!!!!

My First Scan!!!!!!

Hi Sarah
Thanks so much for your reply - you have definitely made me feel better. I guess that I have been so happy since we tested last week that a low ebb was bound to occur somewhere along the way.
Yes, I think I am 5 weeks today, if my calculations are correct, guess they will confirm that on the 24th.
You are right, I know the 24th really isn't that far away and I am busy with Christmas lunches and parties (trying to take it easy though and have cancelled a couple of arrangement for fear of overdoing it).
I've been trying to work out when baby will be due and I think it will be early August - though I may be wrong. Did they give you a due date?
Do they recommend a Down's scan for everyone or is it only mother-to-be of a certain age? I haven't even thought or read up about tests for abnormalities. I'll wait to see that everything is fine first of all and then look into it. I was 33 the day after e/c...if you don't mind me asking how old are you?
Thanks again so much!
Love, Michelle x

Hi Michelle

I was 30 in June and don't mind you asking.

You can work out your due date using the date of the 1st day of your last period, that's also where you count how many weeks pg you are - I was more ahead than I though because I had et on a monday but my previous a/f started on a friday, so my weekly milestones go by the friday - does that make sense? probably not.

Here's place that works it out for you:
http://family.msn.com/tool/tools.aspx?n ...
mine's 18th July 2003 eeeeeekkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk makes me excited thinking about it.

with the downs scan thing - it was the midwife who brought it up saying that if I chose reading hospital to have my baby I would get a free downs scan, but if i chose basingstoke I would have to pay £130 for it, it's just the scan that tell you what % you are at risk of having one by measuring the thickness of the back of the neck - but as it turns out, my ivf clinic actually include in the their second scan, so I might as well have it anyway.

ps - I choose to go and book in with the midwife myself as didn't want to leave it till 12 weeks when the clinic let you go. She said it was a good idea, so they know what's going on and can get all the paperwork and stuff underway.

lucky you having all those lunches and parties to go to - we have nothing in our diaries at all!!!!!!! dh is self employed are my company are too tight to put on a doo and all are friends are at home with their kids so we've got nothing to go to. boo hoo hoo. Am quite glad actually, coz am too knackered to.

I think they only recommend the downs scan to people over 35 or with with history in the family (not that I am either) but anyone is entitled to it, if you want to pay. Just puts you mind at ease I guess.

anyway, back to work

byeeee

sarah x
Firstly Sarah...

Yippeee, now maybe you can relax a wee bit more. I was the same as you at my first scan except for the shock factor of discovering it wa two. If you watch Friends it reminded me of Rachels scan. we also told everyone and that was better than the scan as everyone was so hyper about it. As for the sickness and other symptoms I definately had them early that's why dh suspected there was two. by 6 weeks I was like a permanently quesy Rip Van Winkle!!

Pru and Louise, congrats too or should I say Two!!! I am glad it was two and don't let anyone scare you as we didn't know what one was like so have coped pretty well....both sleeping through the night etc. and I would definately recommend getting in touch with your local twins club. I was a bit wary at first but there were so many other pg mums and loads of IVF'ers and they gave me some totally invaluable advice. And Louise, I got no extra scans etc till after the 20 week scan so I think each region does its own thing.

Michelle and Beck, and all of you or should we call you the Baby Boomers!!!...enjoy this Christmas and make sure evryone pampers you as next year it will be a very different story.

Big hugs to all and don't forget to join the other side soon

Love
Nicky
