New and confused.

Post by Diane05 »

Hiya folks, I'm Diane and i'm 33 and my hubby is 36, we have been ttc for 4 years and last year I was given clomid for 3 months and had some tests done and was told to go back to the specialist in jan, which we did, after an hour sat in a room full of expectant mothers (80% of me delighted they were blessed and 20% wanted to poke em in the eye!!) we were told we were being referred to a fertility clinic in Manchester...the appointment lasted all of 5 mins and we were both so shocked we didn't really ask any questions. Oh and the Dr did slip into the conversation that I have PCOS...that was news to me too.
Anyways that was all in Jan 05, we had a letter a few weeks later, with a stack of forms to get signed and blood tests to be done, which have all been done now but since then we have heard nothing...Is it just a case of waiting now?
Sorry to have rattled on at you all but the more time passes, the harder it seems to get :?

Anyways all take care and try to keep smiling,
Di xx

Hi Di

what a really shabby way you've been treated. These are big, emotional issues you're dealing with and to just give you a 5 minute appointment is shameful. I assume you're doing all the investigative stuff through the NHS, so some waiting is probably inevitable but 6 months seems excessive. I'd get on the phone and at least get some idea of what you can expect to happen next. If it's a private clinic, I'd change clinic!

When you get your next appointment, go armed with a list of questions so that you don't end up stunned into silence. On the "general" board, there is a thread called something like "HFEA recommended questions" which you might find useful, though they seem to start at the point where a clinic is recommending a treatment and you may have some additional questons about what further tests you might need, what they have concluded about your condition and how this affects your fertility.

Good luck with it. And don't worry, you'll become an expert in the end - we all do!

Hi Caroline,
Thankyou for replying and I will phone the clinic later.
I've just spent the last few hours reading through these forums and i've shed tears and chuckled...suddenly hubby and me don't feel quite so alone in this.

Once again, thanks :)
Take care,
Di xx

Diane

I just wanted to say that I totally agree with Caroline - nobody should treat you like this, it's terrible. As if you and DH don't have enough to be thinking and worrying about :x

I really hope that the telephone call gives you some answers - good luck

It' s all so confusing. Can I ask if you went Billinge Hospital? You dont have to say.

They put me on clomid before doing any tests and I really needed ICSI. Fortunately we moved South, but my consulatnt here would never have given me any drugs without the tests first. I have to say we went private because I dont get IVF with my postcode and the waiting time between appointments at NHS hospital (5 min ones!) was so huge i couldnt belive it. I was going to have wait 3 months to get results of a blood test!!! So we went straight to a private clinic for all investihgations and they were scheduled within the month - including follow up.

Anyway, really best wishes and good luck.....Lumi xxxx

Hi Lumi,
Sorry I havn't replied sooner, been away for a few days.
No it wasn't Billinge I went to, it was Fairfield and then they referred us to St Mary's in Manchester but since then we have heard nothing, like I said that was in Jan...it's so frustrating.
Having one of those weeks where I cry at everything
We e mailed St Mary's last week but have heard nothing from them, I can't bring myself to phone them just yet, i'll just blub down the phone at them.

Anyways I'll read some posts on here, they help a lot when I feel like this.
Take care all Di xx
