I have just read an interesting article on the internet about the above and it quotes some research in which in a trial of 42 women with polycystic ovaries and irregular periods began a trial of metformin and 39 were having regular cycles after 3 months!!
Sounds to good to be true as there are little side effects( one of which is weight loss!) and can be continued indefinitely.
Just wondered if anyone knows anything about this???
Hi Vanessa,
I have been on Metformin for just under a year and i found it to be great. I also read it somewhere and took a load of info to my GP so he would let me trial it. I have been having regular (heavy) periods and my skin has improved heaps. It has made it easier to lose weight, i diet and it's working ! !
I've just come off it as i'm due to start ICSI in Jan.
Hi Vanessa

I was on Metformin for almost a year (during which I had one IVF and 2 ICSI's) as I have polycystic ovaries. I didn't have any side effects apart from having a regular cycle for the first time in my life!

The only point I would add to Bex's note is that my consultant made me stay on it the whole time I was going through my treatments - something about it possibly helping to lower the rate of miscarriage (esp. in women with PCOS).

I'm having some time off from it all at the moment, so have stopped taking Metformin for a bit. Even though I stopped it abruptly, there were no weird effects.

Good luck with everything.

Nicola.
