I wonder if anyone has had a poor response to drugs and not produced the required number of eggs for IVF? I felt awful on the down reg drug and felt my body never really picked up after it. I produced 2 eggs and ended up having IUI which was negative. So I kind of did an IUI on IVF drug protocol. Think the consultant is going to suggest another try at IVF but what do they change? I have read about long and short protocol and from what I can gather you're not on the down reg drug for that long.
Hi JM - Sorry you've had such a bad experience. The good news is that there are things they can change for next time - the type of drugs, the dosage, protocol etc - so the outcome could be so different next cycle. Don't give up hope - just look at it that your doc has learnt such a lot from this cycle and can manipulate the next one.
Good luck !

Hello JM,
I have had 2 IVF tmts so far and am now on my 3rd. I've never responded too well to the drugs - was on puregon the first time and menopur the second. Fortunately I've got to 6 eggs on both tries but they weren't all able to fertilize and we have never got to freeze any. This time I'm back on the puregon and they've upped the dose from the first time they tried it. Each time they learn more about how your body responds to the drugs and they are able to adjust things. It is really trial and error - which sounds awful when you're the patient, but there really is no other way than to try and see what happens.
My advice would be ask them what they can do differently next time - ask about the drugs, the dosage of the drugs, different protocols etc. That's what I did.
Hope this helps
Love

hello ladies. i too had poor response to the meds. (i was on antagon & menopur) they were only able to retreive 4 eggs and 3 fertilized and 2 made it for the transfer. my first attempt was -ve but at least my doctor know what to do for the 2nd cycle. She's going to put me on lupron meds & ??? (i just know they are changing all my meds) and double my dosage to see how i respond. it's hard not to worry about the 2nd attempt and how your body will respond the second time around. but you just have to think if you worry you will stress out your body and that might decrease your chances. so think happy thoughts. I will pray that you will have a positive on your next cycle. God Bless!
Yes my first ivf was awful I had no eggs. Just empty follicles. I was on bravell, repronex and lupron. He decreased the lupron by half, added follistim and took the bravell away. I was able to get 4 eggs that time. Is your fsh high? Mine is. I felt hardly any symptoms during the first ivf(I thought it was a breeze) but the combo of the 2nd ivf really made me feel bad but it worked on getting eggs.

I too didn't respond very well during my 1st IVF. My LH was under pressure to surge on CD5! I was on 150ie of Puregon and 2 sniffs per day of Synarela. I ended up with 6 follies (I have totally normal hormone levels and 35) of which 3 were gone due to ovulating early, 2 were already fertilized (ovulated early and were fertilized prior to HCG) so we had only 1 egg for fertilization which we had to do with ICSI..couldn't take the risk. The quality of the embryo was extremely poor.
Changes for round 2: Doc has doubled dosage of Synarela to keep LH in its place...this way the LH and Puregon are not fighting each other...and let's the Puregon do the work it needs to do...so hopefully more eggs next time. My clinic is very conservative and doesn't want more than 10 eggs..so doc was adament about not increasing Puregon. I will also be taking baby aspirin...prescribed by doc (do not self medicate). I am trying to increase quality of eggs by acupuncture and chinese herbs.
