New Girl, due to start ICSI in Jan

Post by katherine »

Hi,

I've been looking at this site for a while now but have been too scared to post messages before now because I could trick myself into believing it wasn't really happening to me. We are due to start short cycle ICSI at the end of January and I am just a bag of emotions at the moment, part of me is so excited and can't wait and the other part is absolutely terrified!

I'm so glad that I found this site as it seems there is such a lot of support from everyone.

I would love to hear from anyone who is due to start in January and also if anyone has any experience of the short cycle I would be interested to hear your stories and views.

Finally, Good Luck to everyone who is undergoing treatment at the moment, especially to all those on the 2ww!

Love Katherine x

Hi Katherine,

welcome to the site, I've only recently discovered it myself, and what a god send!

I'm due to begin treatment in the new year too, we've been diagnosed as having unexplained infertility and so have been offered IUI.

Like you, my emotions have been all over the place too. Instead of eagerly awaiting treatment, I've dreaded it coming around. I think what's so great about this site is that you realise that what you are feeling is absolutely normal, and that most of the women on here have been through or are going through very similar circumstances.

We'll have to do some serious hand holding in January!

Take care,
Suzanne.x

Hi Katherine,

Just wanted to say hi from a veteran - discovered this site (well, the old one) in June and have been through 2 ICSIs with some wonderful cycle buddies.

The last one unfortunately failed with an ectopic pg I'm still recovering from, but our key phrase on here (thanks to Heather) is PMA - Positive Mental Attitude. We all know how hard it gets, and so are here for those difficult moments. But we believe in ourselves and our friends on here going through the same rollercoaster.

I'm hoping to cycle again in the New Year, but it'll probably be more Feb/Mar time depending on when my cycle gets back to normal. Was wondering about asking about the short cycle myself, as don't tend to respond too well to the drugs (only got maximum of 5 eggs per ICSI). So would be interested in knowing your info on why they've put you on that.

Anyway, good luck, and I know for certain you won't be alone even if you have to hook up with some of the FET (Frozen Embryo Transfer) team on the 2ww.

Love Fiona xxx
Me:36 Dh:46, ttc 5+yrs, M/F (96% abnormal).
13 unsuccessful Txs From 2000 [4xClomid (NHS), 7xIUI(d)s & ICSI#1 (MFS), ICSI#2 (MFS) Oct 02 (ectopic)] Natural pg Jan 03 m/c 5.5wks
ICSI#3 (CARE) +ve boy (Xander) EDD 21/03/04 - so excited!!!!!!

Thanks for your messages, it means so much to feel that you are not alone!

Suzanne, I'd definately love to have a buddy hold my hand in January and I'd also love to be of some support to you, I'm a very good listener!

Fiona, I was very sorry to read of your ectopic pg and it is great to see that you have PMA and that you continue to be a source of strength to others around you.

I'm not sure that I can give you any information on the short cycle ICSI other than what you probably already know. I'm afraid that I'm not very good at questioning the doctor and just accept what he seems to think is the best for our situation. I just feel so out of my depth that I think I would walk over hot coals if he told me to! If I explain my situation maybe things will be a bit clearer although I must admit that I feel quite awkward about why we are having to go through ICSI. My DH had a vascetomy during his first marriage which was reversed a couple of years ago but was unfortunately unsuccessful. We were advised that ICSI was our best option due to the length of time since his reversal. MY DH is 44 and I am 28. He already has 2 children, 19 and 14 years. I have had all the initial tests and my results have all come back as normal and I think it is for that reason that we are to do the short cycle. As this is our first time I don't have anything to compare it with and would be interested to see what you think. I don't even really know what the difference between the long and short cycles is! I'm terrified not so much about the injections themselves but the side effects instead and wondering if I will be able to hide what I am doing from those at work.

I have found it hard to talk to people about the fertility treatment as part of me feels that we have no right to want to be parents due to his vascetomy. I was reluctant to post messages as I felt it would be insensitive to others who have had no control over the situation they find themselves in but I have also seen how accepting everyone is and hope that can extend to me.

Love Katherine x

Hi Katherine and a big welcome to this site.

I am definitely an old timer around here (found this site over a year ago and hoping to start 7th cycle in January). Everyone is here for very different reasons and you should never feel awkward about your own personal circumstances. This is a place where nobody judges anyone else and we all have a common goal which is to have a baby. We all share in each other's successes, failures, joy and heartache and we are very happy that you have joined us.

Keep in touch.
Love Julie x
Julie, age 35. Married 12 years, ttc for 10 years, 2 ectopic pregnancies, lost both tubes so tried IVF. 7 unsuccessful attempts and have reached the end of the road so not sure where I belong !!

Katherine

Welcome to the site you are definitely in the right place. This rollercoaster can really take it out of you ate times and it is good to have people who understand what you are going through to talk to.

I am one of the original members of the old site and I still snoop around although I am still on a break from treatment after two failures at ICSI last August and this January.

Never feel guilty about your circumstances, no-one is here to judge and you obviously want what the rest of us do.

Wishing you all the best for the new year, I hope 2003 is your lucky one.

Lisa(Loonpants)
xxx

Katherine - I guess me and dh are in a position where we have to use ICSI thru bad luck (he haad mumps) rather than as a result of choices made in the past - BUT for what its worth I dont think you should wait another minute worrying about feeling guilty for asking questions and chatting on this site. The bottom line is....however we got here we're all in teh same boat!
I would also love to know the difference between a short and long cycle (didn't know a"short one" was a possibilty? - is that just ICSI but with a normal cycle ie with out drugs - so they just get one egg?). Also like you - curious to know how you work/ behave / look normal during treatment. and things like....injections...how do people cope with doing them at work?!

As you can tell I am new to all this too.
Good luck!!

Hi Katherine
A huge welcome to this site. I only discovered it a couple of months ago and don't know what I would have done without it. Never ever feel awkward or guilty about having fertility treatment - we all do what it takes to get a baby....some are just much luckier than others.
I'm on day 9 of the 2ww - test next Thursday 5th (which seems like ages away right now) and this is my first attempt at IVF - we have unexplained infertility.
Anyway I wish you all the luck in the world and that your dreams come true next year.
Love, Michelle

Hi Katherine,
I'm due to start ICSI in Jan also, hopefully (?) start sniffing around 10th Jan.
You shouldn't beat yourself up about why you're having ICSI - you need to keep a positive frame of mind and just go for it.
Have a great Xmas and all the best for the New Year - good luck x
