Hi all

Heather - I totally understand how disappointing 'only' three eggs can be, because that is exactly what happened to us - in fact we almost cancelled egg collection, because there was no certainty we would even get that many. As it was, we had two fertilise, two transferred and one which decided to stick around for the next nine months - so as Deanne says - it really does only take one. We used ICSI, which seems to give more control over the fertilisation rate (if it is possible to control such a process).

Belinda - you asked if we are tired - surely there is a more all-encompassing word than that, because I find that I am dragging myself through the day from lunch time onwards, and collapsing in bed while DP gets dinner ready, up to eat it and then more often than not back to bed - except - some of the tiredness this week is clearly my fault, as I stayed up until 10.30 (outrageous, I know) to watch the double episodes of '24' on Monday and Wednesday.

Am still feeling quite sick off and on, but it is worse when I am tired or haven't eaten - luckily no vomiting, but I think that is will power and grinding my teeth, as I hate to vomit. Am trying to increase the fibre in my diet, so cocopops have been replaced with toasted muffins or porridge for breakfast. We had the blood test back for exposure to slapped cheek, all is well, as I have already been exposed and therefore have an immunity. Received a letter from the Freemasons (where we are booked for the birth), reassuring us that even if they do sell, not to worry.

Am finding it difficult to be engaged with work at the moment, very much looking forward to taking 12 months off, so long-term planning doesn't hold much interest. I have just finished the 8th subject of my masters, 2 more to knock over this semester - I am really keen to get through as much as possible, so should just have 2 subjects to do next year and then finished, thank god.

It has been freezing in Melbourne this week, we are going to Qld in September, taking 2.5 weeks to drive down through Coffs Harbour etc to Sydney, so really looking forward to a nice warm break.

Hope everyone is feeling well and that Heather's ET goes beautifully on Sunday!!

Hi Ladies

Thanks again for the support. Well, the transfer met all of my expectations.....we arrived at the clinic for our day and a half transfer to be told by the trainee embryologist (who, yikes, looked after the EC process and has been managing that side of things ever since) that of the two eggs that fertilised one had arrested and the other had divided to two cell but they would have liked it to be four. DH started to tense up at this point as we had been discussing the early transfger and didn't think the poor little blighter had been given a chance to divide at all! We then went into the clinic and sat around for ages while the doctor attempted to get the us machine to fire up. It eventually showed us something (although it looked nothing like the last time) and the doctor commented that at least we managed to get a picture. I had to shoot DH one of those 'shut up' type looks at this point to avoid us being thrown out of the clinic! They transfered the two embies blindly but at least we know (well we hope) they went into my uterus. Finally, the nurse gave us our instruction sheet and pathology request which, when we returned home, we noticed she has schedule the test date for three weeks time!! DH is really angry with them and is going to make an appointment to see the Dr to explain why we are changing clinics. I had managed my expectations a little better and am not surprised at all. Is it just me or does this clinic sound a bit keystone coppish? If it wasn't me going through this I would find it quite laughable. They even gave us a customer satisfaction survey which they said they hoped would give us an opportunity to provide some positive feedback....that was when I rushed DH out the door at a frightening pace to avoid any charges of GBH!

Sorry, just needed to vent a little. I am now feeling really sick, thanks to a swig of brandy following ET. I had read that a lot of clinics do this as it gets the blood flowing and relaxes you a bit....it was self administered though, not on my clinics recommendation and brandy at 9.00am is never a good idea!

Sorry to hear you are feeling a bit sick Josie, although I am sure this is a sign of a healthy foetus. It sounds like you have a lot on your plate with your job and all that that involves, trying to complete your masters (wow) and your pregnancy. I can see why you are looking forward to having some time off and I too would have problems focusing with so much going on. Take care and lets hope the second trimester comes around quickly and that the tiredness and nausea disappear.

Hope the rest of you are enjoying your sunday.

Cheers
Heather

Heather - I am glad you at least had a transfer. Hopefully you won't need to chance clinics & this go will work. You poor thing. Your clinic sounds ridiculous!!!! I can understand why you want to change - I would. If you change, will you have to drive to Brisbane? If so, how long does that take? At least in Brisbane there is a choice of clinics. We are happy with Monash, but I guess that it is a little different down in Melbourne. Oh Heather, I want you to get pregnant so badly so I have everything crossed for you.

I need some advise from everyone. So far DH & I have only been having one embryo transferred (our Dr thinks it is best because of our age). Having gone through the disappointment of unsuccessful thawing, I am thinking of going for two this time (regardless of what the Dr says). What has everyone else done & been told about one vs. two???

I hope everyone has a great weekend - I'm off to work soon.

Heather - it is great news that fertilisation occurred and you were able to go through with the transfer, but if I were in your boots, I think I would also be considering changing - especially as this is the second time you have been disappointed with the process and the way your treatment has been managed. It is so difficult, as we are taught to trust the 'experts' and you would expect someone operating an IVF clinic would fall in that category.

On the positive side - if you have made it to the embie stage and have made it through ET, you should be in the same boat as everyone else at this stage, and there should be just as good a chance of success - I know it can sound trite, but be positive.

I love the brandy idea..... probably a good idea you didn't have it before ET, as you might have been up on GBH charges with DH!!!!

Take care, like Miss Molly, I have all my fingers and toes crossed for you!

Hi all,

Heather - as Deanne said..... :) you only need O-N-E :) to be in there with a chance! Think POSITIVE. Cyber {{{{Hugs}}} on you way. Regarding your clinic, I am feeling really angry with them, I can totally relate to you and DH's frustration - I had to deal with those emotions when I needed to get help with my endometriosis... something we should not have to deal with. Vent as much as you want Heather, we are always here for you.

Deanne, I hope you are resting well at your mum's. Is it cold in Canberra? we had a beautiful sunny day in Melbourne today, I went to see my team play footy at the Dome. Gooooooo Noooorrrrrrrrth!!!!!

MissMolly, yes I went to the clinic you mentioned... they were ok, but.... . The acupuncture itself was great, never done it before so it was an interesting experince. Re ET.... (though this is my 1st IVF and I still have much to learn).... I think, if two is what you want , then you & DH should go for it - why not?

Josie, it's so nice to hear from you.... sorry you are still feeling sick, your little bundle of joy is certainly working you very hard  ... and you do have lots going on right now, take it slow when you can.

Bel, I hope you a lovely weekend. I cannot believe Dean got evicted tonight - I really wanted Rita to go.

Cheers, Tiger

Hi everyone,

Heather, I'm really glad you made it to the transfer stage and hope you're taking it nice and easy now. If it's any consolation, I didn't have an u/sound prior to transfer (doc did it 'blind') and it worked for us so hopefully will for you too. Like everyone else I'm crossing all fingers and toes for you. Hope the 2ww goes by asap.

Tiger, did your team win the footy? My brother went to Melbourne the weekend before last and saw 2 AFL games with his mates. They had a great time - said the atmosphere was nice and friendly, even between rival supporters.

Canberra was a bit chilly, but nice and sunny. My Mum's house is heated beautifully and so we actually felt a lot colder arriving back in Sydney at our place last night! Our puppy travelled really well and enjoyed the break away as much as we did.

Josie, I don't know how you're managing working, studying and being PG. I'm finding it hard enough just working part-time from home! I'm still suffering from nausea too. Usually when I go to Canberra my Mum cooks me all my favourite dishes, but this time all I asked for was plain pasta and toast!! My healthiest meal each day is also breakfast (Special K or Sultana Bran and a banana).

I know nothing about cycling but am finding the Tour de France coverage on SBS gripping viewing. I think it's all those shots of picture-perfect French villages that they whizz by. Such amazingly beautiful countryside. Ahh well.

Hope you all have a great week,
Deanne

Thanks yet again for your support ladies. I can be such a drama queen sometimes. I feel much better today....although, not doing anything by halves, I started a new job today. It is much less stressful than working in child protection, in fact I think I am going to be very bored which will be a wonderful thing for a while.

Deanne, sorry to hear you couldn't take advantage of mum's cooking...there is nothing better! I miss Canberra (never thought I would say that) but I haven't been home in nearly 3 years and feel a bit homesick. Plus I miss all my friends and family. Mum is coming up in a few weeks so that will help a bit, I can't wait (also thought I would never say that). I hope you begin to feel better soon and can rejoin the land of the living (and eating). Try eating strawberries if you can stomach them, they always make me feel better when I am nauseas, and ginger really does help.

MissMolly, I say go for it! The stats for positive testing following a 2 embryo transfer are so much greater than for 1. I guess, because you are younger, you should consider if and how you both would manage with a multiple pregnancy as this obviously increases the chances of this happening.

Tiger, glad to hear the acupuncture session went so well. Will the treatment help with the endo pain? I really hope it helps you out in that department, might make you life a bit more bearable and reduce the need for painkillers. Good luck with it.

Josie, Belinda and Barbara (oh, and everyone else) I hope you all had a great weekend and.....it is only four more days until another one!

Cheers

Good very very early morning !!

Heather - I think acupuncture should help my endo as well but at this time I am really concentrating on IVF side of things... My plan is not to have AF for next 10 months(?) so I don't have to think about endo period pain too :).

Deanne, my team won on the weekend!! This was my first footy match in 2 years and I loved every second of it.

Ah, sorry my hubby is online I must go... catch you all again soon.

Cheers, Tiger

Hi ladies,

Heather, glad to hear you're feeling better. A new job's pretty exciting - what area are you working in now?

Tiger were you up at such an unearthly hour to talk to your hubby? That's v. sweet.

I had my first regular consult with my obst. this morning. He did an external u/sound. I thought I'd still need an internal one at this stage, so that was a nice surprise. He said the little one is growing and he picked up the heartbeat, so that was good news. We couldn't see much though - still a little blurry blob. My next appointment is in 4 weeks time when, God willing, I'll be 13 weeks and into the 2nd trimester - yikes.

Hope all of you are well. We're more than halfway through winter now - yay!!

Bye for now,

Hi gals,
Sorry about the delay in getting back "on board", Johnie, Annie and I have been down at the Gold Coast for the last three nights. We had a fabulous time, very relaxing and lovely to spend time together. Annie got sick (of course!) on Monday, we had her at the doctor, she has another virus evidently, nothing to do except regular baby panadol (buy it in bulk ladies!) and cuddles. Thanks goodness Johnie had a couple of days off work, I find baby sickness really exhausting, Annie wants to be carried constantly and finds not much very amusing..she is slowly getting better again thank goodness!

Heather, glad to hear that you have had your embie transfer..don't blame you for wanting to change clinics, though I like to think that this will be reduntant once you get your BFP from this cycle..

Josie and Deanne, glad things are progressing well for you both.

Tiger, how are you going??, where are you up to with your cycle??

Take care all
Belinda

Hiya Gals

Deanne, a scan, how exciting. It must seem a bit more real....that is if all the nause and exhaustion hadn't given you the heads up! Glad to hear everything is going along swimmingly. I can't remember but did you use Sydney IVF....I am seriously thinking of going there if I have to do another cycle, I figure that Sydney is only another hour on a plane than Brisbane so why not. They sound fabulous!

Tiger, I like your attitude. I hope you don't have to worry about the endo for another ten months also....well longer actually, doesn't pregnancy have a magical way of minimising the effects of endo? I truly hope your wish is granted.

MissMolly, I think I read on another thread that you have decided to have 2 embies put back. It must be exciting to think of all the possibilities that that might involve. Good for you.

Belinda, poor little Annie, she is really having a rough time lately. Glad that you had a few great days on the coast though, I love the Gold Coast. I am a theme park junkie! Hope the poor little tyke is feeling better soon.

I am pleased to say that my 2ww is a breeze. My new job, helping people with disabilites to get into work (don't know how I ended up here, I am an auditor by trade) is taking my mind off everything and I am absolutely exhausted when I come home. DH has cooked meals every night this week and I feel like the bad wife! Still, hasn't inspired me to do anything to redeem myself.

Best wishes to all

Hi everyone - Bel -your break sounds lovely.... the weather in Melbourne has been beautiful during the day, freezing in the mornings this week, it was 4, ice on the car, yesterday morning.

Deanne - another scan - yippee - we are going to see the obst. on Friday, whcih will be good. I am starting to get a bit paranoid, prodding my lower stomach, wondering why I can't feel any 'bump' yet - 10 weeks tomorrow, so feel that I should be able to feel something. However, am not exactly tall and thin, so hopefully its all happening way below the surface. I got so worked up about it yesterday that I almost used the last HPT that I have in the drawer, then told myself not to be so silly, as still v tired and ill off and on. All will be revealed on Friday!

The kids are really excited, Grace (9) has given me her 'Baby Born' clothes, in case they fit the baby - some of them will, because it was actually cheaper to buy her real baby clothes rather than the offical doll version, so they have been washed and are in the cupboard. She is insistent that we find out what sex it is as soon as possible, so we can go shopping for the right colour clothes.

Miss Molly - we had two embies transferred, would have loved twins, although we had lots of discussions about the consequences of triplets. We were told that the chance of twins from two embies in a successful pregnancy was 20%, while the chance of triplets from two (ie one splitting) was 1%. I don't mean to sound ungrateful, but I was disappointed when they said it was only one, which was weird, because we were so psyched up for it not to work at all, that I don't think I would have been suprised with a -ve.

Well, only two more sleeps until the weekend, the evil Logan has been evicted (to much cheering in our household) and its time for a cuppa and then bed.

Take care

Happy Friday everyone,

Tiger, I'm sure you're going to have an adorable little one of your own very soon - a playmate for your friend's kiddies.

Josie, good luck with your scan today. I'm sure you'll get all the reassurance you're looking for. And you're almost into the 2nd trimester which is exciting.

Heather I've just sent you a separate email with some info on the clinic we used.

Bel, glad you had a nice break away.

This morning I felt queasy again and had to go back to bed after breakfast. The puppy thinks I'm mad - I'm only awake for an hour and I go back upstairs to the bedroom and sleep for another two. My Mum said she did the same when she was expecting me so I guess it's normal, but it feels pathetic!

Hi to everyone else too, and hope you all have a great weekend.

Cheers

Hi everyone!

Well I have started the second ctim cycle yesterday (started the pill). I start to sniff on 6th August. EC is looking to be around the 29th - 30th August (my birthday is on the 29th!!!!!!!!). Oh well I don't mind, maybe it will be good luck?

Bel - Glad you had a lovely time on the Gold Coast. We are heading there on the 7th August & can't wait! I hope little Annie is feeling better.

Heather - Wow, travelling to Sydney for treatment. I think I would do the same. At least if you are prepared to travel, then you have greater choice & may feel like you have more control over your treatment. I'm glad you are enjoying your new job. How is the 2ww going? I know I found it a lot easier than the first time.

Our Dr is so frustrating!!!!! I am changing from crinone gel to a pessary for this cycle, but he forgot to give me a prescription for it. I did not know that I needed a prescription, I thought they just gave it to me like the crinone at the clinic. Our nurse told me that he should have given us a prescription - she sounded very frustrated with him!!!! These pessaries are very expensive and not included in the usual IVF fee - typical!!!!!

Tiger - how did acupuncture go? I went on Wednesday & had acupuncture with cupping done. The cupping felt really weird, but I felt good later on. I have got lots of big, round bruises on my back.
Heather - maybe if you are going to travel for IVF, you could look into acupuncture as well (I'm hooked on it  ).

Deanne - I'm glad the obstetrician appointment went really well. It must all be feeling very real now.

Josie - I hope the scan went well.

It is such a lovely day here in Melbourne. The sky is a perfect blue. Its a litle too windy, but when the sun is shining in the middle of winter who cares!
