Hi there, my name is Julia and I am 30 years old - DH is 32. We reside in Toronto Canada. I have been reading this message board for a month now and have been amazed by all the useful information and all you lovely ladies.
I have PCOS and my husband has borderline low sperm count/motility. We have had three previous attempts at IUI and have never actually gone through with the procedure. I had developed too many follicles and there was a great risk of OHSS - so all cycles were cancelled. We decided to try IVF and so here we are.
My egg retrieval is scheduled for tomorrow, 6am. I have 13 mature follicles and several small ones that will likely not release. I'm quite nervous for the procedure. There is still a high chance of OHSS if I do become pregnant - my doctor was very blunt, to say the least, "so you may get a blood clot and die in the worst scenerio" - not very comforting and I suppose that's contributed to my paranoia. But nonethless, we are hopeful. I have been drinking tons of water and gatorade (just the thought of it makes me gag!) - and trying my best to keep a healthy diet.
It's comforting to know that I am in the same boat as many of you ladies. I hope to chat with you in the near future and I'll keep you posted on my progress.
Hi Julia, thanks for posting your info so quickly!
Again, good luck tomorrow. Whilst you're at the clinic, double check how much water they suggest you drink. I know it helps with OHSS but as someone (cmg) on here found out last year, there is too much of a good thing and it can have even worse consequences. Poor Caroline had a horrible, horrible time through over-drinking water. Best to check and be sure.
Good luck, and I look forward to hearing your news!
Debra
