hi everyone
i was told to carry on as normal just to cut out certain foods,no baths, sex was ok now....nurse reminded me that it wasnt a ILLNESS(i felt that was a bit insensative)
i know its not a illness but do half these nurses really really understand wot were going thru... bet most have children!!!!
only thing im gutted about is i go once a month for a facial and back massage i thought id have to stop the back massage but facial would be fine ... but nope cant even have that for the first 3 months (small price to pay tho)
i am taking things easy and doing hardly anything i dont want to risk anything after trying for so long...4 more days till test

Question: Does anyone know the latest on hair color/dyeing/perms etc.? I asked my beautician and he said it was never true that hair products can cause harm to a pregnancy and that with advancements in the products over the past 10 years, they are even more safe. Anyone else have any input?
Also, on the sunbathing.... I did it during the last 3 months of my pregnancies and felt I accidentally did something right. In my area of the world (SE New Mexico) many of the babies born during that time had varying degrees of jondice (liver issue that causes the baby's skin to look yellow). The hospital would put the babies under a billiruben (spelled wrong) light for a time to make it go away (this light simulates the sun's rays). My babies were the only ones of all my friends having babies at the time that didn't need this. ??? I didn't put it together for several years and it is only my best guess, not scientifically proven. Anyway, just throwing it out there for discussion. Not sure if jondice is even an issue for babies today like it was 20 years ago, and it may have only been in my part of the world. ???
Note: sunbathing should be done in small increments of time - I never burned and did not get a leathery tan. Just a half hour on each side on the weekends. And no, in those days, I didn't use sunscreen. ???

Hi Randa, I don't know about the sunbathing (other than Zita saying not to do it during 2ww), but I remember someone posting on here fairly recently about hair colourings and that it wasn't a No No. Sorry, can't be more specific.

Just to clarify... I sunbathed in a bikini between 7-9 months and never overheated, but made sure my belly got a healthy dose. I looked ridiculous, but was in my own back yard so who cared. I realize that this "dos and don'ts" thread is supposed to be about IVF and particularly the prep and 2ww stages. So this tip was a little out of place here. BUT, when we all get pregnant... and we will.... it might be worth tucking away.
Also, with everyone scared to death to get any sun these days, I think we run the risk of going too far the other direction and missing out on some of the benefits of sunshine. Don't we need it to process the Vitamin D we get? OK... I'll shut up now about sunshine.

Hi Ladies not on the 2ww yet but hopefully will be towards the end of the month after IVF (everything is crossed) - so what about going to chiropractor? Yes / no? I didn't book an apt during the time that could be my 2ww today but then wondered afterwards if I was being silly?
So to confirm massage and facial are out is that the consensus?
hi jag
i always go for a facial and back massage every month my last one was on my 2ww after she had done it when i was getting dressed she had a chat with another of the girls and they were reluctant to do it again for the first 3 months anyway
i suppose if god forbid anything happened u would be looking for someone to blame
i did ask when i went to the clinic and they also said it was a no no i asked her for how long and she said the whole 9 months which i found strange because in most beauty shops u can have a mum to be pamper. i will ask again when i go for my scan on the 16th i should be nearly 8 weeks then i think
i have a chropodist booked to come to the house this afternoon i cant see thats going to cause any problems

Just a quick question: Tomorrow I'm going for IUI, so today I did some outdoor painting. I know I'm not going to be able to do it for awhile, so I wanted to get it started.
DH came home from work and is cross at me. Anyone know if outdoor painting before tmt is dangerous?
IUI twins ~ July 2006
IUI singleton ~ due Jan 15 2009
Hi Denise - I'm not sure about the outdoor painting but heh if he was cross at you - you could always pass over the paintbrush to him and sit back and watch and point out the bits he has missed!!! Sorry not the most helpful of ansas but it would be my option!
Interesting to re-read these. Won't be on my 2WW until next week (assuming we get to ET) but I was asking my consultant yesterday about swimming and sunbathing as these are particularly relevant to me (we are flying to our house in Italy next Friday). He said not to do anything strenous but doesn't see what harm gentle paddling and sunbathing could do and pointed out that loads of women who conceived naturally do it without any problems! I guess that once an embryo has implanted successfully we become like any other pregnant woman.
I plan to paddle if I feel like it, and I always sunbathe under an umbrella anyway - I reckon anything that relaxes me will be good for me!
Hi, everyone Posted this in the Septembies thread, but thought I would post it hear as well. These are tips not only for the 2WW, but also for stimming.
Just got back from my first acu session and she recommended some things I had never heard before. She specializes in infertility and has a lot of success. Wanted to share her recommendations with you.
She told me to eat more warm/cooked foods in order to keep the body warm kind of like "making the body into an incubator." For instance, I eat a lot of salads and fruit. She told me to continue eating the fruits and veges, but to eat them cooked instead of cold and raw. She also recommended that I eat more red meat (rich and nourishing), eat eggs for breakfast (warm and nourishing), eat kidney beans and toasted walnuts, and if I am going to eat a salad, use a ginger dressing as it has "natural warming properties."
Can't hurt, right?!

Just wanted to let you ladies know that i'm a qualified hairdresser. I'm not a dr. but I do know alot about the hair and scalp. There has never been anything wrong with coloring your hair while being pregnant. First off, your hair is dead. Secondly, the hair coloring sits on your scalp and although someone might argue that chemicals on your scalp could be taken into your body then I would also argue that nobody should be wearing perfume while being pregnant. Or they shouldn't be washing dishes or using any kind of bleach while cleaning in case it touches they're skin. Also, if we got really funny about it then pregnant women would stop using deodorants, make-up and the list would just go on and on and on. For the amount of time the treatment is on your scalp I wouldn't worry about it. Compared to DAILY use of some other products we use on our bodies, "make-up, perfume, moisturizers, deodorants, nail polish, enhaling car fumes, air fresheners" etc.etc.
Not trying to make eveyrone paranoid here either but just trying to show you in a different light that it's just an old wives tale. Don't be afraid to color your hair
Take it easy girls.
