Craving all the wrong things!!?

Post by Kel »

Hello!

Well I am a bit worried as the only foods I really seem to fancy to eat is unhealthy stuff - mainly chips!! Help!! I think it's because of the nausea and it's making me just want to eat stodgy carbs, and I am worried because I am really trying every day to get the fruit and veg in for my Baby, but I was really healthy before I was PG and now a lot of the healthy stuff just turns my stomach - has anyone got any tips at all, and how can I stop wanting chips!!!!! Is that going to be really bad for Baby??

Thanks so much for any help!

Kel:
Sorry to hear you are craving all the wrong things. From what I have read a lot of women crave chips because the salt is suppose to help with nausea. However, you must still force yourself to eat healthy stuff such as fruit, etc. I too have cravings for "bad stuff" but I make myself always eat fruit during the day as a snack. So I usually have a piece in the am & pm. My problem is I'm craving fast food.... :( Remember everything in moderation is okay.

Good luck!
:)

Hi Kel and Mil

Im also craving junk food. My fridge is full of good stuff as well-I have lots of fruit and I am trying to eat well, but the bad stuff is just more appealing.
Mind you, although trying to be good and having herbal teas, have read a comment on the general forum (and cant remember where now!) that green tea may not be good for pregnant women! I was just getting into my green tea with lemon as well, having cut down on the coffee. Cant do anything right!
Take care

Kel
The chips are pretty normal , my friend when she was pregnant could only eat chips to stop her from TU. As long as you are getting some healthy stuff down I don't see what the problem is, Just don't go over board or you will be majorly bloated from the salt.

Hi Mil, Kim and Joy!

Thanks for your replies girls, that's eally helped. My eating had been so weird, and I guess not helped by needing to eat little and often! Did have the most yummy portion of chips yesterday so treid to make it up with 3 bits of fruit and chicken stew!! Kim, weird isn't it about the fast-food thing - I hated the stuff before and now it looks so tempting!!!!!! Well, we'll just have to keep the fruit bowl stocked up!!

With my first pregnancy there was about a three month period where ALL I wanted to eat was chips and fries and sausage McMuffins from McDonalds. I tried to limit the McD's trips to once a week but didn't force myself to eat things I absolutely couldn't stomach (like just about any green vegetable). Watermelon and lemonade always tasted good.

Everything went well I have a very healthy 3 year old boy.

I just got a +ive blood test from my first IVF after 3 failed IUI's. I expect I'll be a little more cautious this time since I've had one MC since the boy and will not be taking things quite as casually. But seriously, I believe that aside from the real no-no's like raw fish and meat and unpasturized cheese you should enjoy to some degree the cravings.

Hi there

Just wanted to add something my Mid-wife said. I asked about weird cravings and all the stuff in books about healthy eating. I said that sometimes all I wanted was junk food, nothing "sensible" and she said that as long as you are careful, a little bit of "naughtiness" won't hurt anyone - afterall our bodies are telling us what they want for a reason.

Hope you are all coping with your cravings.
Big hugs

Little P

Hi Kel,

During the 1st trimester, I could have quite happily eaten chips every day for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Also, I craved anything with pastry like sausage rolls, pasties, pies etc.

I usually have quite a healthy diet but I went completely off fruit and veg for the first few months.

The way I look at it is that you should listen to your body. If you crave it your body probably needs it. Your baby is growing so quickly during those early months your body needs loads of energy to cope. Maybe take some vitamin supplements to make sure you are getting all the nutrients.
