Was reading Rita West's book and she raves on about acupuncture. Was just wondering if anyone has tried it and if so if they found it of any benefit. Willing to try nything that will help
There are a few threads about on acupuncture at the moment, so you might find interesting info on them.
Im a big fan. Ive had it for my first IVF and got a positive. Might be just coincidence, but both me and DH are convinced. I also found it relaxed me. (Not necessarily when the needles were been put in though!). I also have a hip problem which it cured of pain (and hasnt come back yet!) and a friend of mine had it for hormonal problems and found it helped. Ive read research done in Germany and the US on acupuncture and IVF and it appeared to increase chances of it working.
Good luck with your treatment!

I agree with Kim, I am currently waiting to find out about the outcome of my 3rd IVF tmt, this time I had acupuncture from 2 months before and all the way through, my last one being just a couple of days ago.
Obviously I had read that it does increase the success rates (and I hope to add to that!) but the one thing that I can say is that I have certainly been more relaxed about the whole thing (apart from the 2ww where I've had my moments ) and it's certainly put me in a more positive frame of mind
So I would do a bit of research and find one near you that helps people undergoing fertility treatment and go for it!
Good luck
Joanne

Hi Jo
This is my first IVF cycle but started to do acupuncture about a month ago. I decided to go after reading on the internet that there are clinics in the states that use acupuncture with IVF and they have very good success rates. I guess you will never know whether it is the acupuncture that has made you pregnant or not but its certainly worth a try. I agree with the others - it is very relaxing as well. It does all make sense and it has been used for 1000's of years!
She was certainly been able to sort out my period pains. Also I had a headache for 5 days the other day and as I am taking all the other drugs for IVF I didn't want to take any nurofen etc. She cured my headache whilst I was there!
As an aside I was a total sceptic about this sort of thing until this year. My mum has suffered for years with really bad arthritis and she went to an acupuncturist this year. Whilst it didn't cure the visible side of the arthritis it cured the pain and she was able to walk more and had heaps more energy - if it worked for her arthritis then there must be something good in it!
After reading threads on here about acupuncture and Zita West's book, I have also decided to give it a go. I am having ivf in October and have arranged to go see an acupuncturist at beginning of September. Don't like idea of needles sticking in me but if it will help I'll try it.
Hi Ladies - don't worry too much about the needles - I am a total phobic of needles. My lady told me to sniff when she put the needle in! I also close my eyes so I don't see them - if I knew what I looked like with all those needles in I think I would freak! BUT it is good and it is certainly relaxing. They also put the needles in strange places eg legs, feet, hands and you wonder why that would help infertility but it does! They also take your pulse for what seems like ages and check at different depths as it tells them different things. At first I thought she couldn't find my pulse!!
I look forward to hearing how your acupuncture goes and good luck with your treatments!

Hi All - can only recommend at great book regarding fertility and acupuncture...called The Infertility Cure by Randine Lewis. Especially if you are curious about where the needles go and what exactly is being treated. I have beein going to acu since May (after negative) and will start next round in September. Don't worry about the needles going in...if anything you feel a pinch.
I had acu with my last IVF cycle in Apr 2003 and it worked - I now have an 18 month old son. I have just had 2 frozen blastocysts (frozen after my last cycle) put back today and acu on friday and this evening.
There are lots of studies to say that it can help boost pregnancy rates. All I can say is that it seemed to work for me last time (and hopefully this time as well!!) and I would definitely recommend it - it certainly won't do you any harm (except for for bank balance).
I was advised to have acu as near to ET as possible - within 7 hours if pos, but am not sure whether this is a standard line.
I find that it does hurt a little when they stick the needles in but 'no pain no gain'!!
Good luck
Alison
