acupuncture...again!

Post by jg »

Hi girls.

I am looking into acupuncturists and don't have many resources. Can you please help with what KIND of acupuncture works best...Chinese or Japanese?

I've heard that Chinese is a bit more painful and Japanese is less so...but I care about what's more effective in conjuction with IVF treatment. Please help - or share your stories with what kind you've had, for how long, immediately after transfer?, etc.

Thanks!

Hi JG, I am not sure which one is best chinese v. japenese. The best thing is that you feel comfortable with the doctor, they are certified (there are quacks out there), and they specialize in (in)fertility issues.

Like every fertility clinic, every acu doc is different in regards to protocols...also they should handle their patients at an individual level....for example...many acu docs prescribe herbs in the pill format...well these are not individually tailored for one specific persons needs and therefore aren't as effective.

From what I have read most acu docs want 3 months prior to your IVF cycle...again all acu docs are different. By my next round I will have had 4 months of acu (I go on average once every 2 weeks), she will not do acu while stimming, and will do a session day after ET...but again all this will depend on how I start reacting to the drugs, embryo development....

To find an acu doctor, here is a website: www.acufinder.com

Thanks Tracii - I will look into the website. Do you know if all acupuncturists recommend stopping acup while stimming?

Just to jump in here – my acu guy likes to see people during stimming too. I’ve tried to see him once a week. He will see people just before their EC If they need to (ie if they feel very bloated/sore and needing ‘calming down’) – I feel pretty OK so haven’t needed to see him since last week. Hopefully will try and see him before ET and again a day or two after ET.

Hi JG, Some will do acu during stimming...but again it should depend on the person and the situation...near the end of stimming one is usually pretty bloated and sensitive...therefore some may not perform acu. My last round I had only 6 follies..so maybe my acu would have done a session to get more blood flowing...really all I can say is it depends. The internet has a ton of info regarding acu and infertility...as well as the bookstore...if you are in a big city there could be an eastern medicine type bookstore or a bookstore specializing in health...

I hope this helps :D
