Assisted Hatching Anyone?

Post by wantarugrat »

Hey Girlies,

I had three embryos transferred to IVF on August 4th (via egg donor in the U.S.) They performed ICSI and A/H. My research tells me it improves the chances of implantation for the "more mature" egg. My donor is only 26 yrs. so quite young and my question is, will it make much of a difference on implantation? Has anyone else had A/H? Success?

Also, the wait for me is only 12 days (including day of transfer). I note most are instructed for a two week wait, any words of wisdom on an early test date (will is still be accurate?) I want to continue the meds until the "white Kotex flag is raised" and a surrender has been officially declared.

Finally, as this is my first IVF (and sadly as there were no extra eggs for a FET, the last) what symptoms may I begin noticing on day 5-6 (today) if any. I haven't noticed anything different which is getting me both annoyed and discouraged. Has anyone noticed early signes to indicate either + or -?

Thanks for your wealth of information!

hi there......

good luck on the 2WW..... my clinic tests the same as yours. I know that some others use HPTs, which need a HCG level of 50 to test positive, where as blood work, they know the exact amount...

my Dr's always use A/H on the day 3 embro transfers, as they get a much better result.... I've always had day 5 transfers, so i've never had the A/H.....

as for signs of a + or -..... i've had 3 +ives and 2 -ives and had absolutly no differences.... some girls do say that they feel different, or have AF feelings.... but i think that you will not know until your test date.... that's what makes the 2WW the longest wait ever......

there are a lot more girls on the 2WW in the General Forum.. .

good luck

Wanda

Welcome to the dreaded 2ww!

I had a treatment in August last year where A/H was used and it ended in a positive outcome - although I had an early m/c which was due to NK cells nothing to do with the quality of the embryos or anything else. Although I can't give statistics for success, I do know that it is highly thought of.

As for signs that you should or shouldn't be experiencing - unfortunately this is difficult to answer because some ladies don't have any feelings at all and end up with a positive, and others get the AF pains, sore boobs and nausea. It really is pot-luck as to how you and your body responds to pregnancy.

The treatment I have just had done, we did a 5-day transfer (blastocyst stage) and I only had to wait 10 days until the pregnancy test. I am absolutely sure your hospital would not test you unless they were certain that the outcome would be accurate.

Try and remain positive and full of hope.

If you go to the General Forum, you will see that there is a thread call August 2ww - this is where other girls who are currently enduring the 2ww chat daily about how they are feeling, you might find it helpful to join in and share how you are getting on.

Sandra is running a test dates thread and if you would like to be added to that list just let her know your test date and she will.

Anyway - hope this helps a bit.

Good luck and stay full of PMA

Movin' On Over...

Thanks Little P... I am going over to the 2WW side to idle my time with the rest of the August hens sitting on their nests. I still appreciate any information from any of you IVF gals on your own experience with assisted hatching and the success you may/or not have had?

Ciao Babes!

Hey wanta rugrat! I just had my FET with a donor August 3rd. I test on August 16th. My first IVF, they didn not do assisted hatching. I don't think my clinic usu. does. Being that my next transfer was a FET, they say that sometimes when embryos are frozen, the shell becomes hardened. Also, since my first IVF failed, A/H is said to help w/ implantation. I guess you'll find out before me if A/H helps! Please let me know. You will be in my thoughts & prayers! :D

Hello Wanta,

Recently I finished my first IVF attempt. Because of my husband's very low sperm motility we had to go with Assisted Hatching. I had 18 eggs, 16 got fertilized (using Ass. Hatch.), 9 started to divide, 3 were ok enough to transfer in my uterus, the rest did not make it, so no freeze could be done. I was told that all the embryos were bad quality possibly because of my husband's sperm condition. 2 days ago I found out that my pregnancy test was negative.
My experiense was very painful and I do not know when I get over it. But I heard Ass. Hatch. can really help some couples. Do not give up and I wish you good luck! Sana
