You are all so lovely and supportive. Unfortunately I had bad news and am now picking up the pieces to move forward. My DH and I are not sure if we will try another round of IVF (we used a donor egg and only received two good eggs from her - she is 26 years old). I'm 41 so we thought our best chance was to go this route. Now not so sure. I know it sometimes takes more than one try to achieve success but the toll it takes emotionally might be too high a price. Not sure I could face a second negative outcome.

Question to any of you, when you did egg retreival, how many eggs were there for fertilization? We were hoping we could at least have the option of a FET, which is not the case.

Good luck to you all.

Love and God Bless
Wanda

Oh Wanda, I'm so sorry. I did not see your post. Please know we are all here for you.
Love and Hugs to You and DH

PS..Wanda I have never done an egg retrival but based on my last two IUI medicated cycles I produced 4 follicles (My FSH is 7.3). At 42 the doctor did not complain or compliment this number (I didn't know enough about it to ask) but the younger 20 somethings can produce alot more eggs on a medicated cycle. In fact my doctor said a VERY good egg retrival from a young donor is 15. Does this help?

So sorry to read your news Wanda. I hope you and DH are taking care of each other throughout this whole wretched process. I really wish it had worked out for you this time.

In answer to your question, I have only ever had two embies to transfer and none left over to freeze....I am 39 though. The number of eggs varies significantly from woman to women, however, I would have expected many more from someone of 26 and you have a right to be really disappointed.

Take care in the coming weeks and I hope things start to look brighter soon.

Best wishes

Wanda

I am so sorry to hear your news. Big hugs to you and DH.

Re: your question. I had 8 embryos left, all at the blastocyst stage. We transferred 2 and were given the option to freeze the rest.

Hope this helps.

Big hugs

Little P

Wanda, really sorry to hear your news. Have to say that in your position I'd be feeling mighty miffed that a young donor of 26 only produced 2 eggs. I would have expected more. How was she found - by your clinic? Was she thoroughly tested herself for fertility etc before all this?

Each woman is different. I am 39 and last week they collected 25 eggs from me, 24 of which were mature. From those we got 16 fertilised and on ET day (yesterday) we had 9 blastos to choose from. We transferred 2 (I'm not 40 until Oct so sadly couldn't have 3) and froze the rest.

I presume you will have a follow-up with your clinic and I would certainly be asking some questions about the donor. Maybe next time you could use someone with a better history? Obviously you cannot expect the same no of eggs each time (for eg, the last 2 cycles I produced 12 eggs) but even so, a healthy 26 year old should surely produce more than 2?

Whilst I'm sure now you are feeling very low, I don't think you should be discouraged by this cycle and I would hope your next donor would an improvement.

Hi Wanda .. So, so sorry to read your news. Pls don't rush into any decisions at the moment. You've both been through so much emotionally, and you physically, you need some time out ...

I was 35 at last EC. Had I think 19 eggs, and 13 fetilised ... much better fertilisation than the previous cycle ... I reckon that's because I put Df on so many supplements he rattled.

You take it easy for a while ..
