Hello Angela

I had one of the HSG Xrays - was told to take some painkillers before I came, which I did and actually, it wasn't too bad. I just felt a little bit crampy really, but nothing more major than a bit of period pains.

The tests are a nightmare aren't they - all that waiting around!! Hopefully they be able to find something conclusive on yours and you'll be all sorted.

Good Luck

Sarah :o)

Hi Angela - it's a good idea to take pain killers. I never did and found it very painful as they couldn't get the instruments in (apparantely I have a funny shaped cervix???) I agree with Sarah - it feels like a bad period pain so if you take pain killers, that should knock it on the head and when you think of why you are having it done, it makes it all worth it.
Good luck
Lots of love
Louise XXX

Hi Angela

Not sure if I had the same - an xray where they inject dye into your tubes via a catheter and watch where it goes to see if your tubes are clear?? Anyway if it is this you're having I just had period-like pains, it wasn't that bad (not compared with some of the crap I've been through since!).

I also have a 6 year old, conceived naturally, who is desperate for a brother or sister - we are now going through our second ICSI cycle.

Anyway, good luck.

Luv Rachel X

Dear Angela,

I've also had the HSG test done - it did hurt a bit, but was more uncomfortable than painful. The doctor allowed me to look at my tubes on the screen and told me there and then that they were normal - they didn't look anything like they do in the textbooks!

One piece of advice, which I've given out before on this site - take a pantyliner with you in case you bleed a little afterwards. I didn't and I was issued with a standard NHS 'brick'! It was very large and I shuffled out of the hospital to the carpark hoping I didn't bump in to anyone I knew!!

Good luck and don't worry about it too much,

Alison P

Thanks for talking about this ladies as I am due to have this on friday the 3rd of january. I nearly missed the appointment as the hospital did not call me they assured me someone would as I had to let them know when my period started as they have to do it within the first 12 days. I knew no one would call and they didn't give me any advice about pain killers either but thanks to you lot I know it now. I have a tilted cervix and it takes a good fifteen minutes to have a smear test done so I might have a few nurofen beforehand or a couple of glasses of wine.

If my tubes are fine then we can have Donor Insemination but if not then we have to pay for IVF which we cannot afford so our dream of a baby will be over. Fingers crossed.

Goodluck to us all for 2003.

lots of love nicola xxx
