letter for Terri

Post by neroli »

Thanks for your letter, I'm just wondering though, what did your doctor say was a normal hormone reading?? Also, did you wait 3 months for your ovs to get back to normal as my doctor has suggested! He told me that 5 years ago one of his patients ended up in hospital really sick and with tubes all over the place due to over stimulation!! I'm glad you told me that it doesn't really effect the next stage of going for it however I do feel rather pissed off that my doctor who apparently had all the warning signs in front of him in my file that maybe putting me on high dosage wasn't warranted!! He also told me that my normal reading of hormones was 5.8( he got this from a blood test he did during my period) and RE looking at it he now thinks he should have paid more attention to that figure and not have given me such a high dosage!! As you can imagine, we are both really disappointed that we might have to cancel the treatment. I will see him tomorrow and have a ultra scan to count the eggs I will no doubt be trashing but also to have a blood test to see how alarmingly high my hormone level is.
How long have you been trying? I read that Carol has been trying for 19 years. We've been trying ( the natural way)for nearly two years but after threating to leave my partner unless he went to the doctor to get a check out, found out that he has ultra low sperm count. He has two kids from his previous marridge (so maybe that's why he didn't think he needed to go to the doctor in the first place). I feel a great relief that I'm fine but I'm really frustrated at not only my doctor but feel really devastated that I'm now the last one of my friends who isn't pregnant!! I've sure everyone is in the same situation.
Anyway, I won't ramble on any more. I hope you both have a lovely 2003 and lookforward to hearing from you again.
Neroli

Hi Neroli
Sorry I can't remember what they said was "normal" but i wasn't made to wait 3 months. Not sure if we are talking about the same stage but basically when I started injecting the Buserelin, at the start of treatment, my hormone levels refused to drop and after 3 weeks it was reccommended that I abandon the cycle. They told me that each cycle was different and just because I didn't react that time didn't mean I wouldn't next time. I tried again (with only one cycle gap)and although my levels did start to drop, they cam down VERY slowly, even started to go back-up at one point until they doubled my dose. It took 9 weeks but eventually I could move onto the next stage and was told there would be NO impact on this phase. I went on to produce 14 follies and 9 eggs, well within "normal" guidelines.
Unfortunately, the IVF failed but by some miracle I fell pregnant naturally just before Christmas !!
DH and I have been trying to have kids for the last 3 years. I've been pg twice before but miscarried at 6 and 9 weeks so am ultra nervous this time round.
I hope you get the news you want from your doctor today and I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.
Have a very happy New Year and lots and lots of luck for you in 2003.
Love
Terri
xxxx

Dear Terri,
I've been told to trash my treatment as my hormone levels went up to 12,000!!! I have to go for a scan next week to make sure that everything is okay and in that time I"m not allowed to fly, do any sports etc etc Is my doctor being too sensitive I wonder!! However he told me that 5 years ago one patient of his got over stimulated and ended up really sick in hospital with tubes coming out all over the place!!
We are really disappointed at the results of today as I really don't feel like my hormones are 12,000 so I am really surprised that they are that high! Again he told me that I will have to wait three at least before being able to start again. I've been using the buserelin and injecting with Gonal-F and today is my 16th day of my cycle if that helps you to where I was on my treatment.
That's great news to hear that you (naturally) fell pregnant unfortunately due to our male factor, I don't very much that will happen to us (however, I do have my eye on next door's husband)(joke).
Congrats
Neroli
