Hi Debra, goooood to hear that another 40+ made it! I hope she finds this item soon!
Not really happy with my midwife but I think it is more my problem than hers.
I just will have to accept that being pregnant is not a medical issue but a natural one. Whilst getting pregnant was such a hospitalhappening...
And I am happily pregnant, the baby is moving a lot and there is nothing to complain!
Hope to greet you soon on this side, I read your fsh was okay and that this is the sign to start another cycle, fingers crossed!!!
Hi ladies. I had cyled with some of you back in March/April before all ground to a depressing halt. At that time I found out that not only was my IVF attempt -ive but that my egg factory had shut down. Anyways, we began to search for a donor, had drama and hard times but eventually found one, and guess what--I'm now pregnant (ET on July 31)!!!!! This is amazing.
I just turned 40 so feel a special bond with this group. I hope BigJ, wherever she is, is doing okay and ready to try again. I wish Debra the best of luck next month. And I hope Alette is doing wonderfully. I also hope that all the other people whom I had NOT known back in March and April are doing great.
Anyways, this is a bizarre journey we're on. Being pregnant is amazing, but I can't feel pure relief since I'm always worried about miscarriage. I'll have a scan next Tuesday that will hopefully detect the heartbeat(s) and tell if I have twins. I'll keep you updated! In the meantime, I wish the best to everyone and look forward to keeping up with my fellow "elders."
Cheers,
Donna

Donna, welcome back and a special welcome to you in this thread: pregnant 40(+)!!! You did it girl!! How wonderful, you must be over the moon !!!
So your scan is next Tuesday? Lets hope and pray you see a heartbeat! Two heartbeats would be a real wonder, but 1 would be great already !!
My fingers are crossed for you!
Yes--I have my second ultrasound on Tuesday! They already "did" me this past Tuesday (three days ago) and I saw one perfect little embryo sack. They detected another questionable entity that might or might not be a second sack. But the nurse told me that veins enlarge so much down there that they might appear like a sack. I also know from reading the 1st trimester Friends forum that there is often a twin that doesn't develop as well as their bigger sibling and ends up not being viable. Personally, I would LOVE to have twins, though I am concerned because they are associated with a higher rate of pregnancy problems and birth defects. But since DH and I know we won't go through IVF again due to age, money, and work constraints, this would be fabulous.
Anyways, hope all is going great. Alette--remind me, how far along are you?! (Little P--I saw your ticker, so I don't need to ask!)

Hello All,
Thought I'd take the plunge and join you on this thread. I had a BFP on Friday (well, Thursday if I count the hpt I did) and needless to say we're over the moon. Apparently my levels were quite high (343) so it mught be twins!!!! But of course it is really early days. Due to have my scan on 8th September so will know more then.
This was to be our last IVF as DH and I have found the whole thing soooo stressful. This cycle was full of ups and downs as they talked at tome point of cancelling and doing IUI instead as I didn't have many follicles. In the end I only had 2 eggs, both of which fertilized and were returned on 5th August, so it has been a long hard road.
Got no symptoms of anything yet and hope it stays that way.
Nice to see that there are plenty of 40+'s on this thread, best of luck to all.
Love
Debbie

I know so well where you are coming from--the joy and relief of a positive result when you KNOW this is your last attempt! We were also nearing the end of our IVF journey. Luckily, since we had used the eggs of a 20-year old, we obtained 7 frosties, so I knew we could try again--but only until those ran out. I feel elated that this worked on the first attempt (with the donor; I had already tried one IUI and one IVF), and thrilled for you too. So welcome, and I wish you the best of luck for your scan. By the way, you HCG levels DO seem high--mine were 230 8 days after ET, and 433 two days later. I thought MINE were high, and yours are much higher! For a fascinating site, which allows you to contribute your HCG data to an ongoing study AND to make comparisons between your data and that of others, go to http://www.betabase.info/index.php

I have had a previous myomectomy operation and suffer genically from high blood pressure therefore c section is recommended.
The myomectomy to remove fibriods, is a similar cut to a c section and I was told after that operation that if I did become pregnant I would have to have a c section.

Hi ladies. Just went in for an ultrasound today. One surprise was that the "possible" second sack that they had detected last week had indeed developed and proved to be a second embryo (rather than an enlarged vein). However, the doctor could not actually see the embryo or detect a heartbeat--she just saw the sack. Nevertheless, the doctor was very positive about the "big" embryo and gave all indications that it was developing perfectly. So I spent the day with my in-laws (who live in the city where I the fertility clinic is) feeling joyful and gabbing the whole time about babies. Then when I got home, just an hour or two ago, I discovered an alarming email from my doctor.
Now I must break in to explain that the doctor who does my bloodwork and ultrasound is not the same doctor who performed my IVF and who interprets my results and advises me on meds. Because we moved back to Pennsylvania recently I am a "satellite" patient at a clinic in Maryland, but my old Chicago doctor still calls the shots.
So it turns out the Chicago doctor, unlike the Maryland doctor, interpreted the ultrasound negatively. He is not only alarmed that there is a second "gestation," but feels that the first one is not developing quickly enough. This is horrible, devastating news. The doctor did say that there might be alternative explanations for the slow growth interval (other than immanent miscarriage or birth defects), and that in the end there might be nothing wrong. However, I have to wait an agonizing week before I go back for an ultrasound to see how the embryos are doing.
This is also a bit distressing since I, like Smita, am alone at the moment. DH is travelling in Mexico for the entire month. I'll try to keep my chin up, but this whole infertility thing has made me the world's worst pessimist. I now feel stupid for having allowed myself to feel so happy earlier today.
Hope all is wll with the rest of you, and don't let me get you down.
