Need Advice

Post by Tracyk »

I am in my first cycle of IVF. I got a BFP about a month ago with extremely high hormone levels. Progesterone was 624.

I went to my 7 wk scan last Monday only to not see a sac at all. Doctor was expecting that maybe the pregnancy had been absorbed but today I had a blood test and the results showed that my progesterone is still rising and Hrt hormones still doubling.

Has anyone ever had an experience like this? I keep thinking that maybe the scan was wrong but I saw it and I do not want to get my hopes up too much.

The nurse does not think it is ectopic due the high levels of progesterone so they say it is a complete mystery.

Can a scan be so completely wrong?
Has anyone had such high hormone levels and still miscarried?
Can anyone think of anything that maybe I haven't been told yet?

Please help, i am so upset and I just wish it would be over one way or another. This waiting to bleed is a nightmare but due to the high hormones I am not expected to bleed anytime soon.

Hi Tracy,
I haven't heard of this, its very strange..can you ask your clinic for a repeat scan, or is there no hope at all?(as in is there no way the scan missed out something considering your HCG is doubling?)
Wishing you the very best..
Hope you get your answers soon..
Hugs,
Smita

Hi Tracey

Like Smita, Ive not heard of this before. I know from reading others posts that some ectopics can still have normal HCG levels (not sure of progesterone levels), but I would have thought they would have diagnosed it by now if it was....
Have they only done one scan? I hope they do another to double check for you in case it was wrong.
I hope you get some answers soon, sorry I cant help.

Thank you for replying. I am really confused.

They have not diagnosed it as ectopic as it did not show up on my first scan and my progesterone levels are so high. Apparently your Pro. levels are supposed to go down with ectopic.

I am scheduled to have another scan on Monday morning although I am not sure what they are looking for.

I have been thinking about this all day (I'm in Aust. & it's 8pm over here) & the only thing I could think of is that maybe the baby is still alive but has not grown enough for the scan to show. Which I know if that is the case than it is unlikely that the baby will survive much longer. (I have no idea if it is even possible for the baby to survive that long without growing). The only other possible thing i can think of is that it is ectopic and my progesterone levels have no idea what they are doing or that they totally missed something on the scan.

Thanks for reading this as it is a comfort to know that there are people out there who may not be going through this same experience but still care.

If you think of anything let me know. Thanks Again!!!

Good luck for Monday - I sincerely hope the first scan was wrong and you find a lovely baby on Monday. I think it's quite rare not to be able to see the sac, yolk and little embryo as its quite big on the scan even at 7 weeks but I could imagine it is possible if the scanner is not experienced and isn't entirely sure where to look - it took our consultant about 5 mins to find ours and we couldn't make anything out without him pointing everything out for us so it's sounds possible.

Best of luck,
Cherylxx

Hi Tracey,
Sounds like a real mystery to me as well (sorry, nothing terribly helpful from me). Wanted to say good luck for Monday. What clinic are you going to?, I'm from South East Qld and go through QFG. We have an Aussie / Kiwi thread that you would be more than welcome to come along to at any time.
All the best

Hi Tracy, your very close to me. I'm in Blacktown so i'm going to Westmead IVF Clinic. Sorry I can't help you, this is my first time trying IVF as well. I wish you all the best though and hopefully you'll have some positive answers tomorrow. I know the waiting is a killer isn't it? Join the Aussie/Kiwi forum for sure. I did, just recently and they're a great bunch in there.

All the best
