Accupuncture

Post by Ellie »

Hi
I was just wondering what your experiences of accupuncture were?
I have had 6 tmts mainly with a view to reducing my FSH level. However althoughn after 2 tmts it did come down it is now higher than ever! I am wondering whether the tmts are actually having any effect at all.
I have noticed that AF is now lighter and shorter and my cycle length has reduced, it was always spot on 30 days before.
Any comments would be gratefully recieved.

Ellie - I would talk to your acu doc about this...I have read (and experienced) that acu takes atleast 3 months for an impact   At first the acu worked wonders on my monthly cramps and then last AF was AF from hell...I was in pain for almost 2 weeks and I felt like someone kept beating me up. After speaking with my doc and several other people...with acu (or anyother homeopathic meds) - you get worse before you get better. I am hoping last month I hit rock bottom. All I can recommend with acu ..is to be patient it is not a miracle overnight cure.

In regards to FSH and stabilizing your hormones...have you looked into a liver detoxification diet? I have done a 7 day diet already and feel it has done my body a world of good. I don't have hormone problems but looked into the diet after reading the Zita West book. I then have bought several other books on this topic. In short, your liver detoxifies and recirculates hormones...when the liver gets stressed well....things go a little wacky and can really screw up hormone levels. We (some girls on the board) are starting a detox on Thursday if you would like to join us...hop on down to Healthy Minds, Healthy Bodies ..and there you will find all sorts of info. Also to read more do an internet search on Liver Detoxification Diet..lots of good reading.

Thanks Tracii
I have been following most of Zitas advice about diet to lower FSH levels. Did think about the detox diet and might do it soon. We are going away tommorow until tuesday so this may not be the best time to try!!!!!
Will talk to the accupuncturist tonight as I have an appointment.

Ellie, there was a thread or two about acu very recently. If you've time, try scrolling down this page and perhaps half of the text. Lots of people shared their experience of acu with mixed results.

What was/is your FSH? I had 14.4 in January but only 8.9 in Feb. I don't know that anything I did helped bring it down but I tried my best and at least felt I was doing my bit. I ate very heathily (lots of tofu, almonds and broccoli), cut out alcohol and caffeine + went to the gym a lot (which doesn't fit with Zita's advice I know).

Hi Ellie

As Debra's said, there are a couple of other recent threads on Acu already.

I've been going now, for maybe 10-12 weeks - I dunno, I've lost count.

I've got to tell you that's it's really messed up my cycle :

*I was always within a day or two of 28 days. I'm sat here tonight 5 days late for this AF.
*Last month I had the worst cramps I've had for a long time - throwing up, diarrhoea, the lot
* On last 2 cycles the actually bleed has become almost non-existent - which I don't think can be good for me

On reflection, it may not have been such a good idea .. ?

Ellie,

Tracii is right it can take up to 3 months...I did change my acupunctureist cos I wasn't happy with the first guy. Talk to him and see what he says.
Good luck.

debra- the detox diet sounds like a good idea. Will read the thread but don't plan to start until a week from now.Have already started eating cabbage beans ect. DF says I am stinking of garlic..

it sounds like you have had a hell of a time on acu...

It's Amazing cos I have been going on and off for 5 years for various things like endometriosis and other things ( long story) and find it is wonderful for PMT and regulating emotions, especially my anger and frustration..(liver stuff).

Just shows you that although we all want the same result we are all differant...

Have you tried any other therapies? What about Kinesiology? A holistic approach that works via testing muscles and balancing the body energy. I've been going to that for 4 years every 6-9wks...it works wonders on negativity and pain. helped me more that acu with the grief and loss side of emotions as well as balancing hormones.

Good luck all

I spoke to the accupuncturist last night and she was surprised with the result, we have agreed to give it another month.
I agree it is very good for stress and pmt and it relaxes me like nothing else.

Jen
I am there with you on the beans and cabbage , I have been doing the Zita diet for about 2 months now and begining to get a bit fed up of it especially as it is not helping.

I am over last months disspointment and ever optomistic about next month :?

Thank Jen .. No, I haven't thought about any other sort of therapy .. I am a little reluctant to give up the Acu as I think it's helping me feel a little less tired (although b*ggering other things up). Em .. will have to think deeply about it ..

Just got home from work and feel kak so think will go to bed - for a while at least .. Thanks for the info ..
