Sorry I dont know which books to buy as my midwife gave me some good ones, with everything I need to know in them. I know K has bought some so shes best to advise I think.
I do know that we are just as 'normal' as ordinary women though, because we only have trouble concieving so we dont follow any special rules after the IVF bit.
Little P - Youre officially in the 2nd tri now, so why dont you join us?
Have a great day

Smita, just to cause confusion...I have the 'What to Expect ' books, both for pg and first 12m. Both are fabulous resouces albeit on the serious and factual side. No laughing with these. The book that made me LOL was 'Best Friend's Guide to Pg' which I really liked. It was a lot more 'chatty' and upfront with the icky, sticky, ugh things that don't get discussed so much elsewhere.

Hi Smita

Im working fulltime this week, so cant come online as often as normal!
Ive had to stop myself buying any more pregnancy books as I got a bit addicted and was spending too much.
I have the 'What to expect when you're expecting' and I really like that one. Ive found it very informative. My other favorite is 'Your pregnancy week by week' by Lesley Regan.
I also have 'The best friends guide to' by Vicki Iovine which Debra mentioned and is just as she says! So its a different type of read, but informative all the same.
I also have Miriam Stoppards 'Conception, pregnancy and birth' (This was bought for me by friend, so didnt have to shell out for it!). It is very informative on a lot of things but I was a bit disappointed because certain things I looked up werent mentioned (Such as AF type pains/abdo pains we have nearly all experienced). I have borrowed a book from the library called 'The new pregnancy and childbirth' by Sheila Kitzinger (Might be more updated since). I really liked this one and have kept renewing it!
Another book I have been lent is 'The alternative pregnancy handbook' by Dr Tanvir Jamil & Karen Evennett. This is good at giving advice on alternative treatments such as homeopathy, herbs etc in pregnancy.
I have also bought my DH 'The blokes guide to pregnancy' by 'Jon Smith' which looks good (Keep reminding him to read it! I think he finds it good though!). I also have a pregnancy book produced by the National Health Service (NHS-in UK) which was given to me by my midwife. It is very good. I wasnt given it until I saw her at 14 wks pg. Might have stopped me buying so many.
Phew! Cant believe how many Ive got. Just wait till I start on the baby books!
Hope that helps!
Love kim

Hi Ladies,

I've missed chatting with all of you as I was on vacation last week. Sounds like everyone is doing pretty well at this point. I have found the books to be good resources as the OB's don't seem to talk about much except if you have questions. I'm having my next checkup this Thursday where I will have the Glucose Challenge Test and other blood tests. Getting a little nervous as time is flying by. DH and I ordered our Nursery Furniture last week which really made things feel more incredible.

Good thoughts go out to all December mommies-to-be!

Hi all

Well I'm back from having my Nuchal Scan and it was absolutely amazing. Little One was moving around so much and there were fingers and feet in evidence - the marvels are technology and nature together :D

Nuchal Scan was a success - very glad we've done it - I am low risk which is great, in fact the stats should be 1:450 and they came out as 1:2500 which is fantastic, so DH and I are over the moon.

Anyway hope that you are all ok.

Big hugs - off to have something to eat

Little P

Glad to hear your scan went well Little P! I have my next scan in a week or so. It will be the in-depth one where all the measurements are taken. I am really looking forward to this.

So my question for everyone is what color are you painting the baby's room???

Although I am not finding out the sex of our baby, we are painting it an aquamarine blue. Someone said it was a Beatrice Potter blue.

HI all,
have this horrible pull(dont know if its a pull or pain) down my left side- in the lower abdomen area.. its hurting in certain positions,I've been calling the doc since morning, but the number is busy.. Going out of my mind with worry.. I know that by the time any of you responds to this,It'lll be at least 4 hours considering the time difference, but just wanted to write as I feel I'm doing something instead of sittng around worrying...
I know af like pains are normal, but this isn't af like..its like a pull..
God, the worrying never ever stops!
Hope everyone else is fine..
Sher, Good luck with your scan..
Love,
smita.

Sher - With DD (Abby) we painted the room lemon as that was a neutral colour and I didnt trust that it would defineatley be a girl, but with this one we are going to find out the sex and hopefully as I have to be scanned every 4 weeks the sex will be defineate so blue for a boy and pink for a girl. When Abby was 18 months she wanted it changed to pink so you'll have to redecorate anyway as soon as your bubs gets its independence, so make the most of making choices for him / her now, coz Abby is only 4 but refuses to wear lots of clothes unless she has chosen them herself!

Smita - Glad your pain is better I had a similar pain and the midwife said it could be either pulling / stretching or trapped wind! At least its gone now so hopefully you'll be OK now.

Only 8 days til my scan, I cant wait to tell Abby she is gonna get a sister or brother she loves babies so much, she'll be over the moon. I'm only looking at the positives now coz I was going crazy

Hope everyone else is OK

Hi everyone

Little P-Welcome to the 2nd trimester! Fantastic news on your nuchal scan!
You can rest easy now (For a little-im afraid there is always something to worry about, well, Im prone to worrying anyway!) Great to have you here.

Smita - Although you are probably ok now, im sure that you have nothing to worry about. Ive had stretching/pains on both the left and right side for the last few weeks on and off. I was worrying about these pains in the last few days as especially on the right side it felt quite painful. However, after reading that wonderful book 'What to expect when you are expecting' it explained that as long as these pains are not constant and theres no bleeding etc, it is just ligaments stretching. It says these pains can be sharp or crampy, can last a few hours and may tend to affect you more such as when you stand up. I tend to get less AF type pains nowadays. If you havent bought it yet, you must get that book! It saved me having a nervous breakdown last night! Read on.......

I was convinced yesterday that something was wrong because I wasnt feeling nauseous and wasnt sure if I had felt the baby move/kick. I got myself into a right state. Anyway, that book is a godsend! It answered all my questions. It said not to worry if you dont feel anything for 3 or 4 days at this stage as the movements are so light. It also says that you might not notice them if you are also kept busy. It also answered my questions on the side pains (as above) and even showed me pictures of 3 women and how they might be carrying in the fifth month. (I had also started worrying at the weekend after seeing another woman at a christening I went to who was due approx same time as me and her bump looked bigger). Anyway, got my prayers answered this morning when I got up, felt really nauseous and couldnt stop been sick!!! I have only been sick once before when I was 5 weeks pg! Felt nauseous all day and also felt some light kicks. Am I the only one who is happy to continue with the nausea?!! Feel much better now, but will probably have something else to worry about soon.......

Susie - your DD sounds just like my friend's 4 yr old. They have to pin her down to dress her at the moment, she is so particular about her clothes!

Hope everyone else is ok. Sher-we have painted our 'nursery' (Still cant believe it!) yellow. I think we are going with a Winnie the Pooh theme.

Take care
Love Kim

Thanks for the welcome Kim - I've read so many different versions as to when the official beginning of the Second Trimester is - I have to say it ranges from 12-14 weeks. I have always been told 12 weeks so wanted to stay with that feeling.

I keep getting single hiccups at the moment, apparently this is caused because Little One is moving around quite a lot. When we went to the scan yesterday, we were both shocked to see how much movement went on - and yes, I cried again!!!

Hope that you are all ok.

Little P

Had the 20 week anomoly scan today was so nervous after having the 1-150 triple blood test result but everything looked fine no problems with anything so even though I know it is not 100% it has still made me feel a lot better and I am going to enjoy this pregnancy now instesd of worrying all the time, all my sickness has gone (vomiting 3 times a day)and my headaches I have more energy and feel great!!!
I don't know if everyone else has felt or still feeling this but I have had anxiety since the day I started sniffing bursulin then I think the positive result will stop the anxiety but it had only just began lokking back in hindsight. This is the first time I have let myself imagine holding my baby and thinking of buying baby things I feel on top of the world!!!
