I'll definately join you guys eating healthily - am I allowed to drink decaf tea and coffee? I've been drinking it since jan this year.
Had a bowl of museli this morning and my work colleague and I are swapping mid morning biscuits for apples.
Joined the gym last night so feel healthy .. but stiff
Go for it on your detox you healthy bunnies!!!!!!

That would be great eskavon, WE are going to be soooooo Heathy and soooo detoxed..

Great that you have started healthy eating today...it sounds sooo healthy musili and apples. What gym class did you do? or was it machines?
I hate the first couple of weeks at the gym it's such a slog working with the pain barrier. Top marks for you though. When are you going back for the next round?

On the tea and coffee front...Zita says decaf is even worse that normal!!!! The process causes more of the chemicals to be left in the decafineated product.
Other teas such as herbal can be used or dandilion coffee from health food shops.
There is a type of tea called REDBUSH or ROBOSH that you can buy in many supermarkets. It's natually decaffinated and is the one I like and is okay to drink.

Of course these are only guidelines you can drink whatever you want.

You ladies help me be more postive about eating well. thanks

GOOD LUCK EVERY ONE...

We are on our way :D :D :D

Debra - I wouldn't worry about Sat. night...another book I have is if you indulge with alcohol to drink tons of water before going to bed and take vitamin B.

Your grocery lists sounds awesome...I will go shopping tomorrow...just got into Munich and need to head out the door so no time...but also good because I have no bad food in the house.

This AM I had muesli with rice milk and for lunch poached egg with spinach..tonight stir fry veggies.

To our health!! 8)

Hi there....Fellow Healthy Eaters and Detox Demons (or Divas)....

Doing OK so far. Breakfast was so:so = spelt flakes with raisins, mixed seeds, almonds and soymilk (the latter was truly foul) + apple juice + detox tea (also foul).

Lunch was a slice of rye bread with fresh h'made veg soup (1 x aubgergine/egg plant, 2 x broccoli, 4 x mushroom, 2 x tomato, 1 x onion, 3 x garlic, 10 x basil leaves, 0.5 green bell pepper, 4 x carrot and 0.30 green cabbage). It desperately needed stock or salt but never mind. I'll be eating the soup for at least 2 more days...

Dinner will be poached white fish, steamed veg + brown/wild rice + almond slithers then fruit.

On the exercise front, I just swam 1.5kms/60 lengths of which I'm very proud. I also cycled to, then jogged at, the physio's office, cycled to the pool and then back with shopping in the basket. Off for a walk. All this activity will reduce sharply next week when I start work again.

Hope everyone is doing really well on our collective Day One.

hugs
Debra.

One more joined our detox! Yay! Welcome Eskavon! And about the gym soreness -Sweetie, it will pass! Drink LOTS of water to help your muscles recover and don't give up. I don't believe in killer work outs (people burn out and stop going), but if you are consistent, 30 minutes a day is enough. I watch my favorite sit-com while I work out. When it's over, I'm done!

I am thanking God that I got off the caffeine last week. I think it made this easier somehow.

Breakfast - screwed up TOTALLY and had orange juice! My dh and I have been drinking the same high protein breakfast shakes for years now, and it has oj in it. Out of shear habit I made his full shake and my half at the same time and DRANK IT before I realized. I had even made sure I had GRAPEFRUIT juice to substitute and spaced it!!! Oh well. I'm not giving up. I'll get it right tomorrow.

Lunch - homemade tuna salad (tiny bit of ff mayo) on tomato wedges.
Supper - baked chicken breast, organic greenbeans, brown rice

And I actually LOVE drinking the water with lemon! It's just my kind of drink and I've had 64 oz so far today. It was easy!

Exercize: (my usual)
Treadmill
Hand weights
Crunches/Squats
Plus today was my "maid" day where I clean the whole house and do all the laundry, bedsheets. Up and down two flights of stairs all day.

You know, I had lots of energy and wasn't even hungry today. But now that I think about it, I took a B12 complex vitamin (the kind you have to disolve under your tongue bc we don't absorb through our stomachs). My out-of-town guest brough them, as she works for a company called tri-vita that makes (and patents) all kinds of vitamin supplements. WOW! And it could be my imagination but my ears feel better! Hardly any ringing!

Sorry to ramble. I just feel really good. Could change before our week is out. Too soon for this to be from the detox, I think. (?)

Everyone else seems to be doing excellent! Lots of good, healthy eating and exercize goin' on round here!!!

Can you feel the toxins in our bodies packing their bags?

DAY 2
hey to all the healthy eaters and detox demons/divas

Randa...
GO GIRL! You are brimming with energy and life...Your post leapt out of the page at me....it had that much energy!
And a tiny bit of OJ on day 1 won't cause any probs...I was eating chewing gum after my lunch yesterday to clean my teeth, I realised later on that that is sugar, and sweetener and so a no no. Teething problems...

Debra...your doing great girl...60 lengths, a cycle and jogging!!!! Then a walk....so good... your but will be well toned!. As for next week can you not go a walk in your lunch hour? Enjoy your saturday night you deserve it.

tracii- We are on our way

Big J- How did you get on?

Eskavon- How are you ?

I did well yesterday too. Eating the food was fine. I've had no problems so far just had nuts and seeds for snacks inbetween meals. I had a great meal at my friends with grilled fish brocolli and brown rice then apricots. They all had profiterols for sweet...choc and cream choe (shoe) pastry....mmmmn. But i felt SOOOOOO GOOD sticking to my healthy eating plan. ( don't like calling it a detox diet i feel that as soon as I sayDIET that I am missing out on something and want it all the more).
I did miss my mega strong coffee in the morning...but have managed without so far. The headaches from the down reg are still there but was at physio yesterday. It helped relieve the build up of stressin my neck and skull , which thank goodness has gone so my head is much better today.

GO ON HEALTHY EATERS AND DETOXERS...WE ARE SO GOOD!!!

2 successful days down :D :D Today I ate ALOT but of course all good stuff so I don't feel bad. I started with the muesli and rice milk (which isn't bad..not much taste and pretty watery consistency), then for lunch I hardboiled eggs and mushed 'em up then added tomatoes, lots of parsely, then topped it off with linsen sprouts, for dinner veggie stry fry sans brown rice..stir fry consisted of carrots, red peppers, red onion, garlic, cabbage, ginger, and chilis...really delicious with all the fresh flavors..oh and added coriander at the end to give it even more flavor.

Tomorrow night we have dinner out but I know the restaurant..will order fish with veggies.

MIL gave me an article which was in the London Times regarding detox diets....it mentioned that strenuous exercise would slow the detox process down...puts extra stress on the liver...and that you should chew your food 50 times or until it is basically paste  The article also mentioned the detox helps with fertility :D

I think the toughest part of doing this...is you forget what you really put in your body...like Jen I wanted a breath freshner today and went into my purse and was like oops I can't have that...will have to chew on mint leaves instead :D

Here is to healthy detoxing :D :D and a wonderful weekend :D :D

Traci, sounds like you're on form, well done!

Thanks for the extra tips. I'd decided earlier that too much swimming was probably counter-productive so only swam 1km which took no time and is what I'll do next week too. I did cycle there albeit slowly + walked a bit later.

So far today: same spelt breakfast but with rice-milk which is a gazillion times nicer than soy. Snacked on fruit, lunch was veggie soup again and I'm about to make an organic egg Spanish omelette with garlic, mushrooms, toms, peas, a little potato and a salad. I'm very hungry so need to fill up otherwise I'll snack on dates and seeds all night.

Off to visit some of DF's family tomorrow (before our big meal out), they won't be impressed by my not eating any of the inevitable cakes. Norwegians are deeply traditional in some ways and it's a point of honour that visitors always receive h'made cakes or waffles + fruit/berries/jam + cream. If I'm lucky there'll be some berries....

Anyone know if tuna is white fish?? I suspect it's not but am not sure.

Hope everyone is feeling healthy?
Debra.

ohhhhh..the Spanish omlette sounds yummy...very good idea, I think I will make this next week. Luckily DH is travelling (was this planned???) :D so I can eat and not worry about his dinner :D . I think with the exercise it is ok...I think the idea is to not go out and run marathons. I am not sure about tuna being white fish or not....I will have sea bass tomorrow night - it is my fav dish at the restaurant anyway so I don't feel too put out.

OK here is another excerpt from the article:
'Mayrs theory was that most people have years of semi-digested food sitting around in their gut. Just think of the fridge when you get back from holiday. All that rotting food creates a cycle of poor digestion, filling your body with toxins, which puff you up and slow down the next intake of food.'

Made me think ...I really fo tend to gobble my food in a ladylike manner - and my acu doc said that I have really poor digestion (weak stomache)..so I am hoping these detoxes are helping empty the fridge...no - it will empty the fridge (PMA). :D :D :D

Debra - Tuna ? White fish ? I think not ! In fact, I know that Tuna has high mercury levels and should'n't eat more that 2 or 3 portions a week, but was reading something (!?!?!?! can't remember what - but I will do) that we sholudn't be eating ANY. I had a tuna sandwich on grained bread for lunch .. love the stuff ..)...

Eskavon - As Jen says, Zita says Decaf (coffee at least) is shocking !! lots of carcinogens ... I've bought some decaf tea to try, but it's utterly disgusting ... Will have to give it to my grandma (she'll drink anyting going free) ..

I'm really impressed by this thread .. well done girls ..

oh Sandra, sigh....re. the tuna. I love it too and am struggling with all other fish except salmon (which isn't white either). I did try bass in Sicily and it was WONDERFUL - to anyone not itimately familiar with my life ( ), I only started eating fish + sea-food this year after nearly 20 years of never touching it. It's taking some time to get used to it all again as I'm so pathetic about bones....

Traci, the omelette was fab....enjoy your bass tomorrow. The resturant we're off to tomorrow doesn't have a menu, you get 5 courses (+ 5 inbetweens) of whatever the chef decided looked best, we've told them no meat so we'll see what we're given. It's always been spectacular, just as well, it's the best restaurant in town and costs an arm and a leg....

How did everyone else do today? standing firm??

Debra - Only last week my fishmonger showed how bones could be taken out of a salmon fillet, but not out of a salmon steak ... i dunno .. technique maybe ?? The fillet I had this week was superb .. no bones at all .... you should be the best guys shouldn't you ? Norwegian salmon and all of that ? (I'm only jesting - I know it doesn't really mean that much ...
