First time IVF

Post by Dory »

Hi I'm Dory and this is all very new to me, well the IVF part...

I'm 34 years young and after 6 previous failed pregnancies of all different natures, i have been told i can no longer have a baby naturally.

So we are down to our last resort, IVF and to be honest, i'm not all that hopeful about this succeeding :|

We moved to Ohio in Jan this year and i feel we are in the best place medically, so i hold out more hope over here than what i would do if we were still in the UK, over there they wouldn't even look at me for 2 years.

I have previously had 3 miscarriages, 2 ectopics and one neo natal death.

I lost one of my tubes from the 1st ectopic and my other tube is so badly damaged after the second ectopic that if i was to get pregnant again naturally it would be a 90% chance of another ectopic.

At the moment i feel very confused and scared  , as i've finally realised this is my last hope of having a baby of my own.

Well we find out if we start the whole procedure on the 1st day of my next cycle which is due next week.

So till then lucky dust for you all 8)

Hi Dory and welcome. You've come to the right place for people who understand although for many natural pregnancies were never going to happen and IVF their first resort, not last.

The good news is your tubes won't make any difference at all to your chances of success. You already know you're both fertile which is a huge thing for many on here. You might not feel like it right now but you've got a lot going for you. Believe me.

If tmt is about to begin, why not join in the chat on the September Buddies thread over on The General Forum? lots of us starting tmt and getting ready. It helps to talk it through and share.

Debra (who like quite a few, was first time lucky with IVF, it happens on here every single month, no reason it can't be you).
Me: 44, DH: 31
Game Over.
Dates: Aug 02 - May 06
Tries: 5 fresh + 4 frozen.
Results: 1 daughter, 2 m/c, 1 ectopic.

HI Dory,
Like Debra says,
you can be first time lucky too- I got pregnant with my first ivf after 4 failed iui's.
Welcome to this site and wish you lots of luck with you IVF..
The process is emotionally draining( more so than natural tries for prenancy) and you can look forward to a lot of support during it here on this site.

Hi Dory - Welcome. I haven't checked the General Forum for a few days, so don't know if you've since posted. Once you get going, IVF's really not as bad as everyone makes out ... Why not arm yourself with info about fertility and conception - Zita West's book of the same title .. It includes a section on Assisted Conception. I'm sure you'll feel a lot happier about the situation once you've read up, and chatted on here ..

Good luck !

(Debra - Zita's gonna be rich one day ... I think we're due a cut ?!)
