Premature Menopause

Post by Lee »

Hi

I am 34 and have been trying for a baby for over 3 years. I have recently been told that I am probably going through premature menopause, I have high FSH levels and menopausal symptoms, am currently taking clomid but with no result. Has anyone else been through premature menopause? Can't stop crying at the moment, was offered IVF before FSH level was so high but turned it down to give the clomid a go first, have I left the IVF option too late now??

Has anyone else had a similar experience? What happened to you?

Thanks

Hi Lee

Sorry to read you're having a tough time at the moment.

I'm sure there are others around at the moment who can relate to just how you're feeling. I hope you get some positive info and support.

Your question about whether you've left IVF too late ..? You don't say what level your FSH is at, and each clinic has their own cut off point, but I understand that with a level of 17> there is a very poor response to IVF.

Zita West, Midwife, suggests ways of possibly reducing FSH levels (although there is no conventional medication available). Also, she says that levels fluctuate naturally. We would suggest reading her book "Fertility and Conception", which is packed full with great info.

I think there have been one or two other threads on the subject of FSH recently, on the General Forum. I'll go and have a look and bring them back to the top for you.

Good luck Lee ..

FSH Thread?

Post by Lee »

Dear Sandra

Thankyou for your reply, I dont know anyone who is having the same problems as me or who are going through IVF so it is nice to talk to others who are. My FSH level was at 22 at the last blood test and it appears to be steadily rising on each test. You said there was a whole thread where high FSH girls have got together, what is this and how do I join them? Have only joined this site today so not completely familiar with it. How can I access the chat forum? I will have a look at the book you mentioned, thanks again.

Hi Lee

I have just been reading through a few old posts, and came across yours, not sure if you have joined the general forum, (High FSH)

Anyway you stated you didn't klnow anyone else who was going through Premature Menopause, well I am, I am only 25 as well, I went through IVF in June 05, got a positive result but sadly miscarried, I did this with an FSH level of 13.5, now my doctor didn't think I would get that far.

I am on my 2ww again at the moment, only had ET yesterday, my FSH level this time round had gone right up to 23.7, doctors wanted to abandon the cycle, but I was having non of it, they didn't think I would resond to the stim drugs, but I got 8 nice size follies, 8 eggs, 5 fertilized, I had 2 of the best Embies put back in me yesterday...

So, I know it is awful for us to experience going through the menopause early, but there is still hope, I read somewhere that a lady got pregnant with FSH level of 68, so it can happen...!!

Good luck with everything, hope all goes well.....

If you want to chat more about early menopause or FSH levels then you can email me privatley if you like at lu.r@handbag.com
