Donna, poor you with all that throwing up. I spent my first pg in a school but as a 2st grade assistant so luckily could just up and leave the room if I needed to.

You know about Dopplers don't you? the hand-held machine to listen to the baby's heartbeat? I've read mixed opinions, some love them and the reassurance others stress on the days when the heartbeat is hard to detect and then wonder if they're such a good idea.

Good luck all you pg ladies...
Debra.

Lost my baby's heartbeat again measuring 8 weeks. No more insurance or money for IVF but have 3 frozen. Told my risk of another m/c after 3 in a row is "very high". Don't know if I can even try again.

Lisa,

This is so awful. I'm grieving for you, and hoping that you can still try again. I've had a horrible week myself (hemorhaging) but am, thankfully, still pregnant. However, I'm all too aware of how fragile pregnancy is. Have strength, and let us know how you're doing.

Hello All,
What a worrying time this is. I'm sooo soory for those of you who have had bad news. I can only imagine how awful I would feel if this happened to me.
I had my first scan on Thursday and saw one little heartbeat so am now very excited - but also very anxious that things will still go wrong as I'm only 7 weeks and 1 day.
Have another scan in 2 weeks so that will be reassuring.
Don't have any morning sickness but do get a bit queezy in the afternoon (thought I was going to throw up yesterday afternoon in work!!!!)
Also feeling really tired. Going to have a nap this afternoon.
It's really nice to have support on here - just as important as it was while going through the treatment.

Take care all

Love

Debbie and all,

Fabulous news! So you aren't carrying twins (as you had wondered in your earlier message)? At any rate, it's very nice that you'll get another ultrasound in two weeks since they're so reassuring.

As for me, I was a bit down in the dumps for the past week. On Monday I started hemorrhaging. It was severe bleeding, with clots and gunk. I was absolutely convinced I had miscarried. But I want you all to know that our bodies are weird and we don't always know what's going on. When I had an ultrasound the next day I discovered that not only was embryo A still intact, growing right on schedule, with a strong heartbeat, but embryo B (the non-viable one) had grown a little (though still no heartbeat). That negated my doctor's theory that the bleeding was my body's attempt to get rid of the non-viable embryo.

This has been a confusing and stressful incident. Bleeding like that can't be good, and I don't know what's going on with embryo B. So although I'm thrilled not to have miscarried I'm very, very worried. Moreover, I haven't been given any answers my doctor, who hasn't communicated with me at all after the positive ultrasound, other than to have his nurse tell me to continue my meds and have another ultrasound. I decided that I'm in the wrong hands--at 8 weeks I should no longer be conferring with a reproductive endocrinologist but with an obstetrician--preferably one who specializes in high-risk pregnancy. That way I can get answers on what's going on with the second embryo, on why I bled, and on whether the bleeding will jeopardize the development of my precious baby. So I got on the phone and convinced the obstetrical group (where I had my first appointment set for October 6th) to see me this Wednesday. They'll give me another ultrasound and hopefully some expert insight.

Anyways, that is my latest saga. I hope everyone else's pregnancy is going great. Is it true that the second trimester is a joy--you have more energy, less nausea, less worrying, great sex? I hope so.

Cheers,
Donna

Hello All,
Things are still going fine with me. Main symptom is fatigue in the evenings. No reall sickness to speak of (a bit queezy in the afternoon but nothing too bad at all). My Mum told me that she didn't really have any sickness with her two pregnancies so I'm hoping that this is just going to be the same for me.

Donna - you have had such a worrying time. Glad that your scan shows that things are ok. Guess you may never get satisfactory answers, perhaps the doctors will never know why you had the bleeding. I guess the main thing is that embryo A is still hanging on in there and the embryo B has grown. I hope you've got the opportunity to rest up and look after yourself.

Take care

Love

Debbie & others,

Great that you're doing so well! I had a scan on Wednesday and the little wee one was moving! The doctor was very positive, so I now feel much better about things. I'm actually starting to enjoy being pregnant. My pants are getting tight--probably because I started my pregnancy 5 pounds heavier than I should've been. So I had a fun day shopping for pants and skirts a few sizes bigger than normal. I figure that from here on in I'll just keep getting bigger and bigger, so I opted for stuff that was QUITE loose and roomy. It was fun. I wonder whether I can get away with buying large-size clothes rather than maternity clothes? Anyways, since I hope to work up to my due date I need to deal with the clothing issue.

Lots of happy baby thoughts!

Donna, great news that you've had some more reassurance this week. It is scary and changing clinics and ob. support sounds like a really good move.

You asked about 2nd trimester. Overall, I had a relatively easy pg. Lots of queasiness in the first trimester, a few upchuckings but nothing too serious. I bled suddenly for 3 days in the 14th week which took me aback and meant a week off work which was scary as I'd assumed I was out of the main 'risk' area (although I was told there's nothing concrete about 12 weeks being any safer than weeks 10-15, it's just an average that's become a benchmark).

Re. your Q about "you have more energy, less nausea, less worrying, great sex?". Yes, I had a good 2nd trimester after the bleeding scare, certainly plenty of energy and good moods, less nausea, gradually less worry re. m/c - but to be completely honest, it was replaced by waiting to feel the baby move and then, once she did eventually make her presence known (ca.20 weeks), worrying about whether I'd felt movement or not recently. And yes I relaxed sufficiently to enjoy sex again. My greatest bugbear looking back was heartburn which was terrible. Night after night unable to sleep with it. It does also get hard/uncomfortable to sleep later on although I wasn't very big - I shot out at 4m and looked v.pg v.early but then stayed like that for most of the pgy, I got a little bigger just before she was born but how I looked at 4-5m and 8m were pretty similar.

The thing about maternity trousers is they often have handy elastic/expanders in the waist than can be pulled in/let out as you need them. Plus the 'give' is in front vs. all round. Regular but larger clothes won't have the same flexibility.

Debbie, glad to see you're doing well :)

Alette and Caroline, I hope you're both feeling very well indeed!

Enjoy your pregnancies ladies :D I'm looking forward to my next one!

hugs
Debra.

Debra,

Thanks so much for your message! It was great to hear about your second-trimester experiences. Actually I still have three weeks to go (I hit the ten-week mark this past Tuesday), but it's good to look ahead. Still feeling pretty sick, but I think it's subsiding.

Have you begun your tmt yet? If so, I hope it's going well. I'll be keeping my fingers crossed!

Hope all you other pregnant 40+ women are doing great!

Hi to all

Had a 32 week scan today and everything is trucking along nicely. It seems, so far, that difficulties in conceiving have resulted in a relatively easy pregnancy. Baby is moving around and is now approx 4lbs and expected to be around 7.5lbs at delivery.

With 7 weeks to go until the C Section, we have finally placed orders for stroller, nursery furniture, car seat and started decorating bedrooms in readiness for our new arrival.

The next big thing will be to buy some clothing for the baby, nappies and feeding equipment, but will leave that until I start maternity leave at the beginning of November.

Indigestion seems to have eased off as the baby has dropped slightly, but it now wakes me with proper kicks at 3.00am when it does not like MY sleeping position!

Hope everyone else is feeling well and starting to get excited for this dramatic change of lifestyle which is fast approaching.

Hi Caroline

Glad to hear that everything is going well & that the scan showed a nice healthy sized baby.

We have our 32 week scan next Tuesday & hope to hear that the twins have put on some more weight (they were both around the 2lb 7oz mark at 27+ weeks). Should also get some idea as to if & when they plan to carry out the c-section. Can't believe how fast time has gone recently.

We bought a double buggy, car seats, Moses baskets etc at the weekend but like you have held off buying clothes, we want to get some idea of what size to buy initially.

DH has been busy at work trying to clear the decks for November when my official maternity leave starts. He's away for 3 nights at a conference now & has promised this will be the last one he will attend - he works in events marketing.

Like you, the heartburn seems to be subsiding slightly but I've had a nasty cough for the last 10 days which I just can't shift. Poor babies can't be getting much peace & quiet so they're taking it out on me with a some hefty kicks in the ribs & bladder!

Alette - haven't heard from you for a while, hope everything is going well.

Jude
