1st Egg Retrieval - nervous!

Post by Luluxbx »

Hi, My name is Lulu and I am 32. I am having my first egg retrieval for my first IVF cycle tomorrow :D .

I am very excited about it, but nervous about what it is going to be like? E.g. does it hurt???

Hopefully it will all go ok and we will get a decent result.

Any advice would be gratefully received.

Hi Lulu B ... Welcome to the Site and glad you've found us !!

Do you know what anaesthic you'll have (ie. sedation or a general) ?

I've only ever had a general, and obviously didn't know anything about it.

It sounds like you might be going for sedation ? Many girls here have reported to knot really remembering much about it. Something like a dream, but not really knowing the details later.

One thing that is common though - if you have quite a lot of follies - you can expect to feel some discomfort during the subsequent days. On each occassion I've been walking around bent double, with bad stomach pains, for 7 days after EC. It's nothing to worry about - just your follies sorting themselves out.

Just make sure you get lots of rest between EC and ET (to prepare your body as much as poss).... then take it real easy for a few days after ET .. Give Tracii on the General Forum 'Sept Test Thread' your test date, and she'll add you to the list so everyone can cheer you on.

Tomorrow's nothing to worry about (there are many, many of us that have lived to tell the tale !) ... Good luck !!

Hi Lulu,

i had EC with sedation and painkillers. Nothing to worry about, like Sandra said. Little discomfort but no great pain. Fell asleep inbetween.

Best of luck for 2morrow.

Thanks for the replies! Feel a lot happier now. :D

Still a bit worried, I guess its not knowing what will happen, I just hope they manage to get some eggs and that they fertilise. No reason why they shouldn t i guess. They are going to decide tomorrow, whether we do IVF or ICSI.

will let you know how it goes.

Thanks again. x

I just had my first IVF retreival almost two weeks ago, so I know how you feel. The only thing I would add is to really take it easy these next two weeks. I tried to go back to work the day after the retreival because I felt better - big mistake. Pain hit me at the end of the day like a ton of bricks and stayed until two days after the transfer. My doctor said I should have just stayed off my feet after I told him I started feeling bad. It's easier said than done, but just try to relax, let others pamper you if possible. Good luck. I hope everything goes well for you.

Just thought I would do a short post to let you know I survived egg recovery!

Was not nearly as bad as I was expecting, think DH found it harder than me, didnt like seeing me in pain. Bless x :D

They recovered 10 eggs, 9 of which they could use.

Phoned this morning to let me know, by ICSI they fertilized 8. :) I am thinking that is a very good result.

Going in tomorrow for my transfer!

Lulu - That's a great % sucess rate. Well done - you must be thrilled. Hope ET went smoothly yesterday, and you are now getting plenty of rest.
