I just wanted to say thanks very much for your messages of support after I posted about my miscarriage. This site is great for feeling supported and the kind words from all of you have really helped - so thanks!

Michelle and Sarah - I am feeling better, and have tremendous support from DH, who has been so lovely he has made me cry! I hope both of you are OK. I have a question for you - how long have you been told to wait before trying again?

Take care

Tina

Feeling Better

Post by Michelle »

Hi Tina
I am so happy that you sound happier. I'm also feeling better about things and could not have got through this without dh....he has been wonderful.
I also did this attempt on the NHS and have one more go with them. I am with Guy's in London Bridge (they cover both private and nhs) and I can only sing their praises. They have done everything right with me and I just got unlucky (first attempt at IVF as well). I know that their fees are less than the other clinics you mentioned as they are a non-profit organisation, but I can only tell you how sensitive, kind and brilliant they have been.
For some reason they wanted to wait to see if I miscarry naturally but I went there today for a chat and as I have not and they have booked me in for a D&C on Tuesday (when I would have been 10 weeks). I must say I wish that I could have had it earlier, but I followed the advice they gave.
I asked exactly the same question as you today regarding when we can have another go. Firstly she said that as we have fallen pg there is no harm in trying naturally right away. She said they normally recommend 2 cycles before starting the treatment again - this is not only for your body to recover but your mental state. Anyway I'm with you and want to start asap.
Did you have a D&C? If so, did you feel any pain, discomfort? Did you bleed much afterwards? Anything else you think would be useful for me to know please tell!
With a bit of luck we may cycle together.
Sending you lots of love.
Michelle x

Hi Michelle

I have been told to wait for 3 cycles before starting again - but would like to start as soon as we can. We have moved to another Health Authority and they offer 2 cycles on the NHS - so we could have one more free go. But it means starting from scratch, and so will probably take longer. Our other option is to stay where we are in London (Hammersmith hospital) and pay ourselves. I think this is the more positive thing to do, but the costs are huge! And we now live on the SW copast - so getting there and back is a whole different story! Last time we lived in Hammersmith.

I had an ERPC (Evacuation) on the 2nd Jan - for which I was knocked out and felt nothing. I only had a really small amount of bleeding afterwards and no pain. However, now I have a full blown AF- which I can't understand as I thought they had taken everything out. I also, and this is really horrible, have leaking boobs - I thought I would tell you as I was totally unprepared for this and it has been very upsetting.

I hope everything goes well for your D&C and I am pleased you are feeling more positive. I just want to try again and hope beyond hope that next time will be our time.

Maybe we will be cycle buddies?! I know next time if I get a positive result, DH and I will not be making plans until a lot later!
I wish you all the luck in the world for the next few weeks.

Take care

Tina

Hello Tina & Michelle

I am having ERPC as well (on Tuesday, same day as Michelle) and also under general so hope mine goes smoothly too.

Like michelle, my clinic wanted me to wait a week to see if it would happen naturally but nothing.

I thought my clinic said after the op, you may bleed for a couple of weeks (nothing about leaking boobs though - leaking what Tina? how many week pg were you?).

Regarding trying again, I had FET last time, so no drugs cycle and would like to start again as soon as possible (will be FET again as luckily we have some frozen embies left). Haven't asked the question yet but I'm hoping they said after 1 natural cycle or before (but I doubt it will be before).

Hope your bleeding stops soon Tina, so you get on.

Love to you both

Sarah x

ps - my dh has been the best too and I love him to pieces

Hi Sarah and Michelle

I hope your ERPC goes OK on Tuesday. I had mine on the 2nd Jan and it was hard emotionally, especially as the nurses were not very good - they couldn't understand that I wasn't bleeding and kept going on about it! But once the procedure was over I felt much more positive - it really enabled me to move on - like both of you I was told to wait a week to see if it would come naturally, but it didn't. And once I'd found out that there was no heartbeat, I just wanted it out of me (hope that doesn't sound harsh).
Re: leaking boobs - this was a real shock and quite upsetting as no warning. I have leaked clear liquid and creamy/white stuff, which I can only presume is milk. Not good - I was only 9 weeks pregnant - and you would think your body wouldn't do this at such an early stage. Anyway, this happened about 4 days after the ERPC and is still happening but getting less.

Anyway, I hope you are both OK and looking forward to trying again. Lucky you Sarah for having some frozen. We had 8 eggs, but only 3 fertilised normally, and on the day of transfer the third was lagging behind so decided not to freeze. So it's the whole thing again.

Take care

Love Tina
