takeaway food in pregnancy

Post by Vickyp »

Hello all

Sorry about the topic! I am just so sick of being super healthy - has anyone had a takeaway or does anyone know if it's okay to have takeaway food? I don't know if you are supposed to eat spicy food or not -that would rule out curry, MSG in chinese - is it okay? and fried food generally?. I really really want a chinese!! Let me know your thoughts!! Sorry for being so shallow! Vicky

Hi,
As far as I know you can eat any takeaway you like (except of course fish etc) When I got my BFP we celebrated with a chinese takeaway, and we have a takeaway every weekend (either Indian Chinese or Italian) The only thing I would say is make sure its one you trust as the other worry is whether or not the food is cooked properly. Eating spicy food hasnt done me any harm and I Have eaten it in both pg's.
Enjoy you're meal and your pregnancy.

I think that as long as it's not raw fish or undercooked meat (un-pasturized cheese, I've been told, is also a good one to stay away from) it's really more about what you can personally tolerate. My first PG I couldn't eat Thai or Indian but now I want it all the time. Fried food won't necessarily hurt the baby it's just a matter of trying to get enough nutritious food as well.

Do people really eat deep fried cheese burgers in London? I saw one in a fish and chip shop once---yikes!

Vicky

Just wanted to say that I had the same dilemma - my Midwife told me that as long as the obvious foods are avoided and be aware that your tolerance for very spicey foods is slightly different, then there is no reason to eat what you want.

Hope you enjoy your takeaway

Have just found a useful chapter in 'What to expect when you're expecting' which gives advice on things to avoid / choose in different types of take aways / restaurants. Might be useful for people to be aware of.

Hi, just adding my 2 cents' worth. One major prob. with fast food is the salt content. The amount added is totally out of your control but is commonly heavily used to increase sales of drinks - pizza crust is a good example.

I totally agree that a little of what you fancy does you good, everything in moderation is a pretty good rule of thumb.

Cheryl, I really liked What to Expect....except their dietary advice! I thought their 'Pregnancy Daily Dozen' was WAY too strict and quite unrealistic for 40 weeks. OK I suppose as a guidline.

Enjoy your curries (and pregnancies!)
hugs
Debra.
