posted this in rambling message b4 - but incase it got lost!

Can anyone help - DH had PESA today - they found immotile sperm. Is this totally no good. HAs anyone had any success "waking it up" ??!!

THanks guys
Caz
whats the PESA?
urologist has put my dh on clomid to try and stir things up, let you know in a month what the results are.
also foresight diet seems to have good results, think Loonpants did this? or look at their website.
all the best
Fi
Caz
Can't pretend I know an awful loy about this but just thought I'd mention that when my DH's sperm count was a bit sluggish he decided to try Chinese medicine and reflexology. We are not sure which one helped most - probably the Chinese herbs but he now has super-swimmers.

Our Chinese doctor was very calm about the whole thing and claims that motility problems are purely a problem in the Western world because of our diets/stress etc and was convinced she could help, all I can say is that within 3 months , DH's result were those of champion swimmers.

If Chinese medicine can do that for slight motility problems then maybe it could at least get a few moving for you. Might be worth a try.

Other "western" vitamins he was reccommended by our clinic were Forceval and Enadh (think that's how you spell it)

Not sure if I've been much help but Good Luck
Terri
xxxxx
Thanks for this information Terri as my partner has low sperm count 16 million when it is supposed to be over 20, with low motility and high abnormal rate, maybe the chinese herbs could help us.

I had an HSG on friday which hurt like hell. My wombs tilted back and my cervix was difficult for them to get into plus there was a student learning so it was all dragged out. I have quite a high pain threshold but I cried and groaned but it was all worth it as my tubes are fine. There is no blockages attall so the consultant at our hospital was wrong to tell me that our only chance was IVF as there are other options open to us now, I just think that they were trying to get as much money out of us as possible.

So DH has promised to cut out alcohol and bad food as we really believe that we can do this now even though the result doesn't change the fact that we have been trying for over three years with no success.

I hope your feeling well Terri and its finally starting to sink in.

Caz, if you need to talk about Di on this website I am here for you as if there is no change for us within the next six months then we are going to go for DI too. My DH says he doesn't mind but when I mentioned going to a London clinic paying and having one attempt asap he went as white as a ghost so I am not sure that he is as happy about going for this as he claims to be. I can't help but think he has agreed to it to keep me happy as he blames himself for it all especially as my dye test was ok. Fingers crossed you DHs sperm count will improve.

Lots of Love nicola
Hello everyone,
I`ve been following the boards for a month or so and found you a great source of support. We`ve had 3 go`s at IUI, first one abandoned due to lack of any good sperm, 2 nd one didn`t work, 3 rd one abandonded for further tests on dh`s sperm and a possible cyst. I just wanted to say thank you Terri for the info about chinese herbs; I`ve booked an appointment with a chinese Dr for Sat so I now feel very encouraged. I think we don`t realise how stressed we actually are until we have a break ie christmas. I`m 39 and feel we`ve got to get a move on! Hopefully this will help - just got to stop him smoking and drinking now!
Good luck everyone and Happy New Year, Ally xx
Hi Nicola
Excellent news on the tube front, well done !! At least you now know you have other options.
LOL
Terri
xxxx

p.s feeling really sick all the time but not complaining. Don't think it will sink in until I'm actually holding a baby in my arms, I take NOTHING for granted these days.
THanks for all you really helpful replies on immotility and PESA (surgical sperm removal from testis which DH had yesterday). Chinese medicine a great idea.

So...........after having found no motile sperm in first check yesterday, today the clinic rang and said they had found a very few MATURE and MOTILE sperms. So theres a chance of ICSI. But its so few - its a VERY slim chance. There will probably be fewer sperm than eggs when we come to doing IVF.
They want to do another PESA ec time to get a few more if poss.

ODDLY, THey have also said that they dont want to freeze these ones as there are too few. This seems very odd to me...I mean wheres the downside in freezing them for when we need them for IVF? If they die, then we are no worse off but some might survive and we could use them.
Has anyone else had this?

we have to ring again tomorrow to see if more have woken up.
Has anyone else had sperm that were immotile on collection and gradually become motile "in the petri dish" so to speak?

Not sure whether to be excited yet - its better than finding none but theres so few its miracle stuff if it works.
I can see we're not going to get a definate yes or no for ages!

Caz

Think positive if there are a few good ones they'll find them and use them in ICSI which is better for poor wigglies.

I didn't do the foresight programme but there are a few on here that have tried it especially Tee who seems to have disappeared but she posted alot on the old board.

I gave DH zinc and folic acid for the last few months and it must have helped a bit to improve spermies as we are now PG.

Don't give up hope.

Best Wishes

Lisa(Loonpants)
THanks guys
Dh rang teh clinic today and apparently they have found a few more ok sperms which they are freezing. So I guess we'll be trying ICSI in a few months. Gulp.
Will def take all of you advice in teh meantime tho!

Caz
Caz
Sorry for the delay, I've been off but we have a couple of Chinese shops/doctors in our high-street so it was pretty easy and our reflexologist was at our local alternative therapy clinic. I'm in Sidcup, Kent if that's anywhere near you (probably a 1,000,000 to 1 against !!) if not then the web site "upmystreet.co.uk" might be able to help.
If you are anywhere near the Bluewater shopping centre in Kent then they have a Chinese herbalist in there as well.
Happy hunting
Terri
xxxxx
Whoever said Zinc and Folic Acid helpd their DH. - I second that! My sweetheart was told on his birthday in October that he had so many abnormals - and ICSI was the only chance. But ironically, that was a year after he was told that he had Fantastic Wigglies - indeed, the nurses giggled at his motility! So what were we to think? We had tried unsuccessfully for two years. I am OK, ovulating, clear tubes etc. But nothing. And now it was to be ICSI - but of course in the meantime, 'come back in three months time'. In that time he took Zinc, Selenium and Folic acid. Well, three months later, another test. And guess what - they said he now had NORMAL sperm. Crazy or what! We however in the meantime, have taken the plunge and gone private, while I have time on my side. This consultant suggested IVF because he said DH had IGA. antibodies (Greek to us) While I am on Buserelin, and off the booze - DH too has been off the booze for a good 6 weeks. Not that we are boozers anyway - but just a thought, if it helps anyone out there.xx
(PS. He doesn't smoke)
1st IVF -ve. 2nd IVF abandoned 3rd IVF +ve but m/c at 8 wks. 4th IVF 1 embie - not looking good.5th IVF Short Protocol - more eggs er.. 5 actually - but -ve AGAIN. What now? Me 39 DDH 48. Unexplained
Hi Nick,
My partner has extremely low count down to accident as a child so we will be having ICSI (just started sniffing !!).
However, on our appointment in December he said he wouldn't drink until after the treatment (he only has about 1 pint a fortnight) to make sure they were as good as possible. And we were told by the nurse that what he will give in his sample would have been produced 3 months before - what a thought.
So it's what he was doing 3 months ago that counts, luckily for us nothing !
Good luck.
Becky x
