I was very happy to find this forum - It helpt me not to get crazy from pain and dissapointment.
We were trying to get pregnant for 3 years before we found out that my husband's motility is very low 5-10 % at best. Unfortunately, few months after that a new problem with the low sperm count was added (he did not have that problem before). After consulting with the doctor we were sent to the reproductive center. We were told that our only hope would be IVF. I do not know why but we were given 70%(!!!!!) of sucess. Though the average rate everewhere is 25%. We went for it and 2 days ago my pregnency text was negative. Because of those 70% given I was not ready for the failure at all. During the egg retrievel 18 eggs were removed, 16 got fertilized (using the Ass. Hatching), 9 started to devide, 3 embryos were transfered in my uterus. The rest 6 did not make it so no freeze could be done. I cannot express my feelings and pain. I thought I would die! My embryos were already babies for me and it was like loosing them.
How do you guys find the strenghs and hope to try over and over again? I read at this forum that some of you tried 4-5 times? At this point all I feel is emptiness and pain.
Does anybody have the same problem with the husband's sperm? (I am 26 and there is nothing wrong with me at this point). When I asked the doctor about possible medication for my husband, supplements and diet he said that Once the motility goes down there is nothing that could be done. I would appriciate any advice or suggestion. Thanks. Sana
Your post was touching as we are going through that now. We are in the beginning stage though. My husband was diagnosed with low sperm count and motility last year by his urologist. He was put on some medication. The urologist tested him again and the count went up, but the motility decreased. The urogolist told us that we shouldn't have a problem conceiving with his numbers.
My gyno suggested that we go to a specialist and last week was our first appointment. They took another test and the results came back totally different. Total count 5mil/cc (15mil total), 2% morph, and motilty also was below the norm. She suggested that we do IVF/ICSI or go with a sperm donor. She basically told us that there's nothing to improve his sperms. They are ordering a gentics test to see if it's a male factor in his family. We have a week to decide whether or not to proceed with IVF/ICSI.
I am really sorry about your negative result. You need to ask them why did it failed given the high percentage of success. My doctor told us their clinic has a 50% success rate so it's like rolling the dice. Are you planning on trying again? I think you should. You never know, maybe 2 is your lucky number.....
Thank you so much for your reply!!! I made an appointment with doctor to discuss the procedure and we are going next week. I was told by the nurse though that usually the doctor would not give any answers because the IVF procedures is very new and in most cases the reasons for the failure are unknown.
At this point I do not know if I will try again. Probably I will later because having a baby is our biggest dream. But the pain after the -ve result was so bad! I thought I would not survive it. I guess we need some time to recover.
I wish you good luck and will pray for you. If there is even a little chance for you to become pregnant - gor for it. I read that a lot of women tried and were lucky with the first attempt. Thank you for support. Sana
Dear Sana
Please don't give up. You are only 26 years old - you have 10 years ahead of you of good chances and are in your prime! There is nothing wrong wiht you and the female body is designed for this very thing! The first attempt, i am told, is very much a case of 'trial and error' and i was constantly told not to expect too much 1st time round. I was told 'don't get your hopes up...my friend had twins in round 2...etc)
Next time, the doctors will know you so much better, and be far more equipped to gage how your body might respond to medication. Your body will be more geared up for the procedure, and will be far more responsive to what it is you require it to do. I know it is devastating, (i have just had my first ISCI -ve) - you will have good days and bad days, but the reward at the end will outweigh all the trauma you are going through now. No pain is unbearable or unending. Listen to the advice of these amazing girls on this site too, and buy your zita west book.

Thank you so much for your nice words. I am so sorry that you had -ve. I wish you good luck with your future attempts. You are so right. I already learned from this side that many women repeat IVF many times until they get pregnant in the end. It is not right to give up after only 1 try. THank you once again and I will pray for your sucess!
